"Yeah, Marry and Parry. So keep away from my hair." Jerry ran the comb through his hair and then tucked it in his pocket.
"That goes for you too, Jerry. Don't taunt them because your hair can light up these hallways on its own. If you're too self-centered you're going to end up killing yourself." O'Hinal walked over to the other side of the room, where the hallway behind him led down to the mess hall.
"Fine, Hinal. I'm going to the strategy room. I wanna brush up on techniques." Jerry began to walk down the hallway that led to the mess hall.
"Hmm. I'll go with you." Frojkal slinked out from behind the wall and followed Jerry.
O'Hinal was left in the room with Marent and Patrick.
"So... what do we do now?" Marent asked, scratching himself.
"Let's go talk to Levantris about the Rising Sun Deal. We've already heard about it from Savlon, but I want to see if he has anything else to say. I think I know where to find him." O'Hinal started down the other hallway.
Marent and Patrick shrugged. They followed O'Hinal, talking about random things as they went along, seeing as they didn't have much else to do.

->!<- Chapter 6: The Rising Sun Deal ->!<-
Levantris had just finished feeding Savlon his usual ration of animals and the one human that he usually requested. Gruesome, truly a sight that would make almost anyone retch at even the bloodcurdling sound of Savlon's feeding, his barbaric growling, chewing, burping, and yelling, the piercing screams of the living things he ate, but Levantris wasn't fazed at all by it; it was routine and stuff like that didn't gross him out at all.
He walked down the hall that led from Savlon's cell to his own quarters. It was at the end of the hall, where the torches were slightly less bright, and the door was made of gold, with no rust whatsoever forming on it. He turned his head to the side in curiosity at the door; something intrigued him about it that wasn't there before.
Levantris looked to the left and to the right very carefully, making sure no one else was around.
He took out the green, burning pen and began to write something on the door, not in letters, but in strange, wavy symbols that looked like they might be either the wind or the water flowing through the earth. The glowing letters disappeared into the golden door, and it slowly creaked open for Levantris. He walked in to his quarters, turned around and pushed the door closed.
It almost looked like any other room in the Black Arms' Hideout, dirty and unkempt, although there was more than one bed in the room, and it was three times as large as a normal room. Strange, shiny black trinkets in the shape of eagles and squids sat on teak shelves, glittering in the dim light of the room. The flames that burned in the steel torches made everything in the room gain a strange black and white look, the bright colors refusing to come out until they had a little more light.
Levantris sat down on one of the beds. He looked at his hand longingly, the hand that had the black crescent scar engraved on it. He let out a tired sigh, and lay down on the bed.

He stared at the ceiling for what seemed like hours, thinking about nothing in particular. He just wanted a rest from leading the gang. Of course he had to lead the Rising Sun Deal in a few hours, but the bed felt so comfy and sleep was beckoning him to drift off to the dream world... no. He had to stay awake, at least just until the Rising Sun Deal was over. Of course, considering the Deal was more or less an intermediate mission and his presence was only to keep everything in flow and to make sure that all went well without any complications, he could let the thieves he assigned to the mission work it out on their own.
Another thought was about to enter Levantris's mind, but it never reached his mind in time, because Levantris had closed his eyes and began to sleep on the bed, convinced that the team that would take the deal wouldn't mess it up and get themselves killed.
--
Sonia had finally managed to get on the entire set of Rogue armor, after a lot of stretching and the frustrating act of making sure it fit and looked right. She wasn't wearing the mask, although a small iron dagger that was in the drawer allowed her to cut open the back of the mask so her long, brown hair would have a place to roam.
Her room wasn't as tiny as the room she had waken up in, but it was still too small for comfort. The one bed that rested in the corner had sheets that looked like they hadn't been washed in 120 years, with the brown stains polka-dotting them, but it would have to do. As long as they didn't have any six-legged things crawling around in them, it wouldn't be too bad sleeping there, despite the stench that came from them if you got too close.
"Hum... so Levantris wants me, who hasn't any idea how to be a thief and doesn't really want to be one anyways, to go on a very dangerous mission all the way out in Burthrope. Very strange... but I guess I have to follow orders if he's the boss!"
Sonia sighed, thinking about what she would do next.

O'Hinal walked down the dirty hallways, making a left at the junction that had the mess hall on the right, turning right at a 4-way junction, going down a flight of stairs to a floor that was even dimmer than the last, turned right, turned left, and walked down to the end of the floor where a golden door gave off a small sparkle in the dim light.
He turned around and saw Marent and Patrick, looking at him impatiently, their faces pouting and their arms wrapped.
"Oh, get over it, you two, I know he's here because every single time he feeds Savlon, he always goes into his room to do whatever he does in there." O'Hinal rolled his eyes and scoffed at them.
"You know, why do you stalk the guy? You know his daily routine like you know how to kill a man with only one throw of a knife. I know we're supposed to be creepy, but this is going overboard!" Marent complained, approaching O'Hinal.
"It's none of your business, stick man. I've got my own agenda, you know. My life doesn't just include the Black Arms." O'Hinal turned around and was about to knock on the door, when Patrick swerved him around and nearly shouted at him,
"So what are you doing behind our backs?! Betrayal? Spending our treasure on yourself? Giving back to the poor? Or are you just trying to mess with our heads and laugh as we run around like mice from cats, trying to figure out your mystery?!"
"Shut up! If you leave me alone, I'll leave you two alone. And, Marent, I won't tell Levantris that you spilled those tanks of-"
Marent growled and attempted to kick O'Hinal, but missed and shouted in anger.
"Hey! Stop trying to blackmail us! And besides, how do you know that I did that?! You weren't even there!!" Marent began to breathe hard.
O'Hinal chuckled. He really did get a kick out of watching people figure out his mysteries.
"Ah, but I know, right? Now leave me be while I knock for Levantris." O'Hinal knocked on the golden door, the clanging sound echoing into the night.

O'Hinal kept on knocking at the door, but Levantris wouldn't answer. He couldn't, seeing as he was sleeping like a thieving infant, but the others didn't know that.
O'Hinal snorted like a bull and kicked the door, the clang echoing to the next floor.
"What is wrong with this guy?! Is he onto me, or will he just not come out?!" He turned around to face Marent and Patrick, sitting on the floor, their backs to the wall. Marent was trying to blow at his bangs, and Patrick poked his face continuously with his index finger.
"I don't know! Maybe you're wrong, for once." Marent stood up and scratched his right arm lazily.
"You know what...? I don't give a sewer rat's tail if I'm right or wrong! The matter is... it's... none of your business. Come on. Let's go meet Frojkal and Jerry in the strategy room. We need to go over strategies on how to work the area so that the Rising Sun Deal flows smoothly." O'Hinal tapped his foot quickly on the floor.
Patrick got up and dusted himself off.
"Well, I'm up for that! Let's go. Hey, O'Hinal?" He questioned, his voice being louder than it normally was.
"What?" O'Hinal's eyebrows went down a little.
"How come you hide all these things from us?"
"You're pretty much ignorant, aren't you?" O'Hinal laughed, his tone sounding almost sinister.
"It's the nature of us thieves to keep secrets. So I figure this is just normal. Let's go." O'Hinal started walking towards the stairs that led to the upper floor.
Marent stopped Patrick with his hand. He turned his head slowly, facing him, and then he whispered,
"I know he has something against Levantris... I know he's hiding something."
"Seriously? But what?"
"I don't know. C'mon, let's follow him before he suspects us of anything suspicious."

They caught up to O'Hinal and followed him through the network of underground tunnels until they arrived at the strategy room, where they found Frojkal standing beside a rickety wooden table with a desert-dry piece of parchment draped upon it. He was keeping the table steady with his hands, and examining the parchment like he was going to memorize its contents and re-write it.
Jerry sat on a chair that was way too small for him, making a circular motion with his index finger next to his ear and rolling his eyes.
"I cannot believe..." Jerry tried to stand up, but the chair stuck to his bottom like there was glue on it.
"I cannot believe this thing is stuck to me! Ugh!!" Jerry groaned as he tried to push it off of him, but it wouldn't budge.
Frojkal turned his head to the right, his face managing a semi-curious smile, then shook his head in pity and went back to examining the parchment.
While Patrick tried to help Jerry get the chair off of him, Marent approached Frojkal and noticed that the parchment he was examining was actually a detailed map of the King's castle; the locations of every single drawer, painting, rug, safe, water source, and even recommended thieving routes were all scribbled on it in different colors, a crafty legend telling the difference of them all in the upper-right-hand corner of the map.
"Whoa, dude. This would take hours to remember by memory. You certain you can handle all of that info?" Marent asked Frojkal.
Frojkal nodded in agreement, his eyes closed and his face solemn as a shaman's during a ritual.
"You're not much of a talker, are you, Froj?"
Frojkal shook his head no. But then, he delivered a line, his voice deep, soothing, and very pleasing to listen to.
"Is there... any reason... to talk so much?"
"I... I guess not, huh? Guess all we really need is to follow orders and do our jobs. Well, so how are we going to go about this?" Marent's voice sounded squeaky compared to Frojkal's.

Patrick had been pulling hard on the chair, and after the fourth pull, crashed into the wall with the chair's legs pushing into his chest harshly in four different places. He bit his lip to keep himself from yelling, and Jerry chuckled and grabbed the chair off of Patrick.
"Ow! Stupid chair... what idiot puts a chair that small in here?? Do we have a midget on our team, or what?!" Patrick yelled at the chair, and then kicked it under one of the shelves that lined the strategy room, the crash making Frojkal look up and then stare at Patrick, his stare making Patrick look left and right several times and become jittery.
"Um, um, um, I'm just gonna look at the map, ok? Yeah." Patrick said, his voice quivering slightly, shook a little as if a bug had crawled up his Rogue shirt, and then went over to study the map.
"Now if we're all done here... can we discuss what we're going to do out there?" O'Hinal stood on the other side of Frojkal, and to the right of Patrick.
"...Hmm. By the looks of it, I would say... that Route 3, Sector 15, Rooms 1, 4, 9, 10, and 15, are the best way to go about this deal."
"And how do you know? I didn't even get that. Sectors? Routes?" Marent sighed, beginning to walk around the table and the rest of the thieves countless times.
"It's a castle, not some three-room store, stick man. It's much more complicated. Frojkal, Route 3 is fine, but Sector 15 is too dangerous. There's always guards there at sunrise..." O'Hinal looked at Frojkal, not fazed by his piercing stare.
"Well. Do you... have a better idea, O'Hinal?"
"Yeah. Try Sector 9, Rooms 3, 6, 9, 11, and 13."
"This is seriously going to be awesome, Jerry. I'm excited! We get to loot at sunrise! When the light's supposed to be welcoming the King of Vanity, there's also light showing empty treasure chests!" Patrick and Jerry hooted, making and did a high-five. Frojkal looked at them, and they shrugged sheepishly and murmured to each other.

"I see. Deal code KC-R3-S9-T3, 6, 9, 11, 13. Right. That makes... sense." Frojkal looked at the ceiling.
"You're sure as sugar it does! Now, I'm gonna go upstairs and get ready. It's only about a half hour 'til we start working on the Rising Sun Deal. Marent, Patrick, Hairy? You coming?" O'Hinal took out a knife and tossed it around, trying to juggle it without cutting himself. He walked out of the strategy room, and then a clatter was heard, followed by O'Hinal cursing and picking up the knife that fell.
The faces of Marent and Patrick lit up, and then they ran outside, while Jerry scoffed, his eyes closing together to form a glare.
"It's Jerry! Not Hairy! Jeez, everybody's a critic." He walked out of the room to follow the other three, leaving Frojkal alone in the room.

"Well, I don't know what time it could possibly be, I'm basically sitting in a room that has nearly sub-standard living conditions, and I have nothing to do. Plus I'm basically trapped in a sort of twisted nightmare!" Sonia punched the wall with her fist, and then opened the door and looked out into the uninviting, dim hallway.
She had more than one key, she noticed. Of course it had the key to her room, but on the key ring, there were five other keys. Four of them were silver and all had different key patterns, but the fifth was a golden-colored one that sparkled in the torch's light.
"Hmm... I like this key... for some reason, it feels like this key could make me happy." Sonia took a closer look at the key; this one was very detailed, with a dragon's head engraved on the top, the pupils very small in the middle of the cornea, fire curving out from its mouth in seven directions, while its scaly body slid down the key and hugged the slender part of the key, its forked tail becoming the edge of the key.
"I wonder what this could unlock... it belonged to Levantris, so it obviously has something to do with him!" Sonia's steps could be heard in the hallway as she walked in it.

While the thieves were getting ready for the Rising Sun Deal, and while Sonia was keen on finding what the golden key unlocked, Levantris, the Senior Thief, the center of the gang, was in another world.
"He said, 'First you have to lose yourself.'" His voice was humane in all sense of the word; it was no longer emotionless, its sound echoing through the air.
"Then I thought for a minute he might've been telling me wrong."
"But I was swayed by his words and then they took me in... I don't remember what happened next, except I woke up here, with the black scar."
Levantris stood before a white-robed figure, its blonde hair barely protruding from the top of the wrinkles from it. It was looking down, and was pointing to the left, although there was nothing to look at or even notice. You couldn't really tell if the figure was male or female. The body was slim as a vine and as pure as a gleaming river, but its right arm was crossing over its chest, preventing Levantris from telling the difference.
All around him was black nothingness, but he and the robed figure were lit up, as if by spotlights.
"There's nothing out there. You and I should both know what's out there. Will this ever end?"
The figure never spoke, but an icy, lucid wind flew through Levantris's mind, and he perked his head up and understood.
"But... I guess I can't disagree." Levantris sighed, and looked down at the light that outlined his body.
His voice began to break, the emotion bursting through his ship of security like a wall of water through a shattered hull. He felt warm tears flow from his eyes, and they drifted away into nothing, while he looked up at the figure, lowly and meek.
"When will we... meet again?" he sputtered out.
The white figured whirled around and the light swerved to match, as if it had been insulted by what he had just said.
Suddenly Levantris felt a diamond shoot through his heart, and he woke up in his room, coated in sweat.
