“Oh, that. Good question.” Joran shrugged.

At this point Lukil had emerged from his tent, and on seeing the sun filter through the trees, he cursed a bit as he struggled to get the hood of his robe over his face. After he succeeded, he looked at Arial and said, “I overheard your conversation as I woke up. We’re in Bloodgrove Forest because chances are the plains around Ukrosha and any paths leading to it are most likely being watched by Ordinators. Face it, general, nobody can escape Skyvern Keep and not expect any news of such an event to stay quiet for long.”

“Then why didn't you just use the underground tunnels that led from there to the secret compartments in the sewers under the capital?” Arial asked.

“Funny thing about that,” Lukil said. “We were originally going to abort the part of the plan that involved escaping by Hippogriff since we had no means of fast travel once we got out of there, and we’d probably have been able to get to the tunnels and lose our pursuers if the strangest thing hadn’t happened…an arcane lightning bolt had struck the tower and caused it to collapse.”

Arial stared at Lukil in disbelief. “How’s that possible?”

He shrugged. Joran did too, and V only stood there, lost in some sort of contemplation of his own. Rajh was growling at something, but Arial didn't know what.

“What’s wrong, Rajh?” he asked

"Ve’re not alone,” was all Rajh said. Arial looked around, and saw nothing.

All of a sudden, the foliage around their campsite began to shake violently. Several Rakshasas appeared, armed with spears which were pointed directly at the group. Arial attempted to conjure his blades, but the blue energy sizzled as he failed. V, on the other hand, had a crossbow-like weapon in his hands, and took aim at the nearest tiger-man. Rajh and Joran both assumed defensive stances, and Lukil readied his mental energies.

The leader of the group, a small Rakshasa with brown fur and black stripes, stepped forward. “What are you doing here, outsiders?” it snarled.

Arial held up his hands in a gesture of peace. “We’re just passing through. We don’t mean to get in your way at all.”

The leader of the group turned to back to its comrades, and they spoke to each other in their guttural native tongue.

Rajh edged closer to Arial, and whispered, “Koshir…zese are Roaring Sun tribesmen. You have to get out of here quickly!”

At that, the leader suddenly turned to face Rajh, and asked as it pointed its spear at Arial, “Koshir? This is the dread Koshir?”

“Umm….I guess so,” Arial replied. Rajh growled in frustration and slapped the palm of his right hand against his head repeatedly.

“Fool! Do you 'ave any idea vat you’ve done?!”

“And a mountain Rakshasa as well, I see,” the leader of the group said with a sadistic smile on its face. Turning to its comrades, it barked out, “Seize them! Chief Grazz’t will want to know about this!”

Arial’s vision began to blur as he felt a slight pinch on his neck. Feeling the origin of the sensation revealed a dart sticking from his neck, and the last things he saw were Joran and the others swaying where they stood, save for V, who had seemed unaffected by the darts, but was being tackled to the ground by a group of the tiger-men.

[Moved first part of this post to the front page for easy reference.]

Had to edited part of chapter 13 to make more sense. Apparently when I was updating I skipped a post by accident since it was late at night when I did it, which definitely caused some confusion after going back and reading it again.

[^ So Azi, if that was what you were referring to about this being confusing at some parts, then I owe you an apology. That definitely wasn't intended (though it will be rectified in a later chapter). >.<]

Editing my post another time.

Well, if it's all good I might reread a bit and see what I missed too, so np its ok.

Also, what I do to prevent double-posting or missing paragraphs is to reread the first and last sentence of each post. It helps for me.

Chapter 15
<><>
Koreth came across a ruined campground late in the day. Even though there were two tents set up and evidence of a small fire that had burned out at one point, he found nothing to confirm that the original inhabitants were still around. However, he also noticed some tracks around the area…a lot of tracks, now that he thought about it.

Kneeling, the warlock saw that there were a few prints which had belonged to a humanoid-probably shades, he thought- and paw prints which looked like they belonged to some kind of animal.

While looking around, Koreth noticed that the tracks led deeper into the forest. He didn't know what compelled him to follow them that day, but he had a feeling that it would be worth his time to do so. Invoking one of his ancestor’s dark gifts, the warlock began to penetrate deeper into the forest.

V found himself with his hands bound behind his back shortly after the tiger-men had started their march early in the day. It did*’t take the tribesmen too long to figure out that he was immune to their sleeping poison, and for that he was constantly being watched by some of the more larger creatures. It was one of those creatures which had decided to prod him forward with its spear.

“Hurry up, man-corpse," it spat. “We ain’t fallin’ behind ‘cause of you.”

“I see punctuality is a trait your kind takes seriously,” V sarcastically replied.

The Rakshasa shot him a dirty look before turning to one of its comrades and muttering something in its native tongue. He didn't know what was being said, but the tone made it all too obvious that it wasn’t happy about having to guard the red garbed man.

It seemed like hours before the small group finally reached the tiger-men’s camp. Though, it didn't really look like any normal camp that he was briefed on, and only one thought entered his mind as he took in the scene around him.

“What, is there a war going on that only you guys know about?” V asked. He was serious this time around.

The leader of the Rakshasa group turned to him and nodded. “Aye, but not just any war, man-corpse. This is the site of the Clansmeet.”

“Let’s pretend I have no idea what the hell that is,” V said.

The lead Rakshasa sighed. “The Clansmeet is a meeting of all Rakshasa tribes,” it explained. “Every tribe from around the land comes when one is called, and for good reason.”

“War?” V asked.

“Aye. But not just any war. Individual tribes can fight their own battles, but there are some that concern the fate of *all* Rakshasa tribes. Only something such as a war is serious enough for a Clansmeet to be called.”

The Rakshasa guarding V prodded him with its spear again. “You go to Shaman,” it said.

“What about my friends?” V asked as he nodded his head at the group of tiger-men carrying his comatose allies.

“The Koshir will go with his shadow friends to the prison tents,” it said. “The mountain tiger will go to a tent that was set up just for one of his kind.”

“Koshir?” V asked. “Look, I have no clue what that even means. All I know is that your leader there used the word as a reason to attack us at our camp. So what’s your problem with him and why the hell am I stuck in the middle of this?”

A voice sounded from behind him. “You truly don’t know, stranger?”

V turned around, and saw he was staring into the face of a massive Rakshasa that had white fur with black stripes. He was surprised to see it, because so far he had only seen two kinds of colors among the tiger-men: the dull brown of his captors, and the orange fur with black stripes that the one with his group had possessed.

The Rakshasa which had prodded V fell to its knees as it bowed to the white tiger-man. “Chief Grazz’t, you honor us with your presence,” it cried out.

The chief nodded in acknowledgement. “You can stop acting like a fool now, Jo’zir.” The Rakshasa leapt to its feet at that.

Grazz’t turned his attention back to V. “Strange,” he said as he studied the red garbed man’s features. “A man who travels in blood, but not shadows. Yes, I believe the Shaman will wish to speak with you immediately.”

“Can I leave after that?” V asked.

Chief Grazz’t bellowed a hearty laugh. “The corpse has a sense of humor as well, I see." He narrowed his eyes as he stared hard at V. “No, you can’t leave. What kind of prisoner leaves his captors freely?”

“I’m not sure. What kind of captors treat their prisoners in a manner that downplays their position?”

“The Rakshasa race is not without honor,” Grazz’t spat. “Let the ignorant say what they will, but just because we refuse to throw prisoners in dank stone prisons does not mean that we don’t have our ways of dealing with them.”

Jo’zir prodded V with his spear once more. “We go to Shaman’s tent now."

V turned to look at Grazz’t once more before he allowed himself to be led away by Jo’zir. “Just one question. I assume I’m here because of this ‘Koshir’ business, if I understand my predicament correctly. But just what does the word mean?”

Grazz’t snorted in disgust. “Corpse-man, you truly are not from around here, are you? Koshir is a title which is given only to those who commit the vilest of crimes among our race.”

“Which would be what, exactly?”

“Only that which even the mountain tribes dare not commit,” Grazz’t answered menacingly. At this point, several of the tiger-men of the camp had stopped whatever they were doing to listen in to the exchange between the strange red garbed captive and their chief.

“You may call them different names among your kind, but we call them ‘Koshir’. Killers of the young.”

Arial woke up some time later. He blinked a few times in order to clear his eyes, and he found he was in a tent with very few accommodations. He noticed that he felt different as well.

For starters, the blood and grime he had gotten from the Keep was cleaned from his face, and his shirt was now gone, instead replaced by a dull brown tunic made from some kind of animal fur. He guessed it had to be made from some kind of fox, but he didn't know for sure. His leggings were also replaced with pants made from the same material as his shirt was, as were his shoes.

“Where the hell am I?” he asked to nobody in particular. Then, the events of the early morning came back to him in a flash of memories, and he swore out loud as he realized where he must’ve been.

A Rakshasa poked its head through the flaps of the tent after he spoke, and smiled as it saw he was awake. “Soooo,” it began. “The dread Koshir comes to us at last. I’ve always wondered when I’d get the chance to meet Ra’hkiera’s slayer.”

“I have no clue what you’re on about,” Arial defiantly replied.

“You lie, then. Or are sorely mistaken. I was there when you slaughtered the Oranjo Elk tribe with the dragon-clad men,” the Rakshasa replied flatly.

“But you are lucky yet,” it continued. “The great spirit shall pass judgment on you himself come nightfall.”

“Oh, great,” Arial muttered.

“Indeed it is, Koshir," the Rakshasa happily replied. “There is only one sentence fitting for your crime. I shall await the day it comes to pass.” With that, the tiger-man disappeared from view, presumably to continue guarding his esteemed prisoner.

Arial slumped to the ground with a sigh. He didn't know what the tiger-man was referring to when he mentioned the ‘great spirit’, but if his current situation was anything to go by, he knew it must not have been good.

Rajh woke to find himself in a dark tent. He did*’t need to focus to know where he was, because a feeling in his gut had already warned him of his predicament, which was also backed up by a very familiar face staring at him that very instant.

“Vhy, hello, Rajh Ko’jaz” the face spoke. It belonged to a Rakshasa with coloring similar to Rajh’*, but where he was at least somewhat groomed, this tiger-man had multiple cuts across his face. An eye was also missing, with a patch of healed skin covered haphazardly by fur being the only indication that anything used to be there previously.

“Ah hell,” Rajh said. “Ur’Droj. It has been…too long.”

“Oh yes,” Droj replied. “Too long, Rajh. Too long indeed.”

Another Rakshasa appeared behind Droj, wearing a mask of happiness across his face. It handed a tray to the scarred tiger-man, which was graciously accepted by the imposing figure. Rajh tried to sit up, but found that he was bound to a table of sorts, and his weapons were missing. Eyeballing the tray, he saw many hunting instruments, and his heart started beating rapidly as he realized what was about to happen.

Droj picked up a knife from the tray. Twisting it around in his hand, the Rakshasa said, “I’ve been vaiting for zis for a long time, Rajh. I remember ze day you betrayed ze tribe all too clearly.”

“You vanted me to dishonor my mate by choosing your daughter instead,” Rajh replied angrily. “How ze hell can I live vith zat for ze rest of my days?”

“Disobeying ze chief of ze tribe is still dishonorable, Rajh. But don’t fret…zis shall be long and painful.”

Rajh didn't get the chance to scream as the bigger Rakshasa began to use the knife on him.
