From sea to sea,
From words to blows,
From start to finish,
To the stars through difficulty.

PART ONE - THE SLAYING OF ELVARG

I hate water. No, scrap that, I hate the sea. The massive volume of salty water torments me. Back and forth, to and fro, it makes me sick.
I'm not sure why I get so seasick. It's funny, blood, guts, entrails and brains can be spread across the floor and I feel fine. Put me in water, and it's game over.
I was in the lower cabin of my new ship. I say new, but it was practically ancient. There was a mirror leaning against the port side wall, and I glanced into it.
A reflection glanced back. Six feet tall, with long black hair. Tied back right now. Dark brown eyes. And an unkept goatee beard, surrounded by stubble. Without ego, I can say I am fairly well built. Maybe more athletic than powerful. I shook myself from my thoughts and decided to go up onto the deck, where the old sea dog Ned was, having the time of his life. As I reached the soaking deck, I saw Ned with a huge grin on his face. He pointed to the west, and there it lay, Crandor Isle. A thick cloud hung above the island, almost serving as a warning sign to anyone foolish enough to approach it.

"How long?" I asked Ned, almost not wanting to hear his answer.
"One hour," he replied, his old hands trying their very best to maintain the ship's course.

The path to Crandor started a few weeks ago, when I tried to purchase a Rune Plate Body.
"Prove yourself first!" the merchant had told me.
Ever since then I had been running around in mazes, killing Lesser Demons, making bowls, bribing goblins and repairing ships. All this for some armour.

The worse was yet to come however, I had to slay Elvarg. Elvarg is a Dragon, and I hate Dragons as much as the sea. Elvarg isn't just any old Dragon though. Oh no, apparently she is a 'Queen amongst Dragons'.
I had a feeling in the pit of my stomach that this wasn't going to go well.

I checked my Anti Dragon Fire Shield, wondering how it was resistant to fire, and wishing I had armour made entirely of this strange substance.

I then heard Ned scream, and as I looked up in his direction, we were both flung to the floor.
My head cracked against the deck, and I blacked out.

-------

"Wake up you fool, we're here. The ship has been destroyed though."
Coughing up sea water, I sat up to see Ned walking around a beach surveying the wreckage that was once my ship.
I cursed under my breath and stood upright.
"What happened?" I asked Ned.
"What do you think? We've crashed. But at least we're here," he replied scornfully.
"Here, you'll be needing these," he said, tossing my Rune Scimitar and Dragon Fire Shield in my direction. I picked them up, muttered a word of thanks and set about climbing this horrid mountain.

"What a disgusting island..." I thought to myself as I traveled onward. There were hobgoblins and lesser demons freely roaming about, and a foul stench clung to the air. The smell was vaguely familiar, like burnt meat. Most likely the smell of Elvarg's victims.
The path ahead was dangerous. Rocks and tree roots all seemed to plot against me, forming natural barriers that all needed to be tackled with caution.

After around an hour of clambering over rocks and through bushes, I spied an entrance to a cave, guarded by a lesser demon.
I grabbed a rock and threw it past him. Now, lesser demons are not too bright, as this one proved. He walked to the direction of the rock and I took my chance. I ran toward the opening and entered the lair of Elvarg.

The stench was ten times worse in here, I began to feel sick again. The sea seemed like a warm embrace compared to this.

As I made my way through the cave, it became apparent that man had once inhabited this island. There were brick walls and cages here, almost as if this was once a prison.

There was one cell that caught my eye, however. The cell door was on the left hand side of a passage, and a dull glow was emanating from it.
I could also hear the sound of footsteps. Not ordinary footsteps however, these were too heavy. Only a dragon could make that much noise, and I realised that I was here, at long last, in the lair of Elvarg.
I took a deep breath and readied myself. This was the first time I had ever came face to face with a dragon, let alone fight one.

I decided not to rush in, the charred and black remains of at least three warriors clinging to the cell gates was enough to confirm that it would not be wise to attack Elvarg head on.

Instead I decided that stealth may be a little easier, and crept towards the cell. I reached the gate and peered through. I wondered what was strong enough to imprison Elvarg here, or maybe Elvarg simply decided to live here on her own free will? In any case, I was not about to ask about her living habits, and watched her movements closely.
I've always thought of dragons as majestic creatures, and Elvarg, despite being evil to the bone, certainly paid homage to my thoughts. Her scales slightly reflected the dull glow of the torches that lined the walls, seeming like she was a living, moving mirror. She had enormous wings, a massive tail, and teeth sharper than any blade known to me.
I almost felt sorry that I had to kill her, but her evil was well known across the land.
She must fall, even if my own reasons were entirely selfish.

Elvarg had her back turned to me, this was it, my best chance of killing this beast.

I started to open the gate slowly. It got just about wide enough to allow me through when it decided to creak. Curse these old hinges.

Elvarg spun around faster than anything I had seen before, her movements were fluid and rapid, intentional and deadly. She swiped at me with her massive claws, knocking me into a wall.

The wind was knocked out of me, but at least the claws had not penetrated my armour. She took another swing at me, this one I seen coming, and ducked out of the way, slashing at her. As my sword pierced the beast's flesh, she let out a thunderous roar, and I could see her next move in her eyes.
A torrent of flames leapt forth from her mouth as I raised my shield to protect myself.
The heat was immense, never before had I felt heat like this! My shield was standing strong however, and as the flames finally died down, I rushed at Elvarg, ducking under another strike, this time I managed to slice at her chest.
The damage wasn't substantial, but enough to make Elvarg think about her next attack. I took the opportunity to hack at the injured front leg, making the wound even worse.
What I didn't see coming was her tail, she clubbed me to the floor, sending me sprawling awkwardly.
I raised my shield to block another breath of fire.
This Dragon was strong, smart and very resourceful. I readied myself for another attack.

As I lowered my shield, I looked at Elvarg.

Her left front leg was badly cut, and blood was seeping out of the wound on her chest. I checked myself, the damage I had taken from her tail becoming obvious, I had a damaged leg also, and I could feel burning in my hands. Despite the usefulness of my shield, holding it was taking it's toll on me.

Elvarg could apparently sense my thoughts, as she let out yet another torrent of fire.
I hid behind my shield once more, feeling the burns getting worse. I decided this was it, all or nothing, right now.
I held my shield with one arm against the flames and ran at Elvarg. I knew what was coming, she could not attack with her front legs anymore, her left was too damaged, and would not support her weight should she decide to attack with her right. This left only her mouth, and her tail. I decided to take both out at the same time.

She swung her tail at me, which I dodged, and took a swing at Elvarg's eyes. My blade pierced the soft flesh and Elvarg screamed. I stabbed at her remaining eye, once more feeling the squelch of soft flesh.
I then hacked at her right leg, cutting her down.
She crashed to the floor, her tail and wings going limp.

She let out yet another breath of fire, I didn't even have to defend against this, her aim was flawed.
She was crippled, blind, and at my mercy. She knew this and seemed to give in, turning her head so I could cut her throat.

"I'm sorry," I said weakly as I ended Elvarg’s life.

"Sorry" didn't seem to do this creature justice. Despite Elvarg's evil ways, I had respect for her.
Who is to say what is evil in this world anyway? Elvarg was only evil by our standards, perhaps it is the actions of men that made the Dragon Race evil in the first place.
'Who are we to judge?' I thought to myself as I left Elvarg's tomb.

I found a secret passage as I left Crandor, that lead into the volcano of Karamja.

I wearily made my way to Edgeville via Draynor, apparently Ned had made it back in one piece and was alive and well, with the help of a passing whale. I asked no further questions.

The merchant in Edgeville seemed surprised to see me.
"Wow, you actually slain Elvarg?"
"Yes. Now have I proven myself to you? Has enough blood been spilt in my name to allow me worthiness of wearing your armour???"
The merchant grinned and handed me the Rune Plate Body.
"You truly are a noble warrior," he said as I put on the armour.
"Whatever," I replied, walking away.

I decided to wear my Rune Plate Body as a tribute to Elvarg, and the battle I had with her.

I wondered what repercussions I would have to deal with in the future after slaying A Queen Amongst Dragons. I'm sure her descendants would not be too happy with me. Still, that would be a story for another day. I still have to find the Lost City of Zanaris.

The End - For Now

DISCOVERING ZANARIS

Once again I find myself at the mercy of the sea. I have seen battles with dragons, ogres, warlords and demons, yet I am humbled at how the sea has the almighty power of making me feel as sick as a dog.

A monk approached me.
"How are you feeling?" he asked gently.
"I've been better," I replied.
"Don't worry, my child, we are nearly there."
I wearily stood up and looked around.

I was on a ship, heading for the Holy Island of Entrana. The Monks of Saradomin had kindly let me board their vessel, as long as I carried no weapons with me. I would have used my own ship, but Ned the sailor saw fit to destroy it on it's last voyage.

We were approaching the docks of Entrana, where even more brown robed monks were running around, awaiting the arrival of the ship. Entrana was a beautiful place to behold, lush greenery, wild animals roaming around as nature intended, and a monastery that even the Great Saradomin would be proud to sit within.
It was a bright, sunny day, I could feel the heat of the sun warming my skin. This made me feel a little better about the task at hand.

I was to find the Dramen Tree, cut off one of it's limbs and carve it into a staff. This staff would hold the magical properties required to find The Lost City of Zanaris, the realm of Fairies.

You may wonder how I came across this information dear reader. Well, it started a few days ago, near Draynor. I had been to see Ned. The ratchety old git was complaining about a small group of adventurers nearby, and the amount of noise they were making cutting trees down. I told him I would go talk to them, and off I went.

As I approached them, a few looked at me with narrow eyes. They seemed to be hiding something.
"What do you want?" asked a puny looking mage.

I ignored him and glanced at a rather attractive archer. She smiled in my direction. I was about to return the smile when a huge brutish warrior walked over to me and said "Are you looking for Zanaris too?"
Zanaris, the fabled 'Lost City'. Land of the fairies, and more importantly, (To me at least) where I could buy some Dragon Weaponry.
"Umm, yeah. That why you're here?" I asked.
"Yeeaahhh! We're trying to find the leprechaun, he's around here somewhere in a tree. He he! He'll tell us everything we need to know!"
Apparently this guy wasn't the sharpest tool in the box.
"Thanks," I said, and walked away.

I started to hack away at a few trees near to the warriors, and true to his claim, out popped a leprechaun, albeit very angry.

He told me everything I needed to know about Zanaris, and here I am, on a boat docking into Entrana.
I jumped off the boat onto terra firma. How I hate the sea!

"Hello. my son, how are you feeling?" asked a monk, noting my joy at being back on land.
"I'm fantastic, father!" I said gleefully.
"Great, now, what brings you here child?"
I'd nearly forgotten the task at hand.
"I'm looking for the Dramen Tree, father, where can I find it?"
The smile disappeared from the monk's face.
"You'll find the entrance to a cave to the north west of the island, but please, promise me you'll be careful, many like you have come here and died in that place."
"I'll be fine," I said with a smile, wondering what could be so dangerous about cutting a limb off a tree.
"May Saradomin be with you, child."
"Er, yeah, thanks..." I replied, starting the walk to the cave entrance.

The walk to the cave was a short but pleasant one, with bears, unicorns and a strange red chicken all keeping me company on this lovely island. This place seemed the exact opposite of Crandor. I shuddered thinking about that place, and decided to concentrate on the task at hand.

A nervous looking monk was patrolling around the entrance, or rather, a small hole in the ground. This was the place.

"You going down there??" he asked. "You can't come back up if you go down there!"
"Yeah, don't worry about me," I replied.
Really, these monks worry too much.

"The only way out is through the wilderness!"
This was the last thing I heard off the monk as I jumped into the cave below.
This concerned me a little, but not enough to stop me.
The cave was surprisingly well lit, the only apparent danger was a couple of zombies ambling around. It was then I spotted something I needed, one of these undead was carrying a bronze axe. I had no armour or weapons, the only choice was hand to hand. I readied my fists, and charged towards the zombie.
"Mwerggghhhhh!" the zombie moaned as I punched him squarely in the face. His disgusting flesh stuck to my fist as I pulled it away for another strike. Again I pounded into his face, this one cracking his rotten skull. He limply tried to defend himself, but I continued to punch away.
After 4 or so punches, I penetrated the horrid flesh and smashed into the inside of his skull.
The zombie went limp, and stopped moving.
I grabbed the axe out of his hands and made a run for it. I could see a bright light emanating from an alcove, directly opposite the alcove was a huge, nasty, evil black demon. Fantastic.
I kept running, narrowly avoiding a confrontation with the gigantic foe. I was beginning to see why the monks were so nervous about this place.
I ran into the alcove, and there it stood, shining brightly, the Dramen Tree.
It was a truly awe-inspiring piece of nature. Quite how it had managed to grow down here remained a mystery. It almost seemed a sinful act to tarnish it by removing a limb, but it needed to be done.
I readied my axe.

I swung my newly acquired tool and hit the tree solidly.
The temperature in the alcove dropped suddenly, and I was violently knocked to the floor by an unseen foe.

"You may not cut this tree until you have defeated me!" a voice boomed out, shrill and piercing.

I got to my feet to see a spirit in front of me.
I now fully understood the monk's apprehension about this place. I readied myself for battle. Quite how I was going to beat this foe unarmed and without armour eluded me, but I certainly did not want to die here, so close to my goal.

I had bought a few runes with me, nothing substantial, but they would help.
The spirit charged at me, and landed a punch right into my abdomen. He followed it up with another punch, this one straight into my face, I heard a crack and knew my nose had been broken.
I was floored again, but this time was prepared, and let off a Wind Strike. This hit the spirit directly, and sent him back into a wall.
It came at me again, but I managed to dodge its attack and landed a nice kick directly into it's chest. This barely phased it though, and it brought an elbow down onto my prone leg.
By cruel coincidence, this was the same leg that Elvarg had nearly broken, and I yelled out in agony.
I pulled away my leg and shot another wind strike at it, this sent it sprawling again.
We eyed each other from across small space we were in.
I readied myself once more.

The spirit was grinning, why I didn't know, but I did not like it one bit.
It's like he could of sensed my panic. I looked around for anything to defend myself with. The only thing was the bronze axe, still embedded within the tree. I ran towards it, and yanked it out.
This was better than nothing. I shot out another wind blast, hitting the spirit as it charged at me again. It kept coming though, and we engaged in melee once more.
I ducked under one of its attacks, not wanting to feel it's power once again, and swung my axe.
