Ah, thank-you for the warm reply, I was almost getting worried myself.

But yeah, you're right, if you like it, then you are welcome to do it. I do think, however, that a flexible sheath, such as one made of silk, linen, leather, nylon (a modern example, eh?), or some other tough fabric, I believe could bend enough to draw the blade from the shoulders (but if the blade is longer than the arm it'd be difficult. Or just have a really short scabbard with an affixed length of fabric for the upper half?). A scabbard made of wood that is wide would make the blade bounce and click around, and during rainfall, rain would easily go into the scabbard and rust the blade (hence the rainstopper was invented).

Yes, better late than never is better than never. That goes for my sleep, too.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, that the footwork of combat is similar to the footwork of dancing; therefore, fighting can indeed be like a lethal form of dancing.

Chapter 13: The Eyes of a God

The base of the Governanti Resistance stood there in the night beside hollow houses barely standing. It was there, in the second floor of the house where Anabel stayed. Her room was a small space just barely enough to keep her single-sized bed, a desk, a drawer, and of course the door. The room was made of wood, both the walls and the floor.

It was almost completely black, only the sun called a candle pushed away the darkness that consumed all that stood in this area. Anabel sat in front of a desk of oak wood, a quill gripped firmly in her hand. To her right, a small bottle of ink. She dipped the tip of the feather into the bottle as she wrote down a few words on a golden-brown sheet of paper.

There was then a knock on her door, it was soft and almost unnoticeable. Her hand then paused, stopping within writing a word. She then turned towards the door, which was behind her. "Come in," she then told the person behind the door. It would then push open, revealing the dark-robed young man known as Daevarro.

She smiled, happy to see the young man once more. "Hello Daevarro," she greeted. "what do you need?"

"The gods have captured two people," he said, explaining his reason for coming. "a boy and a woman."

"A boy?" Anabel quoted. "Wait... what did this boy look like?"

Daevarro's eyes then shifted away, remembering the image of the boy he saw before him. "Uh, brown hair, slightly tan, and had strange markings on his left arm." he described in detail, recollecting the boy down to the tee.

"And this woman," Anabel continued. "did she have black hair and a blue coat?"

Daevarro's mind then shifted over to the memory of the woman. Indeed, Anabel's detail was right on the money. He then shook his head, confirming her hunch. Anabel then jolted out of her chair, walking in haste over to her drawer. She pulled open the top drawer, two daggers encased in black leather sheathes were revealed to her.

Anabel then turned to Daevarro, grabbing her daggers from her drawer and hiding them underneath her dark gray coat. "Get ready, Daevarro," she then told him. "we have to go to the castle."

"Why?" Daevarro proceeded to ask.

"Those people that you saw were members of the Lumbridge Resistance." the ex-assassin answered. "We'll have to go alone, it'll be a lot less suspicious that way." Daevarro shook his head, turning around. He then began to walk out of the room, he was ready to face off with those he may have to. As he walked down the hallway, his right hand reached up and clenched onto the pendant that hung from his neck.

The dust had just begun to waltz once more as the situation in the castle of the gods turned severe. The tall standing titan of the Elder Gods stood before all others, his blade damp with blood. It dripped from its tip to the floor below, staining it scarlet. His verdant eyes darted for the king of the kind his masters kept watch over.

The angst king never looked for a moment away from the lightless face of the person whom he loved with his whole heart. This entire world he built with the crown he wielded was all for not. And the thought crushed him like a thousand tons of heavy burdens. He was broken completely, standing under a cloud of hopelessness.

Even his general, Gallows, was not one he concerned himself with despite the scar-faced general's very apparent injury. Soter, the warrior who caused the injury to Gallows, began to walk forward. Still that strange glowing embers continued to fall upwards from the sight of his injures. Balor's head hung low, the tears still rolling down his face.

His blue irises couldn't stop looking at the face of his sister, Lucia, who was killed by his hand after a moment of madness. There's no way she could still be alive, the king realized. She after all did not at one point use her powers to defend herself. That could only mean she refused to use them for a reason. That thought that crossed the road of Balor's mind left him deeply wounded.

There was no more point to this charade, this winding path with no end in sight. Soter stood just two feet from the front of the king, his stern face met the soulless face of Balor. "Are you ready to accept the consequences of your actions?" the titan gave an impossible question to answer.

"Do whatever you will," returned Balor, surrendering himself. Acknowledging his response, Soter readied his blade to end the life of a king. But there was resistance to this action, which prompted a movement. The Loyal Knights had to fulfill their duty: to protect and serve those of royal descent. They came charging in towards Soter, weapons ready, willing, and able.

The first knight to arrive swung his blade at the back of Soter's neck, attempting to decapitate him. It worked, it seemed. The knight's blade went clean through, sending it veering to the far left. Soter's body collapsed like a long tower that had just lost its base. He dropped to his knees, that strange golden and white magical embers pouring out from the sight of the injury.

His head dissipated as suddenly as it was severed, fading away into the abyss of time. He stood there on his knees, no life was seen on him. He stopped breathing and his blade fell from his hand. The knight who launched the attack saw that the two leading, both Balor and Gallows, seemed to out of commission in their own right. He turned to the knights, pointing his left index finger at the general. "Get General Gallows to a medic," he commanded.

A few of the knights stood straight and tightened their left hands into fists, placing them to the right side of their chest as a salute. "Yes sir!" they replied. They began rushing over to the general as quickly as they could, tending to him. They picked him up, one throwing his last arm over their shoulders. They disappeared into the eastern side of the castle.

The soldier then turned to his king, concerned for his well being. "My lord," the knight said, walking over to him. The knight stood there in his black-as-night steel armour, his Great Helm somewhat different from the others. It and his armour wore decorations with symbols of a winged lion, and even metal wings on the sides of his helmet.

He reached his hands for his helmet, pulling it off to reveal his face. He stood there, six-feet in stature and built strong. His eyes just as intense, but they had a sense of kindness to them. He seemed somewhat older, around the age of forty-five in human years. So he wore wrinkles on his face, including crow's feet and laugh lines. His eyes were a steel blue, lightless as it appeared.

His face had a scar, one that went from the upper right of his face down to the left side of his nose. His hair was medium length, reaching just at the lower base of his neck. It was a dark gray and unkempt. He had facial hair similar to a goat patch, just a stripe of hair from the bottom of his lower lip down his chin.

"Sire," continued the knight to get through to his king. "please go rest. We'll—"

"You earnestly think I can go after what I've done?" Balor replied, his eyes shooting daggers at the knight. He shook his head, frustrated with the knight. "I do not deserve... this!" He spanned his arms out as he spoke his last word.

"Then you intend on ending yourself?"

"Indeed,"

"My lord, if I may," requested the knight.

"You may not," denied the king.

"Are you so sure that that is what Princess Lucia would want -- for you to die a coward's death?" he questioned the king seriously.

Balor's eyes stared sharply, digging into the knight's bare-skinned face. "Who do you think you are, soldier?" growled Balor, getting in the knight's face.

The knight stood as straight as a pole and placed his hand against the right side of his chest. "Orderer of the Loyal Knights of the Royal Family, Melanthus Sanna, sire." the knight named himself.

"Ah, so you're a person in charge," acknowledged Balor. "Very well, Orderer. Now what gives you the right to question me?"

"I lost my daughter eight years ago," Melanthus responded. "I understand what you're going through, my lord."

"Oh, do you now? How refreshing," he continued, stepping away from the knight. "I thank you for ordering Gallows to be taken to the medic in my stead, he is a very precious soldier to Governanti. For it, I'll give you a minor punishment for speaking out of turn."

Melanthus bowed, showing his respect to his king. "Thank you very much, Your Majesty," he humbly thanked.

Balor pointed to Uriel, who still somewhat struggled with the blow dealt to him by the very man looking over at him. "Kill the boy, Orderer," ordered the king.

Melanthus looked over and saw Uriel, the 'boy' as Balor called him. The knight seemed at a pause, hesitant to take up the job. "But Your Majesty," he said. "he's just a child."

"It's either you or—" angrily stated Balor. But his voice went into dead silence when he suddenly felt this apprehension consume him. A death-grip of tightness wrapped around his chest, he began to sweat bullets. The king quickly spun, facing what was behind him. He threw his blade, the Arbandor, up in a defensive position to guard whatever came after him.

There, a familiar blade came crashing down upon the adamas of his blade. A blade of worn out shine, a diamond in the rough perhaps. All the knights in attendance stood shocked, some in fright. Those terrified enough began to flee, scared for their lives. This was to the dislike of their fellow knights, who shouted at them to stay.

Uriel too was fazed, even Balor appeared a little taken aback. A headless man stood there as if he were alive, wielding the very blade that sliced the arm off Balor's general. The two blades grinded against each other, until Balor then jumped backwards just a few feet from the headless armoured man.

The headless Soter stood there, standing straight with his blade at his side. Melanthus readied his blade, he seemed almost scared. "What in the Hero King's name!?" he uttered.

Every other Loyal Knight basically had the same reaction, unable to grasp the headless man's ability to live. "King Balor Pallas Barn," Soter's voice spoke, it took a ethereal form. "By voice of the Elder Gods, you have been condemned to death. Stand down and accept your fate."

Think, what would she do? It's a question that rattled like a snake in his head. Balor took a minute and seriously thought about this. With his eyes turned to her, he knew exactly what she'd want him to do. His uncertainty came to a close, his eyes draw back to the flame of war before him. "No," returned the king. "...I must live. To realize this world that I envision. Even if my sister... won't see it."

"Very well," Soter acknowledged, standing ready for whatever Balor and his knights may throw his way. "May the Elder Gods take you gently." The king then darted forward, readying for the attack. Balor swung his blade downwards, aiming for Soter's torso. Soter pulled his blade up to meet Balor's blade, the two blades rang against each other.

Balor continued to swing his blade at Soter, whom would block with ease at each attack. Balor swung his blade downwards, aiming for the center of Soter's torso. Soter guarded, the collision of the blades rung out into the air. Soter then lunged his right foot forward, aiming for Balor's abdomen. The kick made contact, sending Balor staggering backwards.

Soter then began to swing his blade across Balor's torso, who was wide open. But then a blade pierced through Soter's right shoulder, the blade that severed his head. This action caused Soter to halt in his action, turning his attention onto the man in black steel. The magical embers oozed from the wound once Melanthus pulled his blade out.

Soter then turned towards the Loyal Knights that began to charge forward, readying themselves to protect their king. The knights who were brave enough to tackle a seemingly immortal beast pressed forward, armed to the teeth with sword and axe. Soter lifted his right hand out in front of him, standing before a tidal wave of soldiers clad in steel.

His hand then began to shake, lines of electricity seemed to pop out at random. The atmosphere seemed to darken, but it flickered with a bright flash. The source of this light was Soter's hand, a ball of electricity appeared vividly in front of his palm. Suddenly then, a bolt of lightning whipped out from that ball and towards the incoming traffic.

It was a loud bang as it sent off, almost deafening. What was left was a rather loud ringing in the ears of all those in the room. The crackling sound of the thunder clap boomed all throughout this throne room, and the explosion once it hit blew a hurricane wind across the area. Through the smoke left after the blast, just a few Loyal Knights continued their advance. Behind them, charred corpses of melted armour and flesh.

Their bodies twitched as the energy from the blast still coursed through them. Smoke still steamed off of them, they were too hot to even get near. Soter placed his hand down as he waited for their arrival. Once they came, they began their attack. One slashed his blade diagonally, from his upper right to his lower left.

Soter pulled his arms up and stepped back just a few inches. The sword sailed passed Soter and he saw his opening. He swung his blade across the knight's left arm, his sword arm. Soter's blade swung deeply into the knight's arm and severed it completely. The knight screamed out in pain, dropping down to his knees and falling down to his right side.

Soter was going to finish the knight's life, but another came after him. The knight swung his blade downwards, which Soter attempted to block. The two blades collided, sounding off in a furious clash. Soter quickly pushed the blade off of his blade and stepped forward. He then smacked the knight in the center of his face with the pommel of his blade as hard as he could.

The blow stunned the knight with pain, he clenched onto his face as he had to find a remedy to this newfound agony. But then he felt a life-ending blow, a blade that had lunged itself into his torso. Soter then pulled his blade out of the knight, who began to fall. The headless titan then turned towards Balor as he watched on in shock.

Soter then began walking forward, towards the king who started all of this. The Loyal Knights who kept guard over Uriel then just threw him down on the ground as they charged forward towards Soter. One ran quick at him, the other slowly. They were prepared and ready for whatever would come. One knight managed a hit, but not without a sacrifice.

His axe that he swung dug deeply into Soter's left collarbone, but not without him taking a stab through the abdomen. Soter pushed the knight aside, pulling his blade out as he did. He then pulled the knight's axe from his collarbone. The magical flares flutter out from him as he made his aim. He threw the axe as hard as he could, its speed so quick that the knight had no time to react.

The axe hit the center of the knight's chest, sending him tumbling backwards. Once that had been dealt with, Soter once again sent his sights back on Balor, who seemed confident despite the situation. Balor stood beside Uriel, grabbing the back of the boy's collar. Soter quickly stopped in his tracks, treading carefully.

Balor smiled, confirming that he was indeed correct to suspect something between Soter and the boy. He raised the boy up, putting his head right next to his. He then pulled the Arbandor up to the boy's throat, holding him as his hostage. "You can decimate armies and destroy kingdoms, but every man has his weakness." said Balor, convincing himself and Soter of the hand he held.

"You would be wise to desist," Soter quickly advised.

"Oh no, no," the king continued. "If I'm going to die, I'm going to do something that I know will be just as equally devastating."

"Back down, Emperor Balor Pallas Barn," the titan returned. "the boy's life is far more valuable than yours."

Balor pulled the blade closer to the boy's throat, now it cut into his skin. "An opinion, I'm sure," he replied. "But this boy's death will be on your conscience!"
