“You must really be one of *them*, then. That’s the only way you could figure this out with so little information. What I don’t get, though, is why you’d walk into it so early. We were planning to—“
“Shut it! I’m not in the mood to hear your stupid plan, since it’s already worked. But you have to think, before you drop on me from wherever, that I can’t die a thief’s death. Go ahead. Try me, O’Hinal. I’d like to see how good you are before we make this a real battle.” Levantris spun around, but all he saw was blackness. He really wouldn’t be able to see where anything was, at least not until he turned the battle into one that actually mattered…
“Then… shall we get this on, then?” Frojkal’s soothing voice came from directly above Levantris, and suddenly a blade came rushing down the back of Levantris’* neck, cutting it cleanly and going straight into his spinal cord. Despite having a puncture wound that would have killed anyone else, Levantris took out two unusually long Rune knives and whirled them around, ready to fight a pair of enemies that he couldn’t see or hear until they came close.
“I wasn’t kidding, O’Hinal! Try harder!” Levantris whirled around in a series of spins, throwing knives in random directions. He could hear that the knives only missed and hit the brick walls, and fell on the ground. Then, as he expected, another blade shot through the darkness and caught him in the eye socket, spilling blood in the darkness. But he took no notice of it and immediately ripped the knife out and threw it backwards, and he knew it hit a target when he heard it puncture skin and not wall.
“Ow! Oh, you got lucky there! But come on, show me a real battle, Levantris! You can** keep this immortal thing on forever, at least without revealing it to everyone else in Varrock, and soon enough, Gielinor!” O’Hinal yelled from the direction that Levantris had thrown the knife in.

“The thunder has*’t sounded yet! So either keep coming at me or just stay still so I can slice you up and send you to Zaros where you belong!” Levantris shouted in a manner that would’ve shocked anyone else, but O’Hinal did*’t lose his nerve for even a second. Before Levantris could have time to counter, he felt someone tackle him with intense force and put him on the ground, while a knife dug into his head multiple times.
“Had enough?! Is that enough pain, huh?!” Frojkal’s raspy voice came from above Levantris. He must have been a proficient wrestler if he could pin Levantris down to the ground so well, but Levantris felt that things were just beginning in terms of epic events. The blade that kept goring his head open felt numb and like a plush hammer rather than a sharp blade, but as he heard the thunder, everyone knew that things were just going to get to their height.
“Now, we fight for real!!” Levantris screamed as he ignited the black light from his hand, and it enclosed the three immediately. For some reason, however, his visibility barely improved, and O’Hinal and Frojkal’s bodies were black, fuzzy shapes among the darkness of the alley which had barely lightened. It was obvious to Levantris, though, even though he hadn’t counted on them being so powerful to be able to cloud the battlefield with dark energy.
“So, this is the real you. I’d always been wanting to see what was within that odd heart of yours, Levantris.” O’Hinal’s voice hadn’t changed a bit, but it now flowed through Levantris’s mind as clear as the sun that had been blocked out by the storm that signaled the beginning of the Night of Black Winds.
He brandished the golden sword that he had used in the battle with the Jipalar Guard leader, who had turned out to be a huge Earth warrior with some strong attacks, but a poor strategy. As soon as he slashed towards Frojkal, he faded and turned into gas, and shrouded Levantris in it.

It made him feel drowsy and dizzy, but since he had fought harder battles before, he immediately dove out of the paralyzing cloud and turned the sword into a long white scimitar, that ran the length of his chest. As soon as he had done that, O’Hinal leapt in front of him and made a fake slash at him to try and confuse him, but Levantris was too good to fall for a trick like that, and whirled around O’Hinal and tripped him with the long scimitar.
But, he did*’t stop there. As soon as he tripped *’Hinal, he made a motion to strike the cloud that was Frojkal, but he floated back before the white blade cut through him. What he noticed, though, was that the black, fuzzy shape faded a little when O’Hinal hit the ground, and their bodies began to be more visible. Frojkal turned from a cloud into a tornado, and attempted to take Levantris in, but he rode the current around him and flew into O’Hinal, who had just gotten up in time to block the fierce attack. O’Hinal hit the wall, and about half the darkness had faded from his body.
“You’re actually good! Who would have thought, huh?! Alright, that’s it! Time to *really* make it hurt!!” O’Hinal screamed, a scream that was loud enough to push Levantris back and blow his hearing for a while. He flew into Frojkal, who had still assumed the form of a tornado, and got caught up in his maw.
“Careful, now… don’* want to die here, do you?” his voice was still as soothing as ever, despite the terrible winds that he used to throw Levantris against the brick wall, cracking it and giving him a broken nose and a sprained arm.
“I’m not going down just yet…!” he panted as he turned the scimitar into a halberd that resembled a lengthened Dragon Longsword. He took the blade in hand and made a sweeping diagonal slash, that caught Frojkal in the middle of the tornado’s funnel and threw the body of Frojkal onto the ground, with a severe cut to his side.

But what interested Levantris the most was the fact that the black had completely faded from him, and revealed a man with hair that would make Jerry envious even on his best hair day. This man was thin as a snake, and his forked tongue hung out lazily as his clawed hand reached to rub his head, which was smooth and colored a deep purple.
The halberd swerved over and was caught by O’Hinal, who thrust it back into Levantris’s face. Levantris barely noticed this and his ear was cut by the time he evaded the counterattack and had managed to regain control of his weapon.
“Now, I’d like you to meet the person who’ll continue my work of making you suffer!” Levantris yelled as he growled towards the halberd, and it glowed yellowish-red. He swung it as hard and as accurate as he could, and O’Hinal’s hand was cut off as the blade caught Frojkal full on in the heart. His snake’s body glowed with the same light as the blade, and then evaporated into nothing, leaving Levantris panting heavily.
It wasn’t easy to use that property of the halberd, and his adrenaline had probably gotten the best of him for a while. But O’Hinal did*’t strike him immediately, as he could feel the air being thrown out of him as his darkness cloak faded from him and revealed his true form: a fatherly figure that resembled someone that he had killed a long time ago when he just a novice Nortirplean. He had a full head of brown hair, and was as dark-skinned as a Karamja native.
However, this guy was dressed in an interesting set of armor, that was just like the one of the man that Levantris had slain long ago, except it was colored differently and looked lighter.
“So… you’re related to that old geezer? Sweet. Thought I’d killed you all off a long time ago, but I guess not!” Levantris took the halberd which had now become the golden sword he started off with, and proceeded to slice O’Hinal’s head right off, but then he suddenly stopped while he was two inches from his neck.

“Ughhhh! Aaaaah! Raaaaraaah!” Levantris felt an immense force squeezing his head, and he was screaming in pain as he fell on his knees, dropping his sword to try to bear the pain. If he hadn’t been into the battle so much, he would’ve known that that would’ve happened to him, but now it was a complete shock to him.
O’Hinal finally managed to regain his breath, although his strength was nowhere near what it was earlier. He could no longer jump all around the walls and throw whole swords with unbelievable speed and accuracy, but he could at least fight like a normal, mundane warrior. Although the fact that Levantris seemed to be having a killer migraine right now confused him, that did*’t stop from taking his golden sword while he was still trying to bear the pain.
“Please don’t be too patient. I want to get what belongs to me.” a voice echoed through O’Hinal’s mind, and through he couldn’t understand its tone or even its language, he somehow managed to decipher those words. The voice was neither happy nor sad, but it sounded like it cared about Levantris somehow. The thing that bothered O’Hinal the most was how it seemed to act so placid yet powerful when it spoke.
“Well, it looks like this is the end for you, Nortirplean! You’re finally getting what you deserve for shaming me!” O’Hinal took the sword in one hand, and whirled around to deliver a fatal slash right at Levantris’* neck. It cut through effortlessly, but the blood that came out wasn’t anything like O’Hinal expected. It was a bright, bright red, but there was so little of it that he thought it might’ve almost all been siphoned out somehow by a parasite.
The gang rushed out at a speed that was beautiful, at least for thieves. Sonia could believe that they were called “Black Winds”, as they seemed to move with the grace and fluidity of wind into the bleak, stormy night.

She just wanted the night to end already, as every second standing in that torrential rain reminded her of that fateful night twenty years ago.
“Well, I don’t know what you have planned for me, but I’m sure that *this* wasn’t it!!” Sonia yelled to the black sky, angry at the gods for having placed her in this situation. Although she would probably get somewhat used to it after a long while, she still would hate it deep inside. If there ever was a time where she would hate it most, it would right now, on the anniversary of her parents’ death and of her orphanage.
As thunder rumbled across the skies, a huge spark of lightning suddenly came not twenty feet from Sonia and struck the ground, lighting up the area with a blinding light for a split second. But in that split second, Sonia saw that there was an alley, and that there was blood slowly being washed out by the rain. She only assumed that an unfortunate civilian or guard had fallen in the fight, but she couldn’t remember anyone ever coming out of that alley before, or ever going into it…
‘I’m not going over there. For all I know, I could be seeing exactly what happened to my father over there, and I sure don’* want that! I’m staying right here!’ Sonia tried to back against the metal door to try and get some shelter, but it was no use. She was still being pelted relentlessly by the rain.
As time passed by, nothing changed except for the fact that it got wetter and wetter, and that Sonia began to get more frustrated and exasperated with the situation. She thought it would’ve gone on until morning, until a black light, darker than anything else and only about the size of her head, darted towards her like it was going to kiss her.
She couldn’t dodge it in time, and it seemed to latch onto her face and drag her in midair across the street and into the alley.

‘Stupid Byrexian. That idiot said he’d killed ‘em all, but I guess one of them killed him instead… oh well!’ the voice that Sonia had remembered from the huge storm out on their way to Jipalar suddenly spoke again, and some part of her seemed to agree with whatever the voice was saying, even if it made no sense at all.
The bug-like light let go of her face after the voice spoke, and Sonia saw that it expanded in a heartbeat, enclosing everything and making everything turn lighter. If she had time to look at herself, she would have been surprised, as she was something that looked half human, half phoenix. Her head was that of a bird’s, and it shown with crimson flames whose tips resembled feather. Her arms and legs had become like whitish-red wings of flame, but her torso was that of a human’*.
What *she* saw, though, was a headless Levantris lying on the ground, with a shockingly small amount of blood coming from it. Immediately, she ran over to it, but as soon as she did, she noticed that a strange warrior sat against the wall, holding the head of Levantris and laughing at it horridly, making cruel jokes to his face.
After she saw this, the black light faded to nothing, and she was enclosed in pitch darkness, unable to see anything. But the laughing still continued, and it was the same horrid laugh that came from the figure that was sitting against the wall, and as soon as he spoke, Sonia recognized who he was:
“Who’s afraid of puny little Levie? Who’s afraid of puny little Levie? Ha ha, not me, that’s who!” O’Hinal cackled even more grotesquely than before, and Sonia immediately reached for her dagger and stabbed towards where O’Hinal’s voice was coming from.
She was satisfied as the dagger found his flesh, but one upwards jerk on the dagger indicated that she had probably only punctured his arm or his hip, and that he was ready to retaliate against his sudden attacker.

To Sonia*s horror, she could hear Levantris’s head hit the ground with a solid thud as O’Hinal rose.
“What?! Who?! Is it one of you idiot guards with too much curiosity?” O’Hinal pushed Sonia back into where there was more light, and Sonia barely managed to keep hold of her weapon as he did.
“Or is it… Sonia?! You?! You can’t know of this!” O’Hinal immediately brandished one of his knives and threw it at her, and it was only by sheer adrenaline that Sonia managed to dodge such a short-ranged attack and counter well with a stab to O’Hinal’s side.
He said nothing more, and then proceeded to spin around Sonia in the extremely dim light and the ever-pouring rain. Sonia turned to face him and tried to parry his attack that seemed to come from three or four directions at once, but he was just too strong for her. The blades broke her guard and all seemed to sear into her neck, and she suffered a deep neck wound that wouldn’t ever heal. Her scream of agony was muted by the rain and O’Hinal’s own scream of pure rage, and she fell to the wet, muddy ground feeling life fading fast from her.
“I’m free! Finally, finally, free! Beware, Black Arms!” O’Hinal screamed out the words slowly, so that he could pour every ounce of his grudge against the rain. There was something in his screams that wasn’t human. It sounded not like a demon’*, but like a strange creature that was somewhat calmed by rage.
“You’ll come to regret the day you ever wronged me!! This world won’t be right until every traitor has paid for their offenses!!” as soon as he shouted that, he sprinted off into the night, going south.
Sonia choked out, her voice gargling with blood as she felt the dark world grow ever darker, and the pounding rain begin to feel numb on her skin.

“Finally… finally the end for me. And of all... nights to die on… the same one of… my parents. Wait for me… wait for me. I’ll… I’ll…”
But before Sonia could say the rest of her final words, she faded away entirely, and the rain and the sky became nothing but a lost memory now. She only felt satisfied that she was finally able to join her parents after such a long time of being without them, and the memories of Levantris, O’Hinal, Thessalia, and the Black Arms all faded into the night,
The Night of Black Winds.
