~Intro~
Lo and behold. Carrotman714 is back and writing again.
Before I get onto it let me re-introduce myself. I've been on these forums for a while and have since then completed one terribly written story, started one terrible story and started one decent story. All have been lost and after my most recent work {~Fate~} was lost I quietly left the forums for a while.
Since then I've been considering writing again and have finally managed to write another story.
Now then, this story is going under the genre of HORROR so there will be blood, gore and other scenes to make you feel a little squeamish. Enjoy.

~Prologue~
I don't remember how long ago it was. All I remember was that it was an uncountable amount of years ago.
I don't remember how you were formed, where you came from. Why you came, why you did the things you did and why you didn't stop. Could you stop? Could you even think? Did you even know what you were doing, did you have a conscious or are you just a mindless animal? Are there more like you? Do you even know? What does it matter if you do know, how can you tell me? Would you tell me? Can you even speak? So many questions and yet they yield no answers it frustrates me to no end!
Can you feel? Can you see what you've done? Do you know why you've done it? There is a meaning for everything so there must be a reason for it all! Why, why!? Why did it happen? Why did YOU happen? Did you come to punish us, to pass judgment, bring us to justice?! For what purpose was your abomination of an existence created for?! What have we done to deserve this?! My mind is being torn apart by these unanswerable questions!
How...Why...When...Where?! Why did it all happen!? What was it for!? What have we done?! What...
What are you?

~Chapter I~
"Brr..."
A cold tingle runs up my spine. I have my arms clasped around my chest in a vain effort to keep me warm. I'm shivering non-stop and the eerie cold of the room only seems to worsen by the second. I take a glance around my bedroom and find nothing amiss. The windows are closed, the candles are lit, I'm even wearing my light blue, woolen jacket. I look to the right and spot the problem.
"Ah..." I mutter to myself. The fireplace had burnt out. I take a mere three steps to reach the furnace and reach for the tinderbox kept beside it. Each step, each movement in the cold causes pain. My limbs feel as though they have been frozen solid. It takes me several strikes to light a match. As I go to light the oak logs I had put in the fireplace the day before, a chill wind blows out my match.
I mumble an infuriated swear to myself and set upon lighting the next match. Then stop. If I had all the windows, doors and cracks in the room sealed then where did the gust come from? Hastily, I stand and glance furtively around the room. I do not spot a single opening in the room for a breeze of that force to have entered. Quietly, I decide it would be best to forget this and head back to bed.
Turning around after placing the tinderbox back where it belonged I crept towards my blanket-less bed. I curse myself for not accepting Lily's offer to borrow one of her blankets. Right now I wouldn't have cared whether or not they were purple. I lay one hand on the mattress and prepared to propel myself onto the bed.
Thok.
I continued to lower myself onto the bed.
Thok. Crunch.
I stood again. What was that sound?
SSEEPP.
My heart skips a beat. The sound is coming from behind my bedroom door! Beside my bed, hanging on a rack is my scythe. I grabbed it, holding it tightly in my hand. I slowly advance towards the door. Then stop. Was this a good idea? What could be behind that door? I back away slowly, retreating towards my bed.
Thok.
Thok.
Thok...

The sound dulls. Then ceases. Deciding that whatever had been making the sound has gone I begin to make my advance on the door again. Upon reaching the maple door my left, empty hand goes to the doorknob, my scythe clutched in my right. Hesitantly, I turn the doorknob.
I step into my living room. Contained within is my table along with a pair of chairs, all teak. A locked cabinet left of the table and chairs holds my money and various expensive goods. Lily's birthday present is in there. I've bought her a ruby bracelet. She loves rubies.
On the right of the room is my cupboard of farming tools and next to that is my pantry. My front door, directly ahead of my shows no sign of intrusion. Through the windows either side of it I see nothing but the darkness of Varrock at midnight. Sighing, I turn away thinking the sounds to be figments of my imagination and tiredness. I turn clockwise towards the door but stop halfway. The lock on my equipment cupboard has been shattered and is lying on the floor in several pieces.
I creep towards the door, floorboards creaking with every step adding to my fear. I feel the room grow colder as I step closer and closer to the cupboard. What am I doing?! I should be calling the Varrock guard, not seeing for myself!
Yet with those thoughts in my head I don't stop. Something compells me to keep walking, compells me to see for myself. Reaching the door, I open it.
Blood. All over the inside of the tool shed. As if someone had thrown a bucket of the stuff everywhere. Upon opening the door I found a large amount of it spill forth onto the floor, drenching my feet. I cry out in disgust and look up. I dare not think about what I saw but never have I seen a human body befouled in this way before.
I try desperately to shut the cupboard but it won't budge. I halt as I hear deep breathing behind me. I turn only to receive a sharp stab to the gut. I look up and try to see my assailant, only to be engulfed by darkness.

~Chapter II~
I awake, bolting upright and panting like a tired dog. Sweat seeps from pores all over my body and drip their way down. I lie back, tired and frightened. That was the third nightmare I have had during this month. All had been similar in multiple ways though things changed. In the first dream the candles hadn't been lit whereas they had in the second and third. However in the second dream I opened up my cabinet and not the tool cupboard. Everything else had been the same though.
The cold, the mysterious wind, the sounds, the lack of evidence to prove someone had gotten in, the shattered lock, the blood...
I grunt and try to focus on something else. With a slight turn of my head I look out the window to be greeted with the early Varrock twilight. The sun would rise momentarily meaning it must be around four in the morning.
"Ugh," I moan to myself. "No one will be up for hours..."
Turning my head back to its original position facing the ceiling I decided to attempt sleeping again. But how could I sleep knowing I could be drawn into another lucid dream In which I would almost certainly wake shaken and afraid?
Regardless, I did.
******************************************************************************
Knock knock.
"Rrnnghh...Who is it?" I grumble still half asleep.
"Sorry?" Came a familiar yet muffled voice from outside my front door. I sit upright in bed and open my eyes to find the morning sunlight streaming in through the windows.
"Who is it?" I repeat louder even though I already know who it is.
"Lily!" She calls back. "Can you open the door now?"
I stand and make my way towards my bedroom door. After opening it and finding my way through my living room in my half-sleep I opened the door to be greeted by Lily's smiling face.
"Good morning!" She beamed. "How are you?"
I mumble something that even I can't understand as Lily lets herself in.
"I'll assume that means tired." She jived as she sat on a chair.

"I haven't been sleeping well." I declared, making my way towards the pantry.
"Oh?" She inquired her face turning from happiness to concern. "Tell me about it."
"It doesn't matter..." I muttered opening the pantry after a seconds hesitation. After selecting a food item to my liking (a redberry pie) I sat it down on the kitchen bench in the adjacent room and begun to heat it.
"Do you want anything?" I called to Lily while waiting for the pie to cook.
"No thanks," She called back. "I had food at home."
I continued eating my meal, the house racked with silence save my own chewing. Upon finishing, I retreated to the living room to see what Lily had been doing in the five minutes it took me to eat my pie. She had a book in hand and was reading it intently.
"Good book?" I asked upon entering the room
"Mmhmm" She sounded. "It's about a boy venturing into The Wilderness to confront his fears."
"His fears being?"
"A fear of monsters. What else do you find in The WIlderness?"
I chuckled and sat in the seat opposite her.
"Aren't you supposed to be in school today?" I asked
Lily put her book back in the backpack she brought in with her and crossed her arms over her knees. She then raised an eyebrow.
"You mustn't be sleeping very well at all!" She laughed. "It's Saturday Noah!"
"Oooh," I moaned. "So that's why you're here."
"Yes! Today's adventure day!" She giggled delightfully. "Where are we off to today, adventuring buddy?"
I smile at Lily's enthusiasm and put my hand to my chin in thought. My smile dwindles not long after.
"Sorry, I just remembered..." I said. "I'm supposed to be going to Draynor today to help Ms. Schism with her garden.
Lily's face dropped. This was the fourth adventure we'd had to miss because of my work. And Lily was always keen to go...
"Well ok!" She said suddenly. "Maybe next week! I'll see if Maria wants to play gnomeball again! Bye Noah!"
She'd jumped away before I had a chance to respond.

I sigh at the young girl's energy and go to my equipment cupboard to gather tools for the day ahead. As I walk towards the cupboard, I feel a terrible sense of foreboding. As my hand clasp the handle, visions of my nightmares bombarded my mind.
If I open the door, will blood gush out like in the dream? Will I find inside among my scattered tools a disemboweled corpse? Will I turn and find myself gutted by an unknown attacker? My hand trembled slightly as I pull open the door.
Nothing happens.
My tools are as they should be, scattered messily around the cupboard, boxes of seeds and jars of mushroom spores idly resting on shelves doing nought but collecting dust. I shake my head at my stupidity. Merely a recurring nightmare and nothing more! As I picked my equipment out of the shed, one by one placing them in my pack I constantly told myself how much of a fool I was for thinking such an absurd dream could come true.
With scythe in hand and tool pack resting on my shoulders I left the dreariness of my home to venture into the world outside.
******************************************************************************
The walk to Draynor is anything but exciting. The citizens of the world are going about their daily buisness am was I. No one is crying for help, no demons are attacking and the monsters of The Wilderness are kept at bay by powerful magic's cast at the end of the Godwars.
Upon reaching Draynor, a score of children scurry past me waving kites with imprints of dragons on them while pretending their toy horses are real and galloping along with them. Olivia and a market guard are scolding a teenage boy for trying to steal seeds from the stall and The Wise Old Man is going on his daily jog around town.
I couldn't have asked for a more peaceful world.

~Chapter III~
"Good morning Noah!" Greeted Miss. Schism.
"Good morning Miss, how are you today?"
"I'm good thank you, though my flower patch needs some work..."
And so she went into detail about what was wrong, how she thought the wrong occurred, suggestions for what should be done, where she got the flowers, how beautiful they were.
Blah Blah Blah! That's Miss. Schism for you! When she talks it's best to just listen, as I do. So as I weed through her garden prying up anything that doesn't belong there and applying proper plant medication to sick plants she just gets onto all sorts of topics. Being the town gossip's number one worker has its disadvantages!
So as I'm weeding away at a particularly stubborn weed, an elderly woman approaches Miss. Schism.
"Why hello Maureen! How are you today?"
"Well, Ol' Jonathan got 'imself attacked by a wild goblin again..."
The two then spoke on random subjects as old women do. I was grateful that I could now work without Miss. Schism pounding me with irrelevant sentences every four seconds I was however, unfortunately drawn into listening to their discussion.
"Did'ja hear? Robert down at Lumbridge was found dead this mornin'..."
"Oh my! that's terrible! Poor Beatrice will be devastated!"
"Yeh, but the real weird thing is...No one knows 'ow it 'appened."
"Whatever do you mean?"
"Well 'is 'ouse had no sign of any break ins but the poor fella was found torn t'e shreds on 'is own bedroom floor!"
"Torn to shreds!...How horrible! tell me more!"
Their discussion continued without me to listen to it. I focused on my job at hand, trying desperately not to listen to their conversation.
No forced entry? Torn to shreds? It almost sounded as if...
I put such ludicrous thoughts from my head and attempt to rip out the stubborn weed again.
