His eyes slowly began to open back up and as he does he couldn't help but to feel a bit strange. His numb, cold body began to feel an incredible pain overcome him. His eyes pushed open just as this thrust of pain shot in. And before he knew it, he found himself in a bed inside a small room. Finally those minutes that spanned an eternity were over.

Raphael's body was consumed by agony, a trembling amount of it. His body was covered by blankets and his forehead had a wet rag on it. His upper body was bare and almost entirely covered in bloody bandages. He tried moving his body with all of his might but that only made it much worse. He grunted and growled, trying with everything in him to get up. But all was to no avail.

He tried picking up his head but with little result. His head just fell back down onto cotton pillow behind him. He laid there panting with heavy, shallow breaths. His eyes tightly closed shut and a firm grimace gripped his face. As he adjusted to the pain, he could finally regain a sense of himself. His eyes opened back up and now he scrolled his eyes across the room.

Beside his bed was an oak table that looked like it had some fresh water sitting at the top of it. He noticed his sword was on the other side of the room, beside a table that was left of the door into the room. On top of the table was his undershirt and his coat both neatly folded. He was on the bottom right corner of the room. The walls of the room were made of gray stone brinks while the floor was made of hardwood.

There was a fairly large window on the western wall. He noticed that it looked fairly bright outside. On both sides of the window were purple banners that which almost touched the floor. In the center of the banner was the front view of a face of a dragon. Just as Raphael's eyes looked at that very image, his heart sank into his stomach. " The... Resistance...!? " the silver-haired young man fearfully gasped to himself.

With this revelation at hand, he tried bolting out of bed in a frenzy. The wet rag on his forehead fell off and landed on the bed. Of course his efforts were immediately thwarted by the incredible pain that devoured his entire body. But he at least got himself sitting up. His utterly exhausted body just sat there, heavily panting as his pain threshold was a bit passed its limit.

He groaned as his face was clenched by the intense agony. But just then, the door into the room had began to open. Slowly, it came into the room. Raphael instantly paused of any and all motion, he felt his heart continue to sink as if it were a rock in a pool of quicksand. Behind the surface of the wooden door was that jet-black haired woman from before.

The hood she was originally wearing when the two met was down, revealing the details of her head. She had long, black hair which was kept in a braided ponytail. Her eyes were a pale blue and her skin was mostly pale but it did have a tan to it. She wore a teal blue leather coat and a black shirt underneath. She also wore black long pants and leather boots.

Strapped to her back was a quiver full of arrows, an impressive looking blue bow made of a very flexible looking wood, and a sword hidden inside a leather sheath. As she came into the room, a smile was worn on her face as she realized that Raphael was finally awake. Her eyes were closed so she couldn't see that the young human was trying to get out of his bed.

"I see you're finally—" she happily spoke but her sentence stopped just as she opened her eyes. She saw that Raphael was trying to get out of bed and her smile goes down to an incredibly concerned look. She immediately rushed over to him. "—You mustn't get up!"

She knelt down beside his bed and placed her glove-bitten hands onto his shoulders with the utmost care. "You've been teetering between life and death for ten days now." the archer stated. "And it's absolutely amazing that you're still alive. But you simply cannot push yourself."

Raphael realized just exactly how the woman was. Flashes of their encounter upon that sad, gray day filled his mind with wonder. "You're that woman..." he softly spoke.

She smiled just as he spoke. "Yes, my name is Elena Ortrun," she introduced herself, bowing her head. She raised her head back up, looking at Raphael's relaxed face. She then let her hands go from his shoulders. "And you're Raphael Béla of the Ruler's Counsel, right?"

Raphael very sluggishly shook his head up and down, swinging his left hand onto his stomach. His eyes kept themselves locked onto the archer, this Elena. A very strange calm took hold of Raphael. It was odd, he was so unusually at ease despite being in the presence of his kingdom's enemy. "Can you tell exactly what happened?" he questioned.

"Well, according to Balor, the king was found dead in his room about ten days ago." Elena answered. "He said King Divus was assassinated... and that you were the one to do it."

Raphael had a look of disbelief on his face. He quickly shook his head side-to-side with all of his strength. "No, no, no!" the young man swiftly denied, his voice shaken and full of tension. "I would never even contemplate that for a single moment!"

"Don't worry," she quickly assured. "I don't believe for a moment that you had any part in it. Merely... that Balor blames it on you."

Raphael inhaled air into his lungs and exhaled all of his concern for just a split second. "Oh, thank Armadyl..." he mumbled to himself, relieved.

Elena's face sparked a curious look. ""Armadyl"?" she quoted. "Not too many people still cling to the old world's ways. Frankly, I thought nobody did."

He smiled. "Yeah, I know," Raphael responded, pulling his eyes down at his blankets. "But my family has worshiped Armadyl for centuries. His belief of law and order is just what this world needs."

"If only the world worked that way," she sighed, her voice spoke disappointment.

"It can with time," spoke a voice coming from the door. Raphael recognized the voice and so his face began to light up. Both Elena and Raphael turned their heads over to the door.

Once his eyes gazed upon the man beside the door, Raphael's face echoed with glee. Inside the room was the leader of the Lumbridge Resistance, Malik Poena. A great smile grew on Raphael's face. "Master Malik," he happily greeted. "It's you!"

Malik let out a light smirk. "Hello Raphael," he greeted back, his voice did have its own joy. "I am glad to see that you're awake." Beside Malik was the other hooded figure from that day ten days ago. He was a short, angry looking boy. But he seemed comfortable in the room despite a simmering anger boiling inside of him. He had his arms crossed and his face was masked by a stern as stone look. His eyes glared at Raphael.

Raphael's happy look turned into a look of grim. "Master Malik," he once again called "What has happened?"

Malik walked further into the room. "I was hoping you could answer that," he quickly replied. The young boy that was beside Malik stood back. He closed his eyes, his back leaned against the wall and his arms remained crossed.

"I was going back into the kingdom after I saw you three leaving a house." Raphael explained to the three. "And I rushed up the stairs, heading for the fifth floor. As I approached the door into the king's bedroom, I heard Prince Balor's voice as well as His Majesty's. Lord Balor wasn't too pleased by the sound of it."

Elena looked at Raphael with the desire to learn more. "Why?" she asked.

"Balor must have heard His Majesty ask," said Raphael.

"What exactly did he ask, Raphael?" questioned Malik.

"Lord Divus asked me to succeed him," he stated with hesitance.

This was sent as a surprise to Elena but Malik wasn't the least bit fazed. Malik shook his head. "I see," he acknowledged. "That would make sense."

"I heard a lot of violent commotion from within," Raphael went on. "And I heard Balor tell His Majesty that... he killed both Queen Leena and Prince Lelantos."

Elena seemed angered by what Raphael had stated. It was a sad anger, making her eyes wander away from Raphael's face. Her loose hands clenched firmly into tight fists. "I see," she softly mumbled, her voice brewed with anger. "Continue, please."

Raphael inhaled and exhaled air from his lungs. "He then invited me in," he explained. "He... said that he sent an assassin to kill my father! I... rushed inside after I heard that and confronted him. He then killed His Majesty, saying that they all stood in his way."

Elena's ire seemed to be fanned larger and larger by the word. Malik's left hand quickly clenched onto her right shoulder which made her jump a bit. His face became stern and angered. "Indeed," Malik replied. "That sounds like him."

Raphael closed his eyes. "I was so angry that I could barely control myself," he calmly continued. "We got into an altercation, battling one another. I lost... not even touching him. I was kicked out the window... and somehow, I'm still alive."

Malik latched his right index finger onto his chin while his right thumb became attached to the bottom of his chin. His left hand returns to his side. "I see," said Malik. "Quite an oddity, isn't it?"

Raphael shook his head. "Yeah,"

Raphael slowly shook his head all over the place. "Exactly where are we anyway?" he curiously asked.

"Governanti," answered Elena, her voice calm. Her smile returned.

"Oh, so you guys did infiltrate the capital." recognized Raphael.

Once he said that sentence, the boy by the door got angered. His eyes opened up and they shot daggers at Raphael. "Yeah," he said. "And how foolish of us to show you that."

Elena quickly turned her head over to the boy. "Uriel, please show respect," she impelled, turning her head back over to Raphael. "Forgive my brother's disregard. He hasn't exactly had the best history with the Imperial Kingdom."

Raphael once again sluggishly shook his head. "No, don't worry about it," he quickly dismissed.

Malik turned his body towards the window and began walking towards it. "Balor is claiming that you were an extremist," stated Malik. "As well as being under the possession of Lamia, demon queen of the Wasteland of the Abyss."

Raphael had a rather unfathomable look on his face. "Lamia?" he responded. "And everybody believes this claim?"

"Of course they do," said Elena. "They burned down your shack to prove that."

Raphael's eyes widened as his face goes into a look of shock. His head quickly flips to Elena. "They... burned down my father's shack?..." he uttered, disbelief growing in his face.

Malik's eyes gazed out into the sky. "Within five short days, Balor will be crowned the king of the entire Imperial Kingdom." he stated. "If he does, this world will truly be plunged into chaos. We cannot stand idly by and allow this to happen."

Raphael's eyes look at the back of Malik's cassock. "Yeah," he corresponded. "Prince Balor can't be allowed to get away with what he's done."

Malik turned around to face Raphael. "Right now, concerning yourself with recovering should your first priority, Raphael." Malik advised as he walked towards the door. "We will discuss this subject soon." Malik exited the room just as he finished his sentence.

Uriel still stood silently against the wall. He then got up off of the wall and clenched his left hand onto the doorknob of that very door. He exited the room with the door softly closing shut behind him. Elena's head was turned to Uriel as he left. She flipped her head back over to Raphael just as the door closed. "Well, I should probably let you rest." she said, then she smiled at the young man. "It's good to see that you're all right."

Raphael shook his head. "Yeah," the silver-haired young man concurred. "But ma'am—"

Elena put her left hand slightly up. "Please, call me Elena," she stated, telling him her preference.

"—Elena," he corrected himself. "I've got a question before you leave."

She raised her eyebrows. "Hmm?"

He scratched the left side of his forehead. "This might sound a tad odd," Raphael explained. "but have I met you somewhere else before? You look... familiar."

Elena quickly shook her head. "No, sorry," she then quickly denied. "We've never met any other time."

Raphael turned his face away from Elena. "I see," replied Raphael. "Uh, sorry about that! I know it was a weird question."

Elena parroted her actions and shook her head again. "Don't apologize," she declared. "You were only curious."

Raphael smiled as he turned his eyes back over to Elena. "Well," he said. "thanks for answering."

"Master Malik should return around the night to start healing." Elena stated. "It may not be a significant healing but it's gotten you this far."

Raphael shook his head. "Yeah," he once again agreed. "Well, thanks for everything."

Elena turned her back and began walking towards the door. "Don't mention it," she stated. "You just worry about yourself. See you later, Raphael. Rest well."

Raphael began to lay his body down onto the surface of the bed. "See you later, Elena." he replied. Elena placed her left hand on the doorknob and twisted it to the left. She pulled it open and it revealed a long, narrow hallway with three purple banners of a face of a dragon attached to the two gray stone brink walls.

Elena walked into the hallway and closed the door softly behind her. Raphael's face looked blankly up at the ceiling. There was a trail of thoughts that Raphael had to follow. He searched through all of the bushes of questions, his mind flashing with the events of ten days ago. That very event which changed everything but one particular memory could not stop flickering.

In his memory, his terrified eyes gaze upon the now lifeless king. His heart sank as he felt its every beat. His hands began to trembling as he couldn't believe his eyes. His mouth dropped like a rock and the absolute fear for the future ensued. His eyes filled with water and a tear streamed down his left eye.

And then all his ears could catch was the atrocious laughter of the killer himself. Raphael's eyes that carried sorrow turned to the monster responsible. He saw the infernal smile on the prince's face. " Because they got in my way. " he answered. This very sentence echoed all across Raphael's mind.

With each repeat, it just made Raphael angrier. He rested his head on his cotton pillow and tried to sleep. He knew that everything has changed with the murder of Divus Barn. But does he know exactly how greatly everything has changed? Hardly.

The night quickly consumed the darkness before anyone could realize it. It was around 8:00 pm and the silver light of the sky became the searchlight in the darkness. Inside the Lumbridge Resistance's base in the Imperial Capital of Governanti, Raphael laid silently in the darkness. His only light was the faint light of the moon.

The cold night bit at him like a dog, he was able to even see his warm breath hit the air. He could do nothing but think about how the events played out that day. He couldn't label a reason for it. So, he was truly stuck with just one question: why? Why did all of this have to happen? But just as the question became unbearable, the sound of knocks that came three times popped into the air.

Entering the room was Malik, his left hand clenched onto the doorknob. His right hand tightly held onto a three-branched brass candlestick with three white candles lit on each branch. Malik closed the door into the room behind him. "Good evening, Raphael," he greeted as he began walking over to Raphael's bedside.

Raphael's forehead is still covered by the wet rag. His head slowly turns over to Malik who approached him. "Good evening, Master Malik," he greeted back. Malik placed the candlestick on the table beside Raphael's bed. Malik knelt at Raphael's bedside and releases a leather pouch from his left hand. The pouch touched on the ground and then Malik opened the pouch up.

His pale skinned hand reached into the mouth of the pouch and he pulled out three Astral runes, three Law runes, and one Blood rune. He laid them out in front of them in a perfectly straight line. He then held his hands up just above the runes and he closed his eyes. Raphael watched on in curiosity.

The three runes that laid on the floor began to flash with multiple colors, including white and green. The runes' power zapped with electricity, those flashes of color then stopped with now just white. Suddenly, a long flow of white energy began to exit from the runes and enter Malik's hands. Within just a half of minute of absorbing the magic, the flow of energy ceased.

Malik's hands have absolute control of the magic as they shimmered with the color of white. ''There's only so much of magic I can perform in a day.'' said Malik. ''So, this will last for only a few minutes until tomorrow.''

Raphael slowly shook his head. ''All right,'' he acknowledged. Malik pressed his left hand on Raphael's chest and his right hand on the top of Raphael's right knee. Raphael began to feel the healing power course all throughout his body. Raphael felt no pain for just this moment. ''Master Malik...'' he quietly called.

Malik doesn't turn to the young man, keeping his focus on spreading the healing magic into Raphael's body. ''What is it?'' he replied to Raphael.

Raphael's mind buzzed with memories of the day of when he was told about father's fate all those years ago. It flashed of him as a young boy facing King Divus. ''Why did you leave?''

Malik paused for a moment and a minute of silence passed. Raphael waited patiently for his master's reply. ''I think you know the answer to that,'' his master responded.

''Well,'' he continued. ''If you knew then why didn't you take me with you?''

Malik closed his eyes. ''Simply because I do not believe that a twelve-year-old boy should be subjected to war.'' Malik answered.

''But that boy," Raphael said. "he's just a child, isn't he?"
