Candlemancy!

(Second sitting so far, day two)
Glasses. I don’t wear glasses, though. Angry crowd, not caring about words (that’s me), and so on.

Page 107, post 5, fourth paragraph, begins with “An” instead of “A”. A while later, some talk about continuing the fight. There is some disagreements and loss of morale, too. There is also a planned attempt for infiltration.

Jesse Ventura: It’s a conspiracy!

“discarding it like a snake leaving behind its empty skin.”
Ah, another good simile.

Singing? After some things regarding truth-seeking, Soter returns! I was thinking about him past few chapters, wondering what he was doing. I’ll mumble that “shortsword” isn’t an actual term, but it may be acceptable as *short sword” but oh well, no big deal*

**, when Soter appeared, the music I’m listening to switched to “Pyramid God” by SepticFlesh. Coincidentally, it fits him. Soter speaks of continuing the resistance. They jump into a watery vortex. Is this a reference to Waterfall Quest? Chapter ends a bit later. Alrighty, this chapter had a lot of talking and somber environment. But, hopes are renewed!

Oh, and btw, I’m following you on Wattpad. I stumbled upon your upload by accident, too, found it while searching around. I wish you the best in your pursuits.

... Aaaaaand I can't think of anything creative to come after that. Well!

"Uh, why would you wear black in a hot desert? It is mentioned the garments are loose and light, though."

The Desert Assassins are a rather dogmatic band of folks, following the Neheztelian culture and ways of life as taught to them by Lamia. I'll explain why they wear black, but that's not until the short story I plan to write on and post at the end of FFG. But essentially, the color black is very important in Neheztelian culture, so much so that wearing it and succumbing to heat stroke would be totally worth it! Definitely, absolutely... Yep!

"An “Assassin’s Guild” actually was historic, and you may have already known this."

Oh yes, the good ol' Hashashin! Interesting story, but wow... that would be quite the thing to wake up to. XD

"I wonder if any of the older RS deities will make an appearance."

No, but there will be loose references to them. I've played a few times with them being involved, didn't like it, and just moved away... as far as I could. I don't know, just the idea of writing on a character that isn't mine and is already well-developed has always bothered me, y'know? Bio characters are one thing, but those types are much different. Like a certain expectation, either you write well on them or you don't and it makes everything come out horribly. I used to be quite big on fan fiction, not so much now.

"Page 107, post 5, fourth paragraph, begins with “An” instead of "A"."

Thank you for that! I had planned to do my routine "look back and re-proofread," (it's quite successful to go back and do that, at least for me) but I've found myself rather preoccupied with drawing.

"Singing?"

You make it sound like you didn't seem to get that there was singing, which would be bad. XD Yes, singing! It was the first time I ever wrote something of that nature, so if it didn't quite click, please forgive my lack of experience in that department!

"Soter returns! I was thinking about him past few chapters, wondering what he was doing."

Waiting for the Elder Gods to put him back together like a jigsaw puzzle, probably.

Elder God 1: Hey, can anyone find me his leg?
Elder God 2: Oh, it's right here. *causally passes over his leg*
Elder God 1: Ah, thank you!

No, he was definitely back at Solasúila, having his life and body restored, then waiting for the best opportunity to pop in. That opportunity just happens to be in an area where a lot of people hate him... Poor guy. Tsk, tsk...

"I'll mumble that "shortsword" isn't an actual term, but it may be acceptable as "short sword"..."

Now that you've mentioned it and I'm actually taking the time to look at it that way, yeah, "short sword" does seem to make a lot more sense as opposed to "shortsword." I always just assumed they're together, for some reason. Don't ask why, just kinda did. Ah well, no big deal, right? I'm used to writing it together, so it'll probably stay that way.

"They jump into a watery vortex. Is this a reference to Waterfall Quest?"

No, not at all.

Oh, Wattpad. What a strange place, that one. It's absolutely nothing I'm taking seriously, just there to be there at the moment. Though I should probably update a few things here and there, make myself a little bit more presentable. Uh, thank you for following me in any case.

Anyway, as always, I thank you once more for reading. I appreciate it!

Oh ok, black is an important color for the Neheztelian.

Waking up with a death threat on your chest would be pretty creepy. XD

Ah, I often had that same feeling regarding other characters by other people. I also never liked using in-game characters, but I have once in a while, such as named Elves in the Elven quest line, Khazard, Iorwerth and Tyras.

The singing caught me off-guard, totally unexpected!

Oh those Elder Gods, could Jas be amongst them?

Yesterday, one of my friends on Wattpad was unsure which to use, broadsword or broad sword. I mentioned that “broadsword” is a basket-hilted double-edged sabre, often used by the Scottish highlanders in many parts of the world, even exotic lands like Canada and India. She had an arming sword in mind, just with a broader blade than usual. With terms like longsword, great sword, knightly sword, and so on, it’s natural that people would assume “shortsword” as the opposite of “longsword”. It gets even better in the nineteenth century, when “longsword” was sometimes used to refer to rapiers with longer-than-usual blades (up to forty-eight inches), and “claymore” referencing broadswords!

Oh, in Waterfall Quest, your character jumps into a whirlpool. I thought it may have been a loose, minor reference.

Wattpad is full of anime and Frozen-related fan*ic. Very unoriginal place, it’s not easy to find people with a shred of intent for original work. Weird people there, too, I once saw the headline of a story about Pokémon in (and I’m not kidding) adult content-related "positions". I have a few more oddities but I won’t bother.

Anyways! See you next time.

I never did understand that one, jumping into an infinite torrent of aquatic doom. The lore justification is sketchy to say the least: Otto Godblessed, residential barbarian who lives beside the whirlpool, tells you that there's totally a secret cave down there and that if you jump in, ancient spirits will guide you to a watery grave the hidden cavern. You have no way of verifying what Otto says, there's no fact-checking as to if this cavern even exists, the player just says "Okay!" and flings themselves into the unknown. What if Otto had been lying?! What if the player can't swim? Did it never occur to the player to bring a floatation device in case Otto turned out to be a crazed lunatic? These difficult questions keep me up at night.

Also, bump.

Chapter 24: Between the Truths and the Lies

"Wake up," a very familiar, kind voice beckoned for Raphael's mind. "wake up..."

His consciousness drawn to that voice as though it were a magnet, its almost unlimited strength pulling him into it even if he struggled with all of his might. But really, did he? He felt as the wall that blocked him slowly chipped away, light seeping through the small openings. The specks of light slowly grew up to be something, Raphael's eyes able to make out what looked like a sun.

"Wake up," that voice continued to call for Raphael's mind. "wake up..."

The wall finally began to cave in, a reality found behind it. His splintered consciousness together once more, a small fissure of shine becoming a large image. His eyes opened up, staring at a ceiling made of adamas, one he had seen many times before. He felt the burden and weight of his body, his world, laid gently upon a soft cloud comparable to one labelled with the number nine.

Raphael shuffled his vision off to his right, seeing a room that held so much history in his heart. Yes, he found himself in the king's room in Governanti, and he was laying upon the bed of the man of which the room was named after. Windows that bore the winged lion poured light into the room, a warm, gorgeous light that looked as though it were on fire, dazzling with a multiplex of different shades of orange.

But the room wasn't what really took Raphael's gaze, but the one who resided within it. He stood there, his tall stature just at the bedside, his warm breath pushing out into the space above the young man. A crown symbolizing power upon his head, his hair long and jet-black, his jaw and chin draped with facial hair. His hands were fastened together behind his back, his body clothed in a seamless, ankle-length, elegant, majorelle blue robe and a matching blue cape with fur.

It was... Divus.

Raphael's gaze fixated upon that man's face, that man whom he now knew as his father. It had been a year, a very long year since last Raphael recalled looking up upon that face. It was a year that felt like a horrible night terror, a year spent in absolute damnation. Such cruel, terrible pains that drenched him, ugly scars that he bore like those once bloodied clothes he wore.

But all such agony that locked upon him, that destroyed him, that kept him down disappeared. They were given absolution under Divus' warmhearted, caring indigo-purple eyes. A tender smile held the king's cheeks up to his eyes, his eyes upon the silver-haired young man. "Good evening," he greeted the dazed young man.

Raphael quickly bolted out of his skin the moment he saw him, hectically rising from the bed. "...Lord Divus?" Raphael muttered under his breath, his shrunken irises looking upon the king. How? It made no sense at all, Raphael knew this to be true valleys deep inside his heart. Frantic, the young man shook his head swiftly. He tried most desperately to make sense of this, to figure out what was going on. "This doesn't make any sense... How are you here!? Where am I?"

"Ease yourself, child," the king advised Raphael as an attempt to offer peace, comforting him with a hand of assurance upon his shoulder.

Raphael then looked at Divus, his breath stolen by both his exhaustion and his shock. "I just..." he tried to voice, but his voice faltered due to his lack of strength, utterly taxed by it all. He couldn't resist, couldn't fight off his sorrow and overwhelming glee. The young man bounced off of the cotton earth, wrapping his arms around the man he knew as his king and as his father.

Raphael's face tightened, his eyes closed shut firmly to hold back his tears. Holding his father finally, embracing him as he felt the cure and sting of his elation. Divus was surprised at the appearance of Raphael, looking down at the young man who seemed completely overwhelmed. Regardless, it's absolutely not like Divus wasn't up to the task of providing solace.

Though hesitant at first, it wouldn't have been the first time the king had to do something like this for Raphael, a person he had known for the entirety of his young life. Yes, Divus has been quite the pillar of support for Raphael, especially after the death of Markus. Nevertheless, Divus took Raphael in his arms, holding him closely and tightly. "I know..." Divus quietly replied, kindred in Raphael's pain, he cradled the silver-haired young man with affection.

This place was fraught with so much emotion, flooded with memories of vastly different shades. Everything felt so real, everything Raphael saw, felt, and heard... It couldn't possibly be reality, could it? No, Raphael concluded, it was impossible. After all, the man his arms embraced was no longer among the living, there's no possible way he could actually be standing here before him.

It must be a dream, yes, that's the only way it made sense. This man who was worth infinitely more the world's gold to the young man was dead, there's absolutely no coming back from that. He can't be here with him, this must be a trick his mind was playing on him. An illusion which forced him into the submission of sorrow, this man who he apparently bore a heavy resemblance to.

But stranger yet, Raphael couldn't deny this being reality either. There was no way this was just a dream, no way this could be a figment of his imagination. Too real did this world look, too lively did Raphael feel Divus' warm, beating heart bounce, too tender and kind did his caress feel. He truly felt like he lived in this world, and truly believed that Divus could be alive.

But above the fight between fact and fiction, there was the absolute truth, the bottom line: Raphael didn't want to leave this place. He wanted to capture this moment in freeze frame, be struck down and laid here for his final moments, have a place there eternally like a portrait on a wall. This man for whom he missed so profoundly, so unspeakably, this man who had always there for him like the oxygen that fell into his lungs.

...If there was just some way -- any way -- to stay here, he'd give up the world, the reality he knew as his life.

"Lord Divus—" named Raphael, but then he disagreed with his choice of label, shaking his head. "—No... Father... I owe you an apology."

"For what?" asked Divus.

"I've failed you..."

Divus looked down at Raphael. "How?" he pressed out another question.

"...I've let you down," the young man admitted, softly and painfully did his voice speak. "I've let Master Malik down, I've let everyone down."

"What makes you so sure you've let us down?"

"I let you all die," Raphael angrily responded, directing his fury at himself. "You and Master Malik gave me so much, made me all that I am. And what do I do with it, with the hopes and dreams you both held for me? Nothing, not a thing, not a damn thing... Instead, I'm here, wallowing in self pity!"
