"So, that's where you acquired the name," she realized, then was quickly hit with a question. "Wait, how is it that Balor found out about your relation? I'm sure father never told him..."

"Well, this is where you two share a lot in common,"

"What exactly is that supposed to mean?"

Telvern then pointed to his right ear. "You both have a particularly strong sense of hearing," he answered, then pulling his hand back down to his side. "Before you and I joined up with the Resistance, I took a trip to Governanti to find my sister. There, I attempted to sneak into the castle but was caught. I was brought before your father and we spoke about it. Balor must have heard it from there."

"So, why? What do you gain from serving him?"

He closed his eyes, shrugging his shoulders. "I get to live—" he replied, frankly.

"—You don't have to serve him in order to live," the archer angrily asserted, interrupting him.

"Oh, yeah... You're so great that you can just cut a guy off midway through his sentence..." Telvern snarked. "I get to live... or at least that's what it used to be. That changed, say, a year ago?"

"A year ago?" she quoted, confused. "What happened a year ago?"

"Oh, someone very... unique came walking in the door."

She didn't even need to take a moment to think, she knew exactly who it was that he was talking about. "Raphael?" the archer named, giving an answer. He confirmed her answer, nodding his head. She then immediately began walking down a trail, a trail that led her to more and more revelations.

She remembered everything, everything that had happened in the past year. Particularly the beginning, of the young silver-haired man's first few days within the Resistance. All stemming from that day, the day that he fell. She knew deep within her heart that it was odd, but never really gave it too much thought. After all, no human should be able to survive a fall from that height.

And then there was the time when Gallows broke Raphael's leg. It took just a week before he was back on his feet, "as if he didn't break his leg at all." Her own words came back to her, realizing exactly what Telvern was pointing out. Her pale blue eyes then turned to Telvern, who seemed like he knew that she was onto something without even looking at her.

"He has recovered alarmingly fast from injuries that should have kept him down for a while. And he has survived..." she said, her eyes widening and her voice lowering with each word she spoke. She stopped there, her eyes large and her breath paused. She encountered a very strange truth, perhaps the one that he was trying to point to.

"Let me finish that for you," he graciously volunteered. "He has recovered alarmingly fast from injuries that should have kept him down for a while. And he has survived injuries that should have killed him..." He then opened his eyes, his steely brown eyes giving her a hard look. "...just like you."

"Wh-what...!?" she gasped.

"Think about it, that day that he fell," the genius explained. "Did you ever wonder how he -- a mere human -- survived? Here's your answer: he survived that day "only because of a sheer miracle.""

Elena remembered exactly what Telvern was quoting from. Out in the field of flowers, when she and Raphael spoke. "I survived that day only because of a sheer miracle." the archer remembered herself say. The archer stood there, completely shocked right down to her core. "So, Raphael is a Solasúian?" she asked.

"Bingo," the genius answered.

She then quickly shook her head, denying what Telvern was telling her. "That doesn't make any sense!" she shouted back. "I remember his mother, she was only human! And his father, General Markus Béla, was only human as well!"

"True, all very true..." Telvern confirmed, his left index finger then suddenly popped upwards. " But this is where things get complicated." That situation between Elena and Telvern began to truly turn in a way none expected it. Indeed, Elena was unable to predict the series of events that would occur... In fact, no one would be able to.

A land away, back within the trap of sand and death. Raphael and Daevarro had entered a haven of sorts, a paradise free of discrimination and the death that awaited outside. Daevarro was sitting at a long table of rough wood. Around him, bookshelves and bookshelves jam-packed with enlightenment. Firmly in his hand, a dark-yellow book.

Its page revealed its age, they were old and some had seen better days. There were tears on its edges, and it felt as though it could disintegrate into dust with the slightest touch in the wrong way. The young man scrolled his hazel eyes across those words, all the unusual things that's filling his head. But then, he felt as though eyes were upon him.

Daevarro began to hear whispers, whispers from a strange language he didn't understand. Their voices were bone chilling, them chanting in a whisper all together at the same time. This prompted his eyes to locate its source. He then saw a group of people staring at him, their faces appeared somewhat adoring like a fan. Their two hands were planted flat against each other.

As soon as they noticed Daevarro's gaze turned to them, they immediately cut in the middle of their chanted whispering and bowed their heads. "Avae'vatu," they said as soon as they acknowledged Daevarro's glance. "Avae'vatu..."

Daevarro felt a little nervous, perhaps a little frightened by their very... odd activity. He tucked himself closed, inching himself away from them. "Hey," said that familiar voice, his footsteps well heard. Calvin, with Raphael just behind him, approached the group of robed people. He stood there, impatiently tapping his right foot against the ground as his hands were put to his hips. "What did I tell you?"

The robed people quickly reacted to Calvin's words, turning to him. With a simple gulp of saliva, they quickly bowed their heads. "Forgive us, Kéz," one of the robed people beseeched.

Calvin closed his eyes. "I'll be willing to do so if you just leave the kid alone,"

"As you desire," they were quick to acknowledge, complying with his orders. They then tapered off, all disbanding and heading off in their own ways.

Calvin sighed, letting go of his frustration. His pale blue eyes then turned to Daevarro, who was still more than a little freaked out by them. "Ya all right, shady?" he asked out of worry.

"Y-yes..." he replied, his voice shaky and uncertain.

Raphael then turned to Calvin, keeping his eyes on the dark-robed young man. "Exactly what were they going on about?" Raphael wondered, speaking his curiosity. "They certainly seemed..."

Daevarro's eyes strayed away. "They seemed like they were worshiping me," the young man believed in earnest, the nervousness in his voice still very present.

"That's 'cause they were," Calvin stated, crossing his arms.

Daevarro quickly retracted his eyes, placing them firmly upon the lazy assassin before him. The young man's eyes were widened, a drop of taut sweat rolling down his face. "Wh-why...?" he questioned, prompting Calvin's right hand to move. He closed his hand, but kept his index finger out. He pointed towards his neck, indicating something to Daevarro.

The young man was quick to realize exactly what it was that Calvin was trying to convey. His hand darted upwards, reaching for his pendant. With a nod of his head, Daevarro was able to confirm that indeed it was about the pendant. "My sister's pendant?"

"It ain't just some ordinary pendant," he stated. "That pendant used ta belong ta our drág Essa, Lamiaquil'a... or 'least, it's part of what used ta belong ta her. Ya family, the Cult of Lamia, referred ta it as the 'Master's Pendant', it's-a powerful object that still retains her presence even after the eighty-five years since her death. Hence why those worshipers were, well, worshipin' ya. Ya hold her Avae'vatu, or her presence , and it has made ya a preeeetty well received guy 'round 'ere."

"Wait," said Daevarro. "I don't understand... my family was a cult? For this... this Lamia?"

Calvin shook his head. "Yep," Calvin confirmed. "Yous were the first, ones we 'ere didn't know 'til much later on in the gods' rule. We had a respect for each other, joyous in the fact that we were fellow brothers and sisters under our mutual faith. We were both the same in our love and devotion ta our queen, but so very different in our ways of expressin' it. The Cult of Lamia was a bit... extreme, ta say the least."

"How?"

"Oh... y'know," the assassin carried on. "Killin' off people left and right, claimin' them ta be 'sacrifices' ta power up the pendant. Y'know, stuff like that..."

Daevarro's face then darkened, saddened by all this being draped upon him. "I don't understand why I was never told about this..." the young man mumbled, attempting to grasp a reason he cannot find.

Calvin shrugged his shoulders. "Beats me," the assassin returned. "Anyhow, you should be good ta get back ta readin' on. We won't bother ya anymore."

The lazy assassin then began to walk away, departing the dark-robed young man once more. Daevarro jumped out of his seat as his eyes fling quickly over to Calvin. "—W-wait!" the young man quickly shouted, extending his right hand out in front of him.

Calvin paused, turning around to face the young man once more. Daevarro appeared somewhat lamentful, his hand out in front of him slowly fell down. "...Is this the reason?" the young man spoke, his voice hung low but anger lurked just below the surface. "Is this the reason my family was killed by those... those monsters?!"

Calvin shrugged his shoulders once more. "Who can say?" he responded, then lowering his shoulders. "What I can say though is that I don't believe the gods would kill just 'cause someone's worshipin' Lamia. After all, we've had a bit of business with 'em over the past couple-a years and we're still wearin' our skin."

"I... I see," the young man acknowledged, slowly melting back into his seat. "W-well, thank you..." Calvin then began walking onward, heading towards the center of the room. Raphael gazed over at Daevarro, still standing where he was before Calvin began walking away. The young leader appeared concerned, seeing a hopeless boy face a huge opponent.

Daevarro appeared very lost, helplessly falling further and further down a bottomless pit of confusion. The path before him led nowhere, only in circles. Was this meant to be my fate? Am I only meant to be an outcast? Those and so many other questions stirred around in his brain, he meaninglessly chased around those voiceless phantoms.

Raphael painfully worried as he watched the boy stumble around for answers, answers that continued to completely and utterly elude him. The young leader turned away, walking behind Calvin to seek out more answers to his own questions. He could only hope that the dark robed young man could have just a bit of the same luck as he had.

Raphael would make haste, rushing to be at Calvin's side. The assassin stood beside the small stream of water that was the division between the two sides. Calvin stared down into the water, seeing his reflection as if he were staring into a mirror. His skilled ears heard the young leader approach him from the left, then he suddenly saw his reflection upon the glass as well.

Out of all of Raphael's reflection, Calvin stared upon Raphael's eyes. He couldn't look away from them, unable to help himself but to just continue to stare at what felt like a haunting memory looking back at him. Raphael seemed somewhat irritated, annoyed by Calvin's abandonment of the now even more confused Daevarro. "You're going to leave him like that?" the leader angrily questioned.

"As someone who believes in somethin' so precious as my queen, it's my duty ta have faith." wholeheartedly replied Calvin. "Trust me, he'll get there."

"If that's what you believe to be true,"

"It ain't in my belief that he'll get there, it's in my knowledge that he'll get there." the assassin corrected, he then sighed. "Anyhow, what exactly can I answer for ya? I mean, I'm sure ya didn't just come all this way for nothin'."

"You seem to actually know why I'm here," believed Raphael. "You were expecting us, weren't you?"

Calvin closed his eyes, letting out a light smirk. "What can I say?" replied the assassin. "I knew eventually ya'd come a-knockin'."

"So, did you know my mother?" he asked.

"Not exactly," Calvin confirmed with quickness. "I heard about her from me ma. She had a heart-a gold, as they say. Not a time she wasn't 'round people, givin' whatever they needed. And she was very devoted to our cause, she was also quite skilled in our ways."

"Is she... still here?"

Calvin shook his head, sending Raphael's heart downward. "Nah," he regretfully informed. "Last anyone heard from Astrid was... goodness, twenty-three years ago, I think?"

Raphael's eyes went low, saddened by this information. "I see..." he mumbled.

"What I can tell ya is this," he said, lifting Raphael's spirit. "She went off ta Governanti, that was where a mission of hers was held. We got paid by the Resistance to assassinate King Divus, so she and her father took the job. That's the last anyone's heard from both of 'em."

"Governanti, huh?" he repeated to himself. "Maybe she and her father got captured and made into slaves."

"Seems like a reasonable explanation,"

"I'm gonna make my way there as soon as I can," he confidently stated, then looked up at Calvin. He then respectfully bowed. "Thank you so much for your hospitality, Calvin."

Calvin turned to Raphael, raising his eyebrow. "I ain't someone you gotta bow ta," Calvin very swiftly notified. "I justa guy, not some highborn, spiffy hotshot."

"Well, still," said Raphael. "I appreciate all that you've done, not just for me."

"For who else? You mean shady over there?" he wondered. "Nah, don't worry 'bout 'im. Shady's got lotta problems, especially since he's been kept in the dark. As a fellow brother, it's sorta my obligation ta tell 'im since he ain't got no family left."

"You're wrong," the young leader, Raphael, informed the assassin. "We're his family."

Calvin shook his head, closed his eyes, and smiled. "Heh," he softly chuckled to himself. "He's just like his mother."

Suddenly, a very familiar feeling gripped him. It was one he hadn't felt in a very long time, causing him to go stiff. It was a stirred-mixture of all kinds of feelings: apprehension, sorrow, concern. It would send Raphael to race with thoughts, his body shaking. "...Anyway, I think best that we get back to Lumbridge,"

Calvin quickly turned to Raphael, surprised and a little disappointed by Raphael's sudden announcement. "Already? But ya just got 'ere!"

"Sorry," he apologized, trying his best to push aside those feelings of fear. "I'm just worried about home, that's all."

"As ya wish," replied Calvin, then turning to the dark-robed young man. "Hey, shady! Hope ya don't mind readin' on the go!"

Raphael raised his eyebrow. "You're letting him take your books?"

"Eh," said the assassin, completely carefree. "I'm sure the boss ain't gonna mind." Calvin smiled as he watched the young Daevarro stand up from his chair, safely clenching the book his eyes were upon. "Go on, take as many books as ya can." the assassin permitted, thus prompting the young man to do so.

Daevarro quickly scrolled his eyes across bookshelf after bookshelf, going on a quest to find the books he thought would best answer his questions. His hazel eyes scrolled from place to place, and occasionally his eager fingers would stick themselves onto one and pull it out. He took out three books, carrying four in total with him.

After plucking his books of choice, the young man then rushed over to Raphael and Calvin. Daevarro stood there, he faced the lazy assassin. He bowed his head, showing his appreciation and respect to Calvin. "Thank you for everything, sir," the dark-robed young man politely thanked.

Calvin sighed. "I just got done tellin'—oh, nevermind..." he said then ended, defeated. "It ain't somethin' you have ta thank me for, shady. We're family, regardless of blood, y'know?" It didn't matter what Calvin said, Daevarro still wanted to show his appreciation to that lazy assassin for all of the things that he had done.

Daevarro and Raphael had begun to walk away from him as they got all that they desired. As Raphael stepped forward, he felt himself get hooked back. He turned backwards, seeing an unusually serious looking visage upon the lazy assassin. "Before ya go," softly said Calvin, then shaking his head. "don't trust that egghead."

Raphael raised his eyebrow. ""Egghead"?"

"Y'know... Telvern!" he loudly whispered. "He was-a Desert Assassin, but was-a bit-a an outcast. Almost no one could trust 'im, not even a little."

"I intended to do something about him as soon as I got back to Lumbridge." stated the young leader. "Which is why we need to go so quickly. Who knows what he might do?"

"Then I advise ya git back real soon," Calvin warned. Raphael confidently shook his head as Calvin let go of his shoulder. After that, the two said their best-wished farewells to Calvin and the Desert Assassins. Regardless of the high hopes he came in here with but then the unexpected disappointment, Raphael was happy to have come here.

He carried new hope within his heart, a new banner to wave proudly. He walked tall and strong, bearing a grin upon his face. Still, Daevarro had much in the way of things to digest. He knew not what truly was he defined as 'family,' since he never truly knew his family at all. These two images of them now were battling in his head, neither side was winning. But through all that, he was happy. He knew more than he did coming in, and perhaps felt a little bit closer to those he cared about, and one person in particular.
