I don't like winning if it's completely pointless! (Not to say that defeating you is pointless, but that winning thanks to a charge of elephants is lame) =P Just like I hate fighting someone who holds back or does not put forth their very best... >.> Which tends to happen often when my friends invite their friends to play soccer with us.

Don't see why there would be any point in defeating me :P . After all, you are more experienced in the multiplayer aspects of Rome than I do. Unless you're trying to salvage your pride after those chess matches... lol! Only joking. Still, would love to face you in battle sometime.
Speaking of which, I rarely put forth my very best. Most of the time I don't need to, but if I lose I always have an excuse :P .

What? No point in defeating you? You're really smart, and you seem to have a talent for strategy! There's every bit of pride in defeating you in battle! I guess I am more adept in the multiplayer mode, but that was a year ago, I haven't played since then. I haven't really played Rome itself either (Recently that is), I just don't really enjoy fighting my brothers that much; since they don't want to fight me and when they do it feels half-hearted.
I'm not too good at chess! XD I wish I were though! But I have little patience when playing against others... That's why I like real time so much, you're opponent can't seat there waiting for hours to plan his/her move... I like quick on your feet thinking.
XD I know exactly what you mean! I do that sometimes when I'm not in the mood to fight, or know that my opponent is stronger. I'll purposefully not give it my best, so that I have an excuse when I lose. Even though I know that I would have lost had I put out my best. But I prefer to give my best no matter what, it's only through defeat that I can learn, so I don't mind loosing that much anymore.

Nah, my strategies are average at best. Nothing an average gamer wouldn't have thought of already. I haven't played Rome for a long time either. Swtor and World of Tanks calls :P . My dad and my sister sometimes used to play Empire Earth with me too. Perhaps 3 of us against 2 AI. My dad usually spend the time bolstering his defences and never join us in attacks. He seemed to struggle with real-time strategy and is better at things like Chess. But when we play against each other, I'll just secretly turn up the game speed since I can cope but he can't :P .
Not hours! You can't sit for hours at a chess table. But while your opponent is plotting, shouldn't you be plotting as well?
That's right. I'm rarely in the mood to fight lol. That's not how I wish to prove myself to the world.

This will probably disappoint you, but so are multiplayer strategies. Since the game is really limited to units fighting and which type of units are strong against which; as oppose to real life where you can really go out of the bow and for example set the field on fire to burn your enemies or dig traps, or have some of your own soldier in their ranks to cause chaos during fighting etc; so the techniques are generally the same. There's always a frontal attack, and flanking maneuvers.
I play AOE3 with my brothers, but that game is solely about speed, I can win against several of my brothers against me, but I'm not even nearly good enough for multiplayer. (Nor do I strive to be: I like strategy, ruse, and thought alot more than math, resources, and speed of clicking.) Secretly turn up the game speed? XD Evil, evil! Is your sister good at those?
Oh trust me, the friends I play with take hours... Plus, I don't even know why but I have a reputation to be good at chess. (Which I have no idea where it comes from since I don't play chess!) So everyone take their sweet time fighting me... And I hate waiting for them. I'm not that good so I plan 1-3 moves ahead, but I've planned them in like 30 seconds while they take forever. And I just sit there, waiting... after an hour, I pretty much lose all will to fight. I guess time chess with a 10 second per turn limit would be more my style.
Fighting, such a controversial thing for me. =P

Yeah well, that's going into game mechanics here. Certainly things has to be compromised of course in a gaming situation to make it balanced and fun. It's no fun going into a battlefiled to find only your opponent can lay traps lol.
I think Empire Earth 1 is similar. Speed and ambition. Need to take risks to expand and take over more resource points. My sister is not as good as I am, but much better as an ally than my dad because she is at least willing to make coordinated attacks against AI while my dad is practically never ready for them, always building more defences etc. But my sis tend to panic when a massive invasion is at her doorstep but, given my experience, I'm generally more cool-headed than she is.
Yeah well, my preferred timing would be one minute each :)
Are you the oldest by the way, bullying younger brothers? :P
