As soon as Ambrose had vanished, Micah knelt before the Altar of Life, the secret altar of Guthix. He and Ambrose were members of a secret group that were charged with awakening Guthix as soon as the balance between good and evil was tipped. And the site of their ritual would take place here, at this Altar. "Help me See into the vast future; allow me to tap the forces of your unimaginable powers."

Micah then climbed up onto the sacred altar itself, crossing his legs into a position to meditate. Then, he closed his eyes, gazing into the future.

The Seer sat alone in the dark cave, cut off from reality by his trance. Opening himself to the future, he blinded himself to the present.

Serena squirmed uncomfortably in her chair. She had been agonizing over her conversation with her father since he had left. “I wonder when he will return,” she said out loud to the empty room. Serena needed to talk to him; the sheer weight of all these events was crushing her. She couldn’t help but feel that her choices now would have incredibly far-reaching effects.

The girl rose to her feet so quickly she seemed to jump out of the chair. “I must go see him,” she said, and then she turned toward the doorway to the basement. Her father was the only person with the wisdom to help her now. Serena opened the door, and climbed down the narrow staircase down to the cellar.

“Father?” she called as she reached the base of the stairs. She scanned the room, but her father was nowhere to be found. “Where could he have gone?”

Serena drifted into the center of the underground study, looking around for any sign of him. She wandered over to the desk where her father normally recorded and analyzed his visions, but there was no note of explanation for his absence there. “He must have teleported out of here,” Serena thought, “but why?”

Then, as she turned back away from the desk, something caught her eye. She could see a sliver of green light coming from the wall. She walked toward the wall, and, sure enough, she saw that a large slab of it was just a bit loose, revealing a light behind. Nervously, she moved her trembling hand into the space and gripped the edge of the wall. Serena pulled, and suddenly she realized that the wall was set on a hinge, for it swung open easily for her. This revealed a small room, about the size of a closet, but there was nothing but green light filling it from every angle.

“What is this?” she asked, raising her hand and, after a momentary pause, thrusting it into the closet. As soon as her hand entered the green light, it vanished from sight. Serena shrieked and pulled back, her hand rematerializing as she brought it back into the normal light. Her breathing was heavy, and she calmed down only slowly after she realized that her hand was still intact.

“I felt coolness on my hand,” she thought out loud. “It was like my hand was somewhere else entirely… This must be some kind of teleporter! But where does it lead?”

She looked deeply into the green chamber, but it did not reveal its secrets to her. “This must be where Father is,” she said. “There’s only one way to find out.” Serena trembled as she stood in front of the closet, ready to dive in but fearful of the outcome. She took one tentative step and walked into the light, vanishing from her home entirely.

The next thing Serena knew, she was standing in a huge cavern. She had emerged from a small niche in the cave wall, but now she looked forward into the bright cavern, one with a surprising amount of green life growing along the floor and walls. “Where am I?” she asked.

Then, she looked down into the center of the cavern, where there stood an Altar. And, sitting on top of it, a man she recognized. “Father!” she called out dashing toward him. Then, she stopped. She had entered the cavern, and at first her surprise had prevented her from noticing the dense aura she felt. Now, however, it hit her with all its fury. The magical aura that emanated from the altar was incredibly powerful, and it blanketed the cavern like an intense fog, so heavy it pressed on her lungs. This was the aura of Guthix, more powerful than she had ever felt it before.

Serena backed away from the altar, feeling pushed away by the massive power. She hit the cold stone wall of the cavern, as she had missed the small niche she had appeared in before. She looked forward at her father, calmly meditating on altar, thought about the hidden doorway in the basement that brought her here, and realized that she should not have seen this.

Her father was not looking, though, distracted by his attempt to see the future. Serena quickly jumped back into the niche, praying that it would teleport her away without an incantation. It did, for green light enveloped her as soon as she entered, and in an instant, she was looking at her father's desk in the basement. Serena hastily closed the wall behind her and took off upstairs, not stopping until she was safely in the sitting room. Serena plopped down into the same chair where she had been before, breathing heavily from the experience. She leaned back, vowing that she would not tell her father what she had learned. "But I wonder what that place was," she muttered to herself, as she looked up to the ceiling. She was still as confused as she had been all day.

"Kraethi!" called the small boy, running down the gray street. "Where are you, brother?"

The boy slowed, looking around into the dark alleys off the main road. At eight years old, he was a bit small to wander the streets alone, but he was not a normal boy. This boy was a member of a powerful family, and one that none in Xothara would dare to cross.

"Brother!" called the boy, looking around the crowded street. The people in the market turned to look at this boy.

Xothara was a bustling city in a horrible time for Zamorakan society. It was risen to prominence from the ashes of many other cities, all leveled by the great silver dragon. Now, Xothara stood, trying to become the first to repel the attacker. The center of the city held a treasure that all would die to protect from the dragon. In the central temple of the city, guarded by a powerful barrier and an elite corps of mages, lay the bones of the late Lord Agaben, who was believed by many to be, even in death, the hope for a revival of Zamorak's power.

"Brother!" the boy yelled one more time.

"Karzith!" barked a voice from nearby. The young boy turned to see his mother, a short, aged woman in scarlet robes with gold trim, jogging his way.

"Mother," Karzit* said respectfully, bowing his head.

"You must be quiet!" she continued, a stern look on her face. "You must not draw attention to yourself! Father's position demands that you remain silent and unseen."

"But Mother," Karzit* replied. "I just wanted to play with Kraethi!"

His mother shook his head, so Karzit* sighed and followed her. His mother Anza was now a powerful presence in Xothara, ever since his father Threzi had attained control of the city. Now, she maintained that the family separate from the people, lest they inadvertently weaken Threzi's position.

"Listen to her," came another voice. Karzit* looked up to see his brother standing nearby, having emerged from a nearby alleyway. His brother Kraethi was tall, with thin black hair matted around his head. His eyes were a rich brown, and he wore a set of steel armor plates painted scarlet. As Karzit* lowered his gaze, Kraethi knelt beside him, whispering, "I'll play with you tomorrow, my brother," where Anza could not hear. Karzit* smiled, and he followed the two of them without a fight as they returned to their home.

Then, suddenly, the dream changed.

Karzit* stood alone, surrounded by darkness. The shadows nearby twisted and rushed together, and Zamorak stood there. “Well, General Karzith?” he asked. “I am growing impatient.”

“Allow me just a little longer,” Karzit* replied. “I am close, I can feel it.”

“My plan cannot succeed if you do not find it.”

“I am aware of that. I met some people, and I have a good feeling about them. Like fate brought me here for some reason.”

Zamorak turned away, looking pensive. “I trust that you know what you’re doing. If fate leads you straight to the Altar, then I suppose my plan has the backing of time itself. Continue as you were, I believe that you will succeed. You are not Kraethi, after all.”

Karzit* was silent, and Zamorak looked him over with a small grin. It was obvious that Zamorak was looking to see how Karzit* would react. “You’re right,” Karzit* replied with a dry mouth. “I am not him.”

Then, Karzit* sat up in his bed, the darkness giving way to the light of the real world. Sweat was pouring from him as he emerged from the dream, and he wasn’t even sure which part had affected him worst. He lay back on the bed, staring at the ceiling. His thoughts consumed him as he lay still and waited, unaware that destiny was leading him right to his answer.

Very interesting. I like the way that the seers think aloud. Talking aloud doesn't convey but thinking aloud seems to fit.

I also like the way that Zamorak can enter the minds of his vessels remotely to give them orders. It seems very rude and vulgar and fitting. It also shows how much Karzit* actually means to him.

I feel that Zamorak appearing in the dream could be more accurately described though. Such as his brother growing thinner and more sinister, his eyes dimming to the black depths of the abyss and his skin melting from his bones. And at last finally becoming Zamorak.

Afterwards Karzit* should feel it as a dark tumor at the back of his mind.

And Serena, when she meets the force of the Guthix altar must feel her midn being prodded and enveloped by it. She should have to pull away from it. It should try to stick to her like glue. If that'd be okay I would like more description of this.

Overall nice work dude. :)

Riekan, I've finally finished reading all of your stories, and if there's one thing that i've noticed throughout all of them, it's that you've gotten much better the longer you've been doing this, and about toby's comments, sure a thing or two could have some more description, but if it has too much description it could easily read more like a dictionary than anything else, effectively making it boring. Just keep writing like you always have and i'm sure we'll all enjoy it.
