The thief was just about to exit the remains of the home, when he heard something open. He turned around, and there was a little girl with mouse-brown hair, about the age of four, standing near a secret alcove in the wall. She stared at the thief, crying silently and apparently awaiting her own death.
He knew he had to kill survivors. But... this was just a little girl! He couldn't bring himself to kill an innocent so small! He went up to the little girl, and shoved her back in the wall, but not too forcefully.
He added in a soft, compassionate voice before he left,
"Please, don't ever join up with this gang... keep your life safe!"

^v~| Chapter 1: Sonia |~v^
"There! Do you like it?" Sonia said with a smile on her face as she held up the pink, silky dress she had finished making.
"Let me see...." Thessalia took hold of the dress and began to examine it like a hawk, taking note of every little thread and every way that Sonia had used to put it together. Her solemn expression turned to a warm one as she said to Sonia in a meaningful voice,
"This is really good, Sonia! You've really improved since you started this! I'm going to sell this in my shop."
"Thanks, Thessie! You don't mind if I go outside for a while?"
"No, that's fine. Just be back in time for dinner, I've ordered some delicious anchovy pizza!"
Sonia walked outside from the workshop of Thessalia's clothing store, through the main part where Thessalia sold all the clothes, and out into the fresh air of Varrock Square, where adventurers and merchants alike stood shouting random things, selling and buying merchandise.
She noticed a neat tan-haired man in Rune armor staring at her longingly from across the large fountain that marked the center of Varrock.
She thought, "Oh no, not another one....I better go deal with him before the drool floods the city."
She walked over, annoyed, to the man, where he was still gawking across the fountain, apparently lost in thought.
Sonia slapped the man on the cheek, which caused him to cry out and rub his face, but as soon as he was done with that and looked to see who did it, he fell into a trance again and a drop of water leaked from his mouth and made a tiny splotch on the ground.
"Oh, come on! You're pathetic! Men like you deserve to be shut in the King's jail for eternity while their eyes are sown shut!" She whirled her leg out and made a sweeping motion with it, tripping the man over and causing him to fall and hit his head on the fountain, which knocked him out cold.
"Besides, I have better things to attend to..." Sonia said seriously as she walked south.

It wasn't really that irregular. Men always did stupid things like that over her. Not that they all did, but it happened so often it felt like all men were superficial pigs bent on getting nothing but satisfaction. Just because she had lovely brown hair and a slim body with a river-clear complexion didn't give them the right to embarrass themselves in public. But... she just had to live with it.
Sonia walked south towards the general store, where many people came to trade their goods. The poor store keeper and his assistant rarely ever got sleep with the traders coming in all the time, talking about random things that they themselves never understood. But it was how you earned a living in Varrock; you worked day and night or ended up like the Tramp further down the road, a man who had been fired from every job and was left to beg for money on the streets.
She entered the general store, slipping through rowdy, dirty men who were all trying to talk to the shop keeper at once. She wanted to read the newsboard that was posted at the back of the store. It held odd jobs that rarely anyone ever undertook, such as drawing hearts on the trees outside the city so that people could see that trees had feelings too.
"Great, let's see what they have here..." Sonia said to herself as she read what was posted on the board.
One article said:
I need a person to come scrub the goo off of my wall. I think something exploded yesterday and it's starting to smell. Please contact Patrick near the Rune shop for more information.
"Weird! But not my thing. I don't want to smell like strange goo for three days."
Another article was:
Want to experience the time of your life?
Have a problem with everyone thinking you're an annoying nuisance whose only purpose is taking up space?
Have a death wish?
Come to the Wilderness! I promise that in less than 3 minutes, you'll feel very different!
"Yeah. I don't wanna die, you idiot."

The third article was littered with so many food stains, that it was very difficult to even tell if letters were letters! What was readable came out as:
G-t a fr-sh c--k r-g-ht -- m- -ou-se in -imm--g-on! I -m v--y ea--r to -ork f-r pay --is ti-e! M- rat-s -r- -er- ne-ot-ab-e!
-.S. T-e foo- st-ins a-e bei-- w--ked on....I-m -ot ---y -l-an, b-t - wo-k -ard!
"Whoa, dude. Seriously, have you heard of napkins??"
And the fourth was written in some other language that wasn't even understandable. It was all full of strange, wavy symbols.
Sonia was about to give up. All the ads were either too stupid or something she didn't feel like undertaking. But as she about to turn around and leave, a man in full Adamant armor got slammed into the wall next to the bulletin board and fell on the floor like a fallen building.
"And that's what you get for messing with me, punk!" A woman with black hair, Black Dragonhide, and even a black Magic Shortbow screamed at him. It caused everyone to be quiet for about half a minute, and then the shop keeper managed to stutter out,
"M-ma'am? Please l-leave. You're s-s-scaring my c-customers..."
"Hmm*h! Fine! But let the record show that that man over there is a weakling who thinks he's better than everyone else!" The woman stamped out of the store, pushing over a large shelf as she went, and then a few seconds later an arrow flew into the store, narrowly missing people and hitting the grounded man's helmet, which caused the arrow to reflect off of it and knock the bulletin board off the wall. A curse was heard from outside, and then life resumed as normal, the assistant picking up the toppled shelf with the help of another person, and the man who had been assaulted began to get up and dust himself off, muttering something and then leaving the store.
Sonia was about to put the bulletin board back up, when she noticed a strange, brown note that blended in with the background of the board, taped to the back of it.

The strange note didn't have any text on it. It was just a piece of paper, by the looks of it! But there must've been a reason as to why it was pinned to the back of the board...A sneaky one, too.
Sonia put the mahogany note in her pocket and walked out of the general store. She went around the city, observing the strange goo that turned out to be a watermelon that a clumsy mage had melted with a botched fire spell, a hooded man sitting on the benches near the fountain that decorated the area around the eastern bank flipping gold coins into the fountain, a empty beer bottle laying on the grass near Horvik's armory, and the Tramp clinging to another man's leg and crying as he sputtered things like "Please give me something" or "Saradomin will help you if you help me" or other beggar cries as the man kicked him off and bound him to the ground for a while with an Entangle spell.
Overall, nothing was really different. Same old, same old.
Sonia returned to Thessalia's for dinner. She was really looking forward to that anchovy pizza Thessie said she had ordered for them!

(-^~ Chapter 2: From Day to Night ~^-)
"Mmmmm! That looks like some really good pizza there!" Sonia reached into the box and tried to grab a slice of steaming anchovy pizza, but Thessalia grabbed her wrist and then grabbed the slice that Sonia was reaching for.
"Hey! That was mine!"
"Ha ha, should've used your other hand then..." Thessalia chuckled, sat down on an oak chair, and began to eat the slice of anchovy pizza.
"Whatever." Sonia grabbed another piece from the box, sat down on another chair and started to eat.
"Ohhhhh... this... is... heavenly!" Thessalia letting out sighs of pleasure between bites.
"Yeah, it's great. Where'd you order this from?"
"Aye, I went and ordered it from the Chefs' Guild myself!"
"Seriously? How much did that cost??" Sonia flipped her hair behind her and got another piece of pizza from the box.
"Umm... you promise not to explode when I tell you...?"
"Sure... how much was the pizza?" Sonia questioned, struggling to tear off a stubborn piece of pizza from its sliced host.
"...400 Gold Pieces."
Sonia dropped the half-eaten piece of the pizza on the floor and stared at Thessalia as if she had just told her that a giant flying monkey ate the top of the King's castle. Her mouth has open, a small yellow piece of pizza hanging from her lips and her eyes showing that she was amazed.
"You. Are. Not. Serious!"
"I am." Thessalia started to move her eyes off to the side and threw an innocent look to Sonia.
"Oh, don't give me that! Who pays that much for one pizza?!" Sonia got up from the chair and her voice started to sound mad.
"Um... overpriced adventurers who could care less about money and more about love and monsters?"
"I don't care!! You didn't have to pay that much! Seriously, we've never even made 400 Gold Pieces selling clothes in 24 hours, and you blow our hard work on a pizza!"

"I'm sorry! But I couldn't help myself! Why do you think we're still here in this small shop after 20 years?!" Thessalia slammed her fist on the table and got up to look Sonia in the face, tension beginning to form between the two for the first time in months.
"Oh! So it's you that's been whisking all our profits away! You always told me that you were investing in a better place, and all this time you've been throwing it away on self-indulgence!" Sonia was really mad now; a vein in her head was beginning to pop out and a bead of sweat began to flow like molasses down the back of her neck.
Thessalia was silent. She didn't know what to say to try and counter what Sonia had said. Indeed, it was true, she was self-centered and it hadn't changed in 20 years. It was all true... and all so painful. She lost her rage and began to hang her head in shame, tears beginning to flow down her face.
Sonia began to calm down as well. She was expecting this to turn into a fist-fight where the Guards of Varrock would probably break it up if they weren't already dealing with the adventurers that loved to kill them every minute of the day. This isn't what she expected. She didn't really want to hurt Thessalia that badly...
"Listen!" her voice was still strong, but it was no longer mad. "If you want to make it better for both of us... try and stop yourself when you know you're going to do it again. You're the only one who can break that bad habit, you know. Too bad the idiots who gape at me in futile hopes of getting me can't listen to that..."
"Ha ha. Another one tries it today?" Thessalia looked up and began to wipe the tears off of her face, a smile beginning to spread its way across her face.
"My gosh. The man was still staring across the fountain when I came over, then I slapped him, he turned around, and what do you know, he turns into a drooling dog the next second. So I trip him over, he hits his head on the fountain, and that's it."

"Ha ha ha! Seriously?"
"Yes. Now. If you're not going to eat the rest of that pizza, let me have it."
"Alright."
After dinner was finished, the two went back to their jobs, selling clothes and doing makeovers. Night fell, and Thessalia was measuring the length of a pair of pants when she yawned and then said to Sonia,
"Ah. You go to sleep. I'll take the night shift tonight." Thessalia took the pants off of the table and threw them to the adventurer that had requested them. The adventurer smiled, put 10 Gold Pieces in her hand, and walked out of the store.
"Alright, thanks. See you later when I wake up!" Sonia walked past the workshop and into the bedroom, where there were beds, one that was decorated with many ribbons, dyed sheets, and a headboard that had many pictures of people that were probably Thessalia's family. Sonia'* bed was just a pillow with a bed frame, a mattress, and a couple of plain white sheets, but at least she could go to sleep on it.
She sat down on the bed and pulled open the wooden wardrobe that was next to it. She had sown all her own clothes, so her wardrobe was pretty well off considering all the items were made just for her. She took out the mahogany note, threw it on the bed, and changed into her night clothes and jumped into the bed and opened up the note. Still nothing.
Sonia went and closed the door, and then put the note on the table next to the candle. She blew out the candle, and tried to go to sleep in the darkness, but she couldn't for some reason. She tossed and turned between the sheets, until she noticed that a strange green light was emitting from where the note had been. She picked up the note, opened it, and the light was in the form of letters, and she gasped and lit the candle.
The green light disappeared. She blew out the candle, and then the green light, along with the letters, reappeared.

"Strange... this must have really been a secret message for it to only be readable in the dark..." Sonia looked closer at the note.
The green, glowing writing began to take on a life of its own, burning and rearranging positions so that the message displayed was changeable.
It said:
"Who are you? And what do you want with this note?"
Sonia moved her upper body away from the note and looked away to the side.
"This really is a secret note! First the glow-in-the-dark writing, and now it's alive! Must be someone controlling the writing with some form of magic! I... I guess it won't hurt to at least answer the note until it starts talking about strange, horrific things like death threats in the back of an alley, where some large hooded figure tears you apart piece by piece and uses the pieces for very, very gross things..."
She opened the note, and the writing had rearranged itself again, saying:
"Well? Why do you have this note?"
Sonia whispered to the note,
"I found it on the back of the bulletin board of the general store. I thought it might've been interesting to read..."
The green letters moved around, merged, split in thousands of directions, and took their place next to each other again.
"Really? Well. I suspect you are a regular townsperson, with no real care for the underground?"
"The underground...? What do you mean by that...?"
"I'll take that as a no then. Ok. Without giving away all the real stuff, the underground is the secret network of trade and commerce in RuneScape. You know. Thieves and such."
"Thieves? You mean those sick idiots who run around looting stuff and dancing like foolish Imps when they get something worthwhile?"
"Hey! You don't know the half of it! Thieves aren't as bad as you think they are... I have a feeling you're one of those silly, hypocritical people who say they're good and help the community, but have all these inconspicuous faults that make their lives miserable."

"So what are you, a thief?"
The letters burned up on the paper for a minute, but the paper itself did not catch fire.
"Maybe I am. What are you?"
Sonia put her face closer to the note and the burning green letters, and nearly shouted at it,
"Thieves killed my parents when I was only a small child! I hate them all!"
"A survivor? How lucky of you. But my time is almost up with you. The magic is beginning to fade. If you wish, we will... converse... again, tomorrow night."
"If you are a thief, I don't have any business with you, and I never will."
"Fine. Farewell."
The glowing green letters faded from the brown paper, and all was dark again.
"Well, that was strange. I could have been possibly talking to a thief through a magical note. Ah well, as long as they're not trying to hunt me down, I guess it won't hurt this time. Now, to go to sleep. I've got a long day tomorrow."
Sonia put the magical mahogany note on the table next to the candle, turned over, and went to sleep.
