The blood-red flames ripped into and devoured all of the progress the humans made, hearing its crackling as it chewed upon the bones of their rebuilt homes. There was so much work that was done, so much brought and unwound. Raphael felt so saddened, so thoroughly sickened by this thought, the thought of losing everything he knew.

He quickly drew his blade, Falcon, as he felt a swing of all different kinds of emotions: sorrow, fury, terror. He knew he had the defend his people, protect his home. With his heart wandering aimless like a message in a bottle left to the sea, Raphael stepped forward. His feet mustn't stop, he mustn't stop...

He went on, one foot at a time. Until his steps grew into a rhythm, pounding swiftly with all of his thoughts. From a single step to a fast haste to running at his top speed, Raphael knew that he simply couldn't allow his world and the worlds of his people and comrades to just be taken, he'd never allow it. He went ahead, not knowing what exactly was to become of his future.

“There she was, just as he suspected. She was there, laid out on her knees in the heartland of the beautiful village of flowers.”
Aw, what a pretty sentence...

Well, just me as usual, surprise surprise. This was an interesting chapter; a change of plans, a letter, family issues, godly issues, homely issues... doesn’t look like this world is going anywhere.

Overall, I like the mood and atmosphere you portray for this phase of the story. It’s like a broken world, but hope finds a way to squeeze into the cracks. Anyways, hopefully this forum isn’t gonna stay comatose for too long.

Ah, hello, good to see you again! I hope everything is going well with you. Anyway, thank you very much for commenting and reading. I appreciate it, as always.

The next chapter should be a bit darker, just a bit. Hopefully, anyway! But thanks again for your time~

Most things are ok. I have not been getting much sleep, but since I wake up after a few hours, I'm trying to sleep a few hours in the day, and then a few hours the morning (about 3-5 AM).

Other than that, I did get a second job, a temporary one lasting this week. I should be at work now; in fact, should have been there since Tuesday, but after my first day on Monday, I decided to ditch it. Twelve hour shifts for twelve bucks an hour really doesn't cut it, especially when I make twenty-four an hour at the mill.

The people there were really nice, a scaffolding company that was a contractor for another mill. But the people had artificial kindness; face-to-face, they act nice, but behind your back, their mouths run like crazy, even about their own co-workers. They also sold drugs, even though their own rules state not to bring illegal narcotics to the workplace.

My supervisor had the intellect of a small child, and I spoke to him a few times about my insomnia, and that I would be unable to attend work, and I asked if I could phone him or something to make my absence official. He replied (not answering my question) that he expected me to be at work, then lifted his chin, looked happy, and began giggling to himself.

As a great worker, I walked away and then drove home. Of course, I returned the locks and respiratory mask handed to me, even though my supervisor told me I didn't have return them, you had to by rules. An adult who will openly lie, refuse to answer questions, and expects people to automatically bend to one's will, is never to be trusted. That's my psychology, I never argue with immature dishonest hypocrites.

But, all that aside, at least it gave me the time to read your latest chapter!

Oh, geez... That's quite the crowd you had there. O_o Those guys who think themselves so tall that they can reign powerful and unopposed, and those shady folks who come off friendly but are pretty conniving and distrustful. I know well of the type of people you're describing, I used to know a lot of people like that: all smiles to the front, all whispers to the back.

Anyhow, I've no experience in such matters (my lack of education doesn't seem to help anything! xD) But I think you made the right decision, way too much trouble, to be honest. Especially if you have better options on the table, I'd definitely say you made the right call.

"An adult who will openly lie, refuse to answer questions, and expects people to automatically bend to one's will, is never to be trusted."

I certainly can't disagree with you, such people are... well, simply are just bad news.

Anyway, I'm gonna head off and play Dark Souls, I'm suddenly in the mood to die a million times! :P Hmm... maybe I feel like getting back to writing? I'll probably hit both by the end of the day.

Take care, and try to get some sleep. Sleep deprivation is terrible! >_<

Well, good luck! In Dark Souls 1, on Steam, it took me eighty-six hours to beat the game, for obvious reasons. Anyways, I kept forgetting about it, but wanted to share these YouTube accounts, that may help you work on medieval fighting, as I recalled you saying you were interested. Of course, it's all optional, not there to be taken literally, but just a bonus to help broaden the horizon of imagination.

This might be a bit lengthy... xD

Chapter 20: Enemy, Familiar Friend Part 1

The scorching red charred its way across the land, turning to cinders all of the Resistance's hopes and dreams. Towering plumes of smoke escaped this place, flowing freely upstairs and blacking out the stars from view. Death rode in like a storm, its fist sudden and quick to pound anything six feet directly in the ground.

The shadows of men even fled this burning capital, too scared to come face-to-face with the absolute blaze that consumed anything and anyone who fell into its snare. They were burned away, incinerated. Bodies cloaked the cobblestone path, blood channeled in between the stones like a river in between a canyon. But this river flooded far beyond its bank, overflowing on top.

The black steel of the Loyal Knights of the Royal Family came into a large collision with the human Resistance, only this time was much different than the fight at Falador. These humans were far more skilled, far better trained than the soldiers at Falador. They were composed, ready, and stood their ground against the godly forces of the Governanti army.

The mass strife and confusion consumed the streets of Lumbridge, the turmoil and utter anarchy that devoured the night. The complete mania of the battle, the beating of steel upon steel, the heat and intensity, it all came into play. Those unfortunate enough to not be able to defend themselves in this discord felt their life literally cut out from their bodies.

Limbs and bodies dropped, hollers of suffering were like the sounds of nature, so very commonly heard. This was their home they had to protect, their families, their everything, their very existence. Giving them a extra wind under their sails, the Lumbridge Resistance cut through the ranks just as much as the Loyal Knights cut through theirs.

And there did the young leader stood, out from the gates of his castle and into a scene straight from his worst thought. His ears heard the collision of steel upon sinew, the howling, terrified screams that besieged the atmosphere. Innocent people ran helter-skelter, scattering like a tree deprived of all of its leaves after one sudden intense gale.

Their utterly horrified expressions were ones that could scar a man's dreams for as long as he would live, their bodies passing by Raphael as he walked in the opposite direction. The glowing eyes then turned directly onto the dozens that ran passed Raphael, their piercing glances puncturing the backs of the villagers.

One person in particular pointed his left index finger towards them, this man was one all knew too well: Balor. "Go," he commanded his men, his face turning to a small group of them. "we mustn't let them escape."

A handful of knights of loyalty then bowed to their king, respectfully accepting the task put in front of them. "Yes, my king," they acknowledged, turning towards Raphael. Seeing him caused them to pause, not knowing how to proceed.

"Forget him," Balor told his Loyal Knights. "we will deal with that traitor."

Taking their king's words and knowing full-well that they were earnest, the knights do as suggested. They rush forward, appearing almost like a blur to the young leader. Raphael's face was morphed by surprise, being caught quite off-guard by their sudden and perhaps even unreal speed. Was this the power that they've been hiding? Have they really been going easy on us this whole time? Questions grew like a bountiful harvest, but its crops were unfamiliar and could not be named.

He then twisted his torso, turning his head to gaze at what was behind him. Blood sailed across the air, agonized wails blaring. The knights crammed their blades into the bodies of the innocents dashing away from them, their eyes appeared most joyous of this occasion. Raphael's feet were frozen, his whole body was stuck in place.

Even as the innocent people ran as fast as they could, they were cut down like cattle. Ruthlessly picked apart, as their blood and entrails had begun to litter the streets. Their screams and begs for mercy all went out in vain, laid hidden in secret under the sound of battle tearing up the very peace that they built their city upon.

Raphael broke down in a cold sweat, petrified by what was transpiring before him. He tried to yank his feet off of the ground, but they wouldn't go. He watched helplessly as the blades of the Loyal Knights passed through the flesh of the people he swore to protect, but protect was simply something he could not do.

Hundreds of people had fled, but so many of them now laid silent upon the ground, their faces smothered in their own blood. Now, less than a tenth, running and screaming for their lives, dashing away from their fellow friends whom were picked off. A woman carrying a young girl in her arms was one of the last people that they chased, she appeared frantic as her little girl sobbed and wept.

But a weapon would find that woman, carving a deep, gapping crevice in her back. In a painful groan, the woman fell forward, protecting the child from the fall in her arms. The little girl crawled from her mother's arms, turning to her with great concern. "Mommy!" the little girl shrieked. She saw her mother's intense facial expression, grabbing her arm and pulling it as hard as she could to get her up to her feet.

She pulled and pulled with all of her might, but her mother would not move. She looked at her child, saddened yet proud of this effort she was putting on. "Marie," the mother called her daughter. "Forget... about me, you need to go... now."

The little girl shook her head defiantly. "No," she swiftly denied her request. "I'm not leaving you behind!"

Her mother's hand then very slowly pulled up to the little girl's face, caressing her left cheek with her blood soaked hand. The little girl's tears were caught by her mother's warm, kind hand, but this moment left her to pause. "Listen... to me, sweetheart, okay?" the mother told her daughter. "There's... a safe place to the east. I need you to—..."

While her mother was talking to her, the little girl's view was suddenly overcome by shadow. A blade then quickly fell down upon the back of her mother's neck, severing the top of her spinal cord from her head. With fear completely in control, the little girl rattled her mother. "Mommy, mommy!" she hectically cried as her voice began to break.

The sword then pulled upwards, taking the little girl's attention. She slowly gazed up at the source of darkness, to where the sword came from. A knight in black steel armour, his glowing, blue eyes gazed down at her. Her mother's blood oozed off of the tip of his blade, dripping down like rain upon the cobblestone.

The urge to rush forth pulsating throughout Raphael, the grip on his blade tightened, and sweat rushed down with intensity. Every second that passed as his horrified eyes stared at that scene, his heart would pound faster. Finally breaking through the great freeze that took over him, Raphael's legs bolted towards the back of the Loyal Knight that found the little girl.
