*********A BIG Thank you to 13th Murder, who so faithfully kept this thread alive for me during many months absence. Thank You!**********

Dear readers, please be gentle . This is the first time anyone who isn't related to me or otherwise expected to like what I write has been allowed to read any of my stories.
I used to write a lot - in my last 2 years of highschool I nearly finished a novel that at the time I thought was good but then seemed lame so I quit writing for a number of years (I blame my discovery of Runescape foremost lol). I think I can resurect my novel if I develop my writing skills a bit more before I attempt it again.
The first two stories were both written over a year ago, the second two were just written since I started this thread. The first one is the only story based on my runescape character.
Anyway, enough of my rambling, none of you are here to read about my personal life.
Since I have more than one story up now, I should inclde a table of contents, so here it is.

"The Arena", "Love Thy Neighbour", and "Pure of Heart" were assignents I did for 'The Academy of Literature', which I felt I had to share. My mom just cried when she read "Love Thy Neighbour".
The (SC) Means it was an entry I submitted for the story contests that were held on the forums. I've inclused the to save threads.
If you enjoyed reading these please read my other story, "Outlander". The Quick find code is:49-50-803-41843837

A Fisherman's Tale
==================

The smell of salt and raw fish had permeated through every fibre of her clothing. The odour followed her to the bank where she deposited a load of lobsters fresh from the sea. 'I will cook them later,' she thought wearily to herself. 'I just want to be done quickly.'

People moved away from her as she approached them. Though she was used to the smell of fish, most people found it repulsive. Often she would catch some handsome warrior gazing at her graceful beauty, but as soon as he was near enough for the gentle breeze to carry the smell of fish to his nostrils, he would look beyond her and pretend it was someone else he was smiling at. She did not mind. She would never have chosen the life of a fisherman if she did not like solitude. Few indeed were the friends who either had lost their sense of smell, grown accustom to her aroma, or simply did not care that she always stank of fish. These friends meant more to her than the riches she was working to earn, and for them alone would she sacrifice a few hours of her precious fishing time to help them gather herbs or cowhides. Occasionally, too, she would go with them to help defeat some menacing creature, but her heart was never in fighting; she was no battle maiden.

The only blood she desired was that of the fierce elusive shark. She longed for the day her skills would be advanced enough to try her hand at fishing one. It had been her greatest dream for as long as she could remember. Then one day her efforts and sacrifices paid off - she was deemed worthy of entering the fishing guild! But it was not the time to relax yet. Instead she doubled her efforts, doing nothing but fish from sunup to sundown, catching one or two thousand lobsters a day. At last the day had finally come. She withdrew her harpoon from the bank, hefted the shaft above her sholder to check the balance, and examined the barbed tip.

All was ready. Inhaling deeply, she thought to herself, 'This is it, the moment I have been waiting for.'

She took a swig of a fishing potion, and plunged the harpoon deep into the water. The barbed tip made contact, and bit into the flesh of a shark. Elated, she used all her strength to haul it out of the ocean and into her backpack. She had done it! Caught her first shark! Many dreamed of this day, but few ever saw it come to pass.

Thinking back on that day, and the weeks of fishing it took to reach it made her smile. She had since caught thousands of sharks, but the feeling never got old.

That one doesnt have a title, I'm open to suggestions. I'll post another short story I wrote as soon as I can find it.
If I feel confident enough I may even post the history of my runescape character. I have lots of scraps of paper everywhere I have to turn into something legible, and haven't gotten very far on it yet, but this might be the push I need to finish it, or at least get working on it again.

I found the other short story I wrote last year ago. It was supposed to be longer, but I got stuck and re-wrote it so it can stand alone. Again, untitled. Suggestions welcome.

To Fight Again
==============

"Aah," Brinn moaned at the touch of the Healer's hand on his bare chest. A'abla frowned at the gaping hole in his chest; a wound which, in any other world would have been fatal. Here in Gielinor, however, where life is eternal and death has no place, it was merely a nuisance remedied in a few minutes. Three times already this morning she had healed Brinn of similar wounds.

She knit her brow in concentration. As she worked her healing magic on the bleeding man she thought about the god to whom she had devoted her life. Many ages ago, to end the war between Saradomin and Zamorak about the mortality of mankind, Guthix had stirred from his slumber to settle the dispute. The most ancient of ancient gods began saving people from the clutches of death and sending them, completely healed, to the Town of Rebirth, the bridge between life and death, mortality and immortality.

He did not, however, have the same view as Saradomin. The eternal life Guthix offered did not come without a price, and that cost was material possessions. Mankind is a greedy race, and the loss of material wealth caused the suffering that so pleased Zamorak. Greater even, than dying would have caused.

There was a flipside though, 'There always is with Guthix,' thought A'abla. Here in the dueling arena defeated warriors retained their belongings, but the healing was not instantaneous, neither was it painless. It mattered little, as no one remembered the pain, but it appeased Guthix and that's what counted. Thus appeased, the ancient god returned to his slumber, leaving A'abla and the other Healers to their secret work.

Brinn moaned again, stirring her from her reflections. A'abla redirected her focus on the injured man. His wound had healed seamlessly, now all he needed was a few minutes rest for the pain to subside, and with it most of the memories of the pain.

Anyone read my stories yet? I know I said be gentle, but that doesn't mean don't post. I'm a big girl, I can handle criticism. If you don't like it, say so but please tell me what you don't like so I can improve on it.
