But you've survived it all and even defeated Evan Edgevil. It would take courage that transcends most White Knight's to accomplish something like that. And these-" he held up the diaries. "-because you secured these we are now aware of a much greater threat to our world and can attack it before it gains enough power to strike. Without this, without the trials you overcame, we would have some VERY dark times ahead of us."
The children were speechless. In their struggle for survival, the magnitude of their accomplishments had never become apparent to them. It all just seemed like a fight to survive, not save the world. Xavier gave them a few moments to comprehend the praise the continued:
"Furthermore, such a deed does not go unrewarded. You kids need a nice home, so I'll have it arranged that you all have a roof over your heads and a family to-"
"Wait!" Veronica interrupted.
"Yes?"
"We want to be together! We've gone through so much separation, we don't-"
"Woah, it's alright!" Xavier interjected. "Heheh, you see, I've got a couple of friends down in Varrock. They're not too much older than you, so I was thinking you could stay with them. They live really close to each other so you wouldn't have to worry about being apart."
"Really?"
"Yes. The two of them would love to have your company and I can easily arrange for you to be placed under their care."
The four children looked at each other, then huddle around Veronica for a hushed discussion.
"I'm still scared," mumbled Edward. "And without mum and dad and Tristan..."
"It will be a change, but you'll get used to it Edward." said Robert comfortingly.
"And don't forget," added Veronica. "We'll always be with you. Nobody else will be taken from you."
Overhearing, Xavier leant in. "I promise you, your agony is over."
Veronica glimpsed the stars and the circle of friends around her and her new companion Xavier.
"I think," she said. "That Varrock is sounding better than Entrana..."

~Epilogue~
-One month later...

Two days before her fifteenth birthday, Veronica had sat down at her desk and continued writing. Her hair was tied into a ponytail by the same bandage that had bound her face after her confrontation with Evan and over her right eye socket was a white eyepatch. Laced over her face and body were scars and stitched up wounds of battles long past. Despite this, she still seemed like a petite, innocent girl with a soft voice and a heart full of love. She pondered for a moment, then set her pencil to paper:
'Jaden going missing was the event that triggered it all. If it hadn't been for him, we would have been in Edgeville during the attack by Evan's 'Omni-zombie' and 'Mannequin' and I doubt he would have spared us because we were kids. I believe the only reason he allowed us into his manor after that was because he had the chance to, none of his mindless familiars or any of the creatures of The Wilderness reached us. However, I'm not sure how he got the 'Mannequin' to conjure up the heat walls AFTER we were all within the town after it had been destroyed. I guess it doesn't matter. When Jaden, Tristan, Natalie and I realised that Evan's grave had been disturbed, we initially theorised-'
"Veronica!" Lily called from the hallway.
"I'm in my room!" she responded.
Lily poked her head in, her curiously pink hair a constant reminder to Veronica of Georgia. "We're going over to Noah's for lunch soon, do you want to help me make something?"
"Sure!" Veronica replied enthusiastically. "Just let me finish this bit..."
Lily crept into the room and peered over Veronica's shoulder to study the words the girl was so furiously scribing.
"Working on the diary, huh?" she remarked.
"People should know," Veronica began. "That there are things out there that are scary and dangerous. And they should know that you should cherish everything and everyone you have before you die or you'll become like Evan."

Lily suddenly embraced her and wiped a newly formed tear from Veronica's eye. The eighteen year old had been Veronica and Edward's guardian for barely a month but the three of them had grown very close and stood firmly by one another during times of distress. Lily would sometimes hear Edward mumbling Tristan's name in his sleep and there would be times when Veronica would abruptly begin crying. Lily, too, seemed to suffer from periodic, graphic nightmares and often woke up screaming in the middle of the night. Veronica and Edward were only too happy to comfort her.
"I'll cherish you," Lily whispered. "So will Edward, Noah, Natalie, Robert and Xavier. And then we'll all cherish each other. And, finally-" she tapped the diary. "-whoever reads this will learn to cherish you and their loved ones too."
There was a knock on the door and from down the hallway the two girls could hear Edward crying "I'll get it!"
Lily unwrapped herself from Veronica and the two went to see who was at the door. As they stepped into the loungeroom, they were greeted to the sight of Edward welcoming Robert inside. Veronica had recently come to regard the young man with a sort of curiosity, for he had discarded his old attire of suits and ties for a new outfit. He was still wearing a white, button-up shirt but wore black trousers instead. He also began wearing stylish, black jackets and now also wore a grey scarf. The wardrobe change had apparently been Natalie's idea, who thought (as she had secretly divulged to Veronica) that he looked more handsome like that.
"Good day," Robert still introduced himself formally. "I trust you're all doing well?"
"Yeah! Lily's house is awesome!" Edward exclaimed. "And the food is always great! How does Noah cook?"
"Well," Robert mulled over his answer.. "It isn't fantastic, but it only catches fire once every fortnight. So I guess that's a plus."
"Yikes," Lily cut in. "Count on Noah to be a terrible cook! We better make some extra food then, Veronica!"

The four of them laughed, then Edward inquired as to why Robert had come over.
"Noah and Natalie have almost finished cooking," Robert explained. "It'll be lobster and beef, along with whatever you're making."
"We'll be right there," Lily said. "Just give us a couple of minutes."
Robert dashed back to Noah's place with Edward in tow. Veronica and Lily hastily began preparing a large pineapple and anchovy pizza that they could share with the group. As they waited for it to cook, Veronica asked a question.
"Do you think the world can ever be at peace?"
"You mean do you think that all the humans and monsters can just put down their swords and say 'Let's be friends?' " Lily replied.
"Well yeah but," Veronica explained. "I mean, I don't expect there the conflict between humans and some of the larger, dumber monsters to cease. But there are so many creatures out there with intelligence that just want to fight and kill and conquer and control. Will there ever be a day where we-" she paused to think of the right words when Lily interrupted.
"-A day when we stop being afraid of each other," she elaborated. "I mean, that's the only reasons there's conflict, right? We're afraid that the people that are different to us will see us differently and not like it. We're afraid that if someone is stronger or looks stronger than us that they could conquer us so, in order to prevent that, we attack them first as a sort of 'preemptive revenge.' Then there are those that are afraid that the world is changing too much for them to like it, so they seek to change it for their own ideals. I guess the only way for there to ever be peace would be if we became brave and tried to become friends with one another."
The timer on Lily's over rang. Veronica didn't comment on Lily's statement and focused on fumbling the pizza out onto a large plate and assisting Lily in carrying it over to Noah's house.

They entered the house and made there way into the dining room where Noah was setting up the cutlery whilst Natalie laid out several plates of food. The spiky haired blonde looked up and strolled over to greet the two. He offered to help Lily with her pizza and carefully laid it in the centre of the table. Veronica began helping Natalie with her preparations and asked her how her week had been.
"I put up the sword," she pointed to a broken steel longsword on the wall behind her. "Noah's going to inscribe 'In memory of Georgia, Tristan and Jaden' under it."
"I see he's hung up some of your artworks too." Veronica noticed the framed pictures depicting strange swirls of colours and eerie, phantom-like figures dotted around every wall of the house.
"Noah thinks I'm talented." she admitted modestly.
"Hey," Noah walked up to Veronica. "How have you been? How's the eye?"
"I've been fine, and my eye hasn't gotten infected or anything, so I suppose it's good."
"It's a shame though," Noah knelt down to her level. "But hey, I'm sure everybody would agree that you're better off a cyclops than a corpse."
Veronica managed a giggle. Noah invited her to sit down and before long, the rest of her friends were seated as well. Lily and Noah sat at opposite ends of the table, with Noah preparing to announce that it was okay to eat. Lily raised a hand and instructed him to wait.
"I want to dedicate this meal to those we have lost," she said, closing her eyes solemnly. Everyone else mimicked her actions. "May they live on forever in our hearts and be free of agony in death."
Before they all opened their eyes, Veronica added a final statement.
"And may our lives be free of any more blood. In any case, let us promise to not be afraid. After all, there's no point in wasting your childhood by wishing it could last forever. Look at the people around you and make them the most important people in your life. Cherish them while they're there."

~The End~
