=\/= Chapter 8: Fire's Company =\/=
Levantris finally had reached the bottom floor, where he was sure the other thieves were. He strolled casually along the hallways, and came to the golden room that was his, but there wasn't a soul to be found. The only noticeable sound was Savlon's heavy breathing that added to the stench of his cell. For a cannibalistic monster, he didn't sleep very loudly, but at least it helped Levantris to get some peace and quiet every once in a while.
"Now where on earth could they have gone?" Levantris asked the earthy air.
He walked over to Savlon's cell, and indeed, the ogre was sleeping like a peaceful, yet totally brash and gruesome, creature. Levantris took a small, brown-red shard of bone from the floor, stood back a good ten feet, and then chucked through the cell's bars and right at Savlon's cheek, which caused no reaction from him except his large, greasy hand to wipe his face, something sticky trying to get the hand stuck on the face as it separated.
"Hmm*h. I know he isn't going to like this, but it's the only way to get him up. Even if he is a stupid, moronic savage, he may have seen what happened to those four." Levantris grumbled as he took out a small Runite dart and let it fly through the nearly-still air, the sharp tip piercing into an area just under Savlon's nostrils, which caused him to let an ear-shattering growl of pain, and then pull the dart out, throw it down, and look to see who had done that to him.
"You!!" Savlon shouted, and he began to deliver rage-driven punches to the metallic bars of the call, his sticky saliva flying out and coating the bars unevenly, and Levantris sighed as he waited for Savlon'* fit to be over.
The monster delivered one last, intense punch to the bars, causing a powerful clang to ring through the hallways, but they never even budged a millimeter.
"So, what's up, Savvy?"
"Scrawny! What you want?" Savlon was snorting like a bull.

"Nothing much. You seen four thieves run by here earlier?" Levantris enjoyed talking to Savlon, because he liked to watch him try to break the power of the magical cage with no positive results.
"No! I not see scrawnies run by! I hear jabba, no see scrawnies!"
"I see... jabba. Ok, that's all I need to know, Sav. I'll give you an extra helping of food t'night." Levantris whirled around, and began to walk out of the entrance to the room that housed his cell.
"You still scrawny thief!" Savlon said as Levantris was leaving. His normal voice was like a person's shouting voice, but it wasn't as bad as his shouts.
Levantris turned back, looked at Savlon, and replied,
"Yeah, but this scrawny thief is way better than you now."

A new thought occurred to Sonia as she wandered the halls of the hideout. What had ever happened to Thessalia and the Tramp? Did they ever survive that tornado that landed her in this place? Were they going back to their lives and rebuilding what they had lost? ...What if they found out that she had become a thief?
"Yeah, and then I fell down laughing! It was so freakin' crazy back there, I swear man!" A manly voice echoed from across the junction that Sonia was standing near.
"Indeed... Thessie... the Tramp... Even if they were both really annoying and caused me headaches, I'm beginning to miss them now. But I can't get out of this! Arrgh!! From that night almost 20 years ago, to Thessalia's long-running vanity streak, to that blasted tornado! Why is it that nothing ever seems to turn out at least good for me?!" Sonia cried out, and she screamed as she punched the wall, but the bricks were very coarse, so she also cried out in pain as she examined her hand to find a small stream of blood running down the top of her hand, with many little black dots floating in the crimson substance.
"What the??" The man shouted as he ran across the junction and crashed into Sonia, the both of them falling onto the dirt-laden ground.

Sonia let out a high-pitched scream, that caused the man to cover his ears with his hands as he was right on top of Sonia. Sonia squirmed away from the man as quickly as she could, and found her wound now basically coated in the black dirt.
"Great! Now I'm going to get some really horrible infection, and it's all because of you!" Sonia got up and noticed the man rise. She kept her wounded hand close to her chest, and the man replied,
"Holy cows from the core of Gielinor! You're... you're like, that new recruit! You're a woman!" the man looked at Sonia questioningly, then back to his colleague, then back to Sonia, then back to his colleague again as if he expected him to answer the question that he was posing with his gestures.
"Cows from the core of Gielinor...? Vinnin, that's just so weird." The man was short, and his red hair was draped over his forehead, covering his eyes, and it also went down a little from the back of his neck, spreading out a little. He wore the standard outfit of Rogue Armor, except for a strange green band that was tied around his waist.
"But! But! But! ...Ok. So what's with you, little lady? Hehehe." Vinnin shot Sonia a grin.
Sonia was about to accuse Vinnin of trying to hit on her, but the red-haired man came in with,
"Give me a break, Vinnin. The only woman you see in a month and you're all over her like flies on Savlon." He snickered and slapped him softly on his back.
"Yeah, well, you try having all these-"
"Hello?! If you two idiots are done bickering, can we focus on my infected cut now?!" Sonia waved out her unwounded hand at the two other thieves.
"Oh. Is that all... don't worry. We got cures for that. I mean, you would think we'd be full of pestilence 'cause we're thieves, right? I think we're just too lazy to clean up around here and we'd rather just use the cures that we steal from the apothecary regularly. Hehe, I would hate to clean this place..." The red-haired man said with contentment.

"Well, isn't that just lovely! Now show me where the cures are!" Sonia looked at her wound carefully.
"Fine. I believe we haven't introduced ourselves, though... I'm Reitar, but you can call me Rei for short. And what's your name?"
"I'm Sonia... I have one thing to say to you, Rei."
"What is it, then?"
"If Vinnin tries to hit on me again and I'm can't slap him, do it for me, ok?" Sonia looked away from Vinnin and tried to focus on Reitar, who had his arms folded and was looking at Vinnin as she said it.
"Ha ha, you got it, Sonia. Now come on, follow me to the cure room." Reitar and Sonia chuckled, while Vinnin scoffed and slapped his head.

Levantris was headed for the mess hall, so he could get in a meal before he went out to negotiate some kind of transportation from Varrock to the edge of Burthrope, near Death Plateau. If they were walking the entire distance, it might've taken them two weeks to get there! But of course he knew that they should take as little time as possible to complete their deals. After all, Jipalar was a very special deal; it decided the fate of who would be one of the best gangs in RuneScape!
He bumped into several other thieves, who slipped him a quick "Hey" or "Hello" and then passed on to wherever they were going. Finally, he reached the mess hall, where the cook, a slightly fat thief who had been known for stealing food, especially from the Chefs' Guild outside of Varrock, was serving meat pizza today. The cook served him up a relatively large piece, cheese leaking onto the dim, green plate.
Levantris sat at a table all alone, until two figures known as Marent and Patrick noticed him, walked over, and sat down with him.
"Hey, Levantris! You going to finish that?" Patrick asked, eyeing Levantris's piece of pizza hungrily.
Levantris took a bite of the meat pizza, chewed it slowly, and then swallowed the piece.
"Yes. What do you two want... besides my pizza?"

"Um... earlier... no. Wait a minute, let me try and say this right..." Marent scratched his head, as Patrick kept staring at Levantris's pizza slice.
"Ok. Patrick, if you want it so much, go get your own slice. This is my slice, and I'm not sharing it with you."
"Brilliant! Meat pizza, here I come... mmmmm..." Patrick got up from his chair and he got in line for the pizza.
"I have it! Levantris, uh, I can call you that right?" Marent watched Levantris take another bite out of his pizza, noticed his nod, and continued.
"I think O'Hinal wants to harm you in some way. It's very strange, but he knows a lot of stuff that no one can figure out where he got it from. Also, when I asked him about why he follows you around all the time, he was all defensive and stuff."
Levantris finished his slice of pizza, and looked at Marent like he told him that gambling dice had come alive and scammed all the merchants in the banks all over RuneScape.
"Marent. O'Hinal's just mad at me because I demoted him from Class 4 to Class 3. Why did I do that? Because, he wasn't comfortable going through with some of the deals that Class 4 thieves had to deal with. He pleaded with me to let him stay on 4, promising he would play a more back-seat role as a strategist, but I wouldn't let him. All Class 4 thieves have to be willing and be able to withstand killing anyone, of any age, of any background."
"So you're saying he was afraid of having to kill? But now he'd probably kill me without a second thought!" Marent threw a shocked look towards Patrick, who was coming over with a steaming slice of meat pizza, which Patrick was sniffing heartily.
"What? What's going on, Marent?"
"...There's more to O'Hinal than we know! We were right about him having something against Levantris!"
"I see. But Levantris is right here... speaking of which, if O'Hinal's mad at you, would he go so far as to kill you?"

"Trust me. O'Hinal can't kill me like a thief. He can never do that."
"I see. So you're fine, and we don't have to worry about O'Hinal." Marent let out a sigh of relief, and got up from his chair to go get a slice of his own.
"Now, Patrick. Tell Marent this when you get the chance, but I still want you to watch O'Hinal for me. Only he knows what he could be doing behind our backs, and it most likely has something to do with me. I'm going to go off and do some negotiation on transportation for Jipalar. We're going to need it if we want to beat that accursed Phoenix Gang..." Levantris left his plate on the table, got up from his chair, and walked out of the mess hall, leaving Patrick to his pizza.
Marent came over and sat down next to Patrick, an average-sized slice of pizza sitting on a gray plate.
"Levantris told me to tell you that he wants us to keep watch on O'Hinal. We don't know what he's planning, and it'll also be fun spying on him!" Patrick took a humongous bite of his pizza, and all the chewed-up food began to show in his mouth, the red and yellow and brown mixing in his mouth, wet and soft.
"Dude. If you're gonna be a pig, do it a little less.... piggish. Kay?" Marent took a small bite out of the edge of his pizza.
Patrick closed his mouth, finished chewing the pizza in his mouth, and then swallowed it with a gulp.
"Hmhmhm, pizza is better than you. I only obey the pizza! And Levantris! And my mother, although she's dead..." Patrick chuckled, the warm pizza in his stomach apparently lightening up his mood.

Reitar led Sonia and Vinnin through the tunnels that surrounded the mess hall, the bustling sounds of thieves talking about random things filling the hallways. Sonia was pressing her hands together as hard as she could, to stop the bleeding that hadn't lessened up any since it started.

"Ouch... it's strange. I hate this place, I hate almost everyone here, and yet, the morbid cut in my hand doesn't freak me out as much." She remarked.
Reitar stopped at a bronze door with a green icon of an herb engraved on it. He took out a green key, and unlocked the door, and the three entered into the room. It was full of vials, many, many vials. There were shelves that went all the way up to the ceiling, and a ladder stood by if one needed to reach something on the top. The room had a narrow walking space, but it was pretty long, until a brightly burning torch hung on a wall marked the end of it.
"Hurry up! I'm starting to get dizzy here! Ow!" Sonia whined.
"Hold it... I've almost got it here..." Reitar reached up to the seventh shelf, which he had to tiptoe up to. He grabbed out a vial that was filled with a swirling, cream-yellow substance.
"That looks like what came out of that guy's mouth earlier after he ate that two-week old slice of pizza..." Vinnin remarked, his deep voice seeming to agitate the liquid within the vial, as it began to shake slightly.
"Whatever. Ok, Sonia... I'm going to pour this over your hand, and it's either going to sting really bad or it's going to feel like I'm pouring ice-cold pudding over it." Reitar opened the vial, and he carefully poured the liquid over Sonia's wound.
"Ahhhhh... that does feel good..." Sonia'* eyes cast a dreamy glance at Reitar, and his bright red hair... She noticed his small smile that he always seemed to carry around, and for a moment, it was like he was a graceful dancer, and that they were in the middle of a snowy forest in winter, with Sonia'* mind picturing a soft bunch of angel-white snow sitting in her hand that Reitar was pouring the liquid over.
She almost wanted to approach him and take a look at his eyes, just to see if there was any more to appreciate, but then the snow turned into her hand, and the cool, dreamy feeling was mutated into a hot, volcanic feeling.

It stung like pure alcohol did when it touched an infected wound, although now it was searing hot, almost like lava, and Sonia regained her vision of the real world.
"And... There we are. We're done. Too bad I wasted all of the vial! That was one nasty wound, but check out your hand now!" Reitar grinned and put the empty vial back in its place on the shelf.
Sonia looked at her hand, and noticed that there was only a small, ropy scar on it now, and she looked at Reitar and noticed his happy grin.
"Rei... Why are you smiling at me like that?"
"Ehehe Sonia, I'm almost always smiling or grinning. It's a habit of mine!"
Sonia raised an eyebrow at him, as if he might've been trying to force a lie out and he wasn't doing so well, but she just shrugged and left the room, forgetting to say thanks like she normally would have.
"Rei dude, you creep me out... and the boss creeps me out too, but dude, you're a new kind of creepy! If it weren't for the fact that you smile like that almost all the time dude, I'd say you were trying to catch what's-her-name for yourself..." Vinnin stared at Rei's jovial face, which had gone down from a grin into a normal smile.
"Vinnin, we may be thieves, but that doesn't give us a reason to not be happy..." Reitar'* voice began to get low and gloomy, although the smile was still painted on his face.
"Rei. What is up with you, man? Ever since you joined the Black Arms, you've always had that sappy mood on you. What's the real deal? It's almost like you're not human." Vinnin's deep voice seemed to distress Reitar.
When Reitar heard this, he stood there, speechless, although the smile never left his face, and then he quietly shuffled out of the room, and then darted silently to his own room as fast as he could, leaving Vinnin to shrug and then head for the mess hall, to catch the last of the pizza.

"Maybe Rei finally caught on and he'll be crying it out in his room. I'll just leave it to him, then. After all, Rei's an excellent thief, despite the creepy happy thing." Vinnin thought to himself as he stood in line, and wet his lips as he was served the very last slice of meat pizza.
After she had left the company of Vinnin and Reitar, Sonia once again wandered through the tunnels, not really watching where she was going, and she came to a strange, small room with a large, rusty iron door at the end of the room. The room had a wooden chair, and a flashy, yet still dirty, bronze statue of a thief running away with some loot.
She took this time to sit down on the chair, and think about what she was contemplating right before she ran into Vinnin and Rei: About the outside world, about Varrock... about all that had happened before she ended up in this place, which, back then, she would've easily called Hell, but now, it was more like a prison without the large, abrasive man trying to get a horrible song out of his dry lungs and forcing you to join in.

----

(10 years ago, one warm, rainy night in Thessalia's shop...)
"Thessie?" asked Sonia, watching the raindrops splatter against the large, clear windows of the store. The large, center fountain was a big black blur and all was peaceful. Sonia was sitting on a stool and had a younger, more innocent look on her face, her mouse-brown hair barely reaching down past her shoulders, the ends only just beginning to split apart.
"Yes, Sonia?" Thessalia replied, laying out a dress on a table near the workshop.
"You remember what happened tonight? Ten years ago?" Sonia'* voice had a curious tone in it, as if what she was mentioning didn't have any effect on her emotions.
"Indeed... the thie-" Thessalia stopped for a second, afraid to say the word and remind Sonia of what happened on that terrible night.
