Lydia stood up and walked over to me. "You are in a cell, in the base of operations. Like us you made a grave error. You poked your nose where it don't belong."
She was right, I had been too nosy, and it had cost me my freedom. And, perhaps my life. Maybe even Rose's...
Justin and Lydia both suddenly looked very alert, and were both staring at the cell door. I could hear footsteps approaching, sounded like they were descending a set of steps...
A huge brute of a man appeared, holding a plate of food. He had long, jet black hair and a well kept beard. He was laden with weapons, most notably a large sword sheathed on his left flank. "Unh...hello," he managed, seemingly nervous for some reason. "Here, the boss said you can eat now."
Justin and Lydia both glanced at each other with blank looks. Apparently this was out of the ordinary.
"We've been here three days without decent food, why does he want us to eat now?" asked Justin, the suspicion in his eyes clear.
"I, I dunno! My name's Kzahar Firesoul. Please, for your own sake, eat the food. You will feel a lot better after, I promise!" Kzahar placed the food on the floor and slid the plate underneath the cell bars.
I for one was starving, and took an apple from the pile of food as Kzahar disappeared back to wherever he came from.
"This is strange," remarked Lydia, taking a loaf of bread and breaking it into three pieces. She threw some to me and her brother, and took a small bite herself. I bit into the apple, and suddenly felt very strange. A familiar feeling crept over me, I had tasted something like this before. I felt an enormous amount of power suddenly rush through my forearms, and my vision sharpened, a lot. I stood up and looked out of the barred window. I could see a bird flying in the distance. Nothing unusual you might think, but this bird was at least 5 miles away. This apple had been laced with a Ranger Potion.

I turned to look at Justin and Lydia. Now, Justin was a big lad anyway, muscles on top of muscles. But the power now coursing through his being was obvious, apparently whatever he was eating was laced with a strength potion. His biceps pulsed with the new found power, and a huge grin spread across his face.
"Eat this," he beamed and passed me the apple he was eating. I took a large bite, the effects instantly taking effect.
"Are either of you rangers?" I asked.
"I am," replied Lydia, wondering what was happening between me and her brother.
"Take a bite of this Lydia. Kzahar was right, I feel lots better!"
Lydia took a bite and her eyes widened with shock.
"This is all well and good, but what are we supposed to do with this power? We can't go anywhere, and we don't have our weapons and armour," Justin said.
Good point. What were we to do? During this, Lydia was sniffing her part of the bread. Satisfied it contained nothing suspect, she took another bite.
"Ow! By the Gods, what was that?"
Her sudden shout startled both me and Justin, and we turned to see what her problem was. She was nursing her very-nearly broken tooth with her left hand, and holding a key in her right. A key! Someone had stowed away a key in the bread! Lydia quickly stood up and tried the key on the door. It was a good thing she was a skinny girl, neither myself or Justin's arms would have fit through the bars.
Lydia struggled for a short time, trying to get the key into the hole. She managed it however, and the door swung open with a creak.
Justin looked at me. "We are going to take down these freaks. Are you with us?"
Too right I was with them. These cultist morons had managed to capture me, and the fate of Rose was yet unknown.
"Let's roll," I replied, heading out of the cell.

There was a passage leading from the cell up to a set of stone steps. We all silently crept along the passage and up the stairs, all the while not knowing what could happen next. After what seemed like an age of climbing the steps, we eventually came to a solid old wooden oak door. It was slightly ajar, and I could hear voices from within.
"So this is a fabled Dragon Long Sword. And a Magic Short Bow. Hey do you think I could do a special attack?"
"I dunno moron, just try it."
The idiots. These pair of morons had possession of my sword, and by the look on Lydia'* face, her bow. They did not know what they were doing. It takes months of hard combat training with a variety of different class of weapons to finally attune your body into the requirements to wield either Dragon Weaponry or Magic Bows. It is said that after all this training, your mind and body is fully ready to carry out a 'Special Attack'. Both Dragon weapons and Magic Bows are made with the spiritual and magic capabilities to become one with the user, and in times of need this magic infuses the weapon and mind together for a second, resulting in an attack with far greater precision and power.
And here were these cultists insulting my sword by thinking they could wield it. Before I had the chance to get too angry about it, Justin had burst through the door.
This man's capabilities were astounding. He was apparently an accomplished master of hand to hand combat. The first cultist didn't stand a chance, Justin grabbed his arm, in the same instant he used a palm thrust to wind the poor opponent. Whilst still holding the limb, he twisted himself around to the rear of the cultist, breaking the arm in several places. He ended the torment by delivering a punch square in his spinal column. He fell to the floor like a sack of potatoes, limp and crippled.
With a grin on his face Justin turned to the second cultist, who stood gaping at what he had just witnessed.

Half a second later he was knocked out, missing a few teeth, and most likely privy to a broken jaw. My Dragon Long Sword clattered to the ground. Justin picked it up and handed it to me.
"Here, I've never been a fan of blades."
The room we were in was most likely some kind of guard station for prisoners. There were a few chests and boxes littered around, some of which Lydia was searching through. She eventually found what she was after. She pulled out a full set of Black Dragon Hide Armour, and quickly put it on. She then pulled out a quiver of rune arrows, threw it over her shoulder and picked up her Magic Bow. She then went back to a chest she previously opened, and took out a Rune Plate Body, set of legs, and a Warrior Helm.
"Yours, I assume."
I threw my armour on with much haste.
"What about you Justin, do you have anything?" I asked, wondering what he used for protection.
"Got my weapons right here!" he replied, clenching his fists. He then suddenly spun around to face to face a door on the opposite side of the room..
In an instant Lydia had pulled an arrow from her quiver and readied her bow. She was aiming it at the door that Justin was glaring at, which was slowly opening.
"Don't shoot!" a familiar voice said, with a hand waving through the door. "Its me, your friend Kzahar! I'm on your side!"
Lydia lowered her bow, and Kzahar entered, with his sword drawn. I now had a chance to study it. It was amazing, whoever had forged this was a master of smithing. It was a very sharp looking long sword. It's colour was what was most perplexing though, a blue-purple-green, with a silver dragon curling its way up the hilt and halfway up the blade.
Kzahar noticed my interest.

"This is Drakthor, my sword. My adoptive father made it for me whilst I was still young, it's made from a mithrill runite composite ore, with combines the lightness of mithrill and the renowned reliability of runite." He said this with a big smile on his face, but his mood quickly turned sombre again. "This is not the time to discuss such matters. You are all probably wondering why I am helping you. I infiltrated the Veritus Vos Liberit six months ago. The guy who runs this whole organisation killed my family years ago, and I want his head. I've never got his name, but he likes to be called 'The Protagonist'. I think he is in this building somewhere," he then cast a glance towards Lydia and smiled. "I could do with your help, all of you."
"We need to take this organisation down anyway," Lydia replied. "We shall help, but make sure your goal does not interfere with ours, or we will kill you too." Poor Kzahar looked saddened by this, but understood. He looked at me and said "what about you? Do you wish to help?"
"Yes, tell me Kzahar, do you know of a girl called Rose? Is she here?" I asked.
"Yeah, she is Jonathon's sister. She is being held elsewhere. Jonathan is very protective of her, but his loyalties now lie within Veritus Vos Liberit. They are his family now, and she must not get involved. The Protagonist will probably want both her and you dead, and Jonathan punished for letting her get involved."
That's all well and good, but if this 'Protagonist' wants Rose dead, he'll have to rend me asunder first. And I'm not about to let that happen.
"We should get moving, there will be a meeting shortly to discuss what to do with you three, and Rose. They will expect me there, but that will be a perfect opportunity for us to strike. There will be around fifteen low grade members, or juves, like these two here. They will be easy to take out. What we need to worry about is Jonathan, The Protagonist, and Narayan."

Kzahar looked uneasy as he spoke the last name, Narayan.
"Who is this Narayan?" Lydia asked, noting the look in Kzah**'* eyes.
"He is a general here. Very powerful. He wields a maul, much like the granite ones you see about. This one was made especially for him, it is bigger than usual. He is a massive man, incredibly strong and ruthless, and it is said that he protects The Protagonist like his own flesh and blood."
Justin had that grin on his face again. "The bigger they are..."
"The harder they fall." finished Lydia.
"Do not underestimate him." remarked Kzahar with a grave look in his face. "I'd hate to see anything happen to you, Lydia."
Lydia looked shocked at this, and Kzahar realised what he said with a blush.
"Anyway, lets get this done. We should head to the next floor, there is a hall there where the meeting will take place."
"Lead the way," I asked, worrying about Rose. I hoped that The Protagonist had not done anything to her. He would pay dearly if he had. Then Kzahar walked back to the door through which he entered, and we all followed.
The door led into a massive corridor, with doors lining the walls on either side. It was all very well constructed, with granite bricks, doors made of solid oak and the occasional marble pillar.
I wondered what Kzahar had meant with what he said to Lydia earlier. I guessed that he may be attracted to her, but I thought there were other girls that would suit him better. I mean, Lydia is attractive, but not exactly the kind of girl you'd take home to your mother. Now Rose, she was much better. Womanly, graceful and beautiful all at once. I decided to clear my head of thoughts like this, the heat of battle was soon to descend, and I could not afford to cloud my judgment.
We eventually came to a door at the end of the corridor, and Kzahar held out his palm to us as he peered through, indicating us to stop.
He pulled the door shut again, and looked back at us.

"We're in trouble," he grumbled, with a very uneasy look on his face.

A voice boomed out from the opposite side of the door.
"What are you doing Kzahar? Should you not be at the meeting?"
Kzahar replied, "I'm, erm, I'm just going now, Narayan."
Lydia and Justin's faces both lit up. "You thinking what I'm thinking sis?"
"Darn straight bro."
"No, you can't..." panicked Kzahar, but it was too late. Justin once again led the way and burst through the door, with Lydia in hot pursuit. She already had her bow ready.
"No!!" shouted Kzahar, and followed them through. I hastily done the same and entered the room. This was evidently the mess hall, the smell of food wafted through the air, and plates and utensils littered the tables.
Justin and Lydia had both stopped in their tracks and were eyeing quite possibly the largest man I had ever seen. He was sitting on a bench at a purpose built table, with a mass of freshly prepared food. He was looking back at Lydia and Justin, with a half eaten chicken in his hand. He still had grease around his mouth, and bits of food stuck between his teeth.
"Well, what do we have here? I always thought you were scum Kzahar, but helping prisoners escape? That’s low even for you, you traitorous dog," Narayan snarled. He said this whilst getting to his feet and wiping the grease from his chops. He stood at the impressive height of at least nine feet tall. He picked up a massive maul that was leaning against the table and prepared himself for battle.
"I will crush each one of you like bugs. I shall leave you alive though, Kzahar, The Protagonist can decide your fate."
He charged at Lydia and Justin, who both reacted instinctively, Justin leaping back and Lydia rolling gracefully out of the way. He swung the maul at Justin, who just about managed to dodge, and Lydia let fly with her arrows. At least three had penetrated Narayan's flabby frame, but to little effect.

He took another swing at Justin, this time finding his target. Justin was sent sprawling across the floor, yelling in pain.

I charged in at the massive enemy and swung my blade. Narayan had seen me coming though, and brought the maul to defend against the attack. My sword clattered against the granite, and Narayan thrust the bottom of the wooden handle into my face. I felt a rush of blood as I was sent flying back.
Fortunately I wasn't knocked over, and was ready to dodge his follow up attack. He swung the maul in a downwards motion, aiming to smash me into the ground. I side-stepped the attack, which had smashed some of the floor tiles to dust. I brought the hilt of my blade into his knuckles, trying to crush his hand.
"Curse you!" he yelled, and swiped at me like I was a fly, batting me away. I was knocked back again, but this time I didn't need to ready myself for another attack. Lydia was still firing her arrows into Narayan'* hide, causing slow but steady damage. He turned his attention to Lydia, and using one hand swung his maul towards her. She ducked elegantly out of the way, and flipped backwards away from Narayan to avoid any follow up attack. The momentum of the maul caught Narayan off balance, and he had to steady himself. It was then I noticed that Justin was back on his feet, and Kzahar had sheathed his Drakthor sword, instead favouring two elven blades that he had sheathed upon his back.
In a whirl of metal Kzahar engaged our gargantuan foe. This man had a talent for dual wielding, his movements where confusing to the opponent, and defensive for himself. As Narayan finally regained his composure, he took his maul with both hands and swung it violently at Kzahar. With grace unbefitting a man of his size Kzahar leaned out of the way of the maul's arc and neatly sliced Narayan's left hand off.
The scream that came as a result was tremendously loud, Narayan roared like a dragon.

Justin took the pause in the attacks to jump onto Narayan's back, and landed a flurry of punches into the rear of his neck.

Again and again he rapidly struck, pounding the thick flesh until a crack was heard. Narayan's head sprung back, exposing his throat. Justin grabbed Narayan's chin with both hands and yanked his head back even further. Myself and Kzahar both charged in and hacked at both of the massive legs that still supported Narayan, despite his broken neck. He fell to his knees, the massive maul finally falling from his right hand.
"Do it sis!" Justin yelled, and Lydia, as quick as lightening, drew an arrow from her quiver. She moved in point blank onto the exposed neck, readied the arrow and released.
Justin released his grip and stepped away, Lydia also moved away from our opponent.
We all stood watching the beast of a man take his last breaths. He clawed at the arrow lodged in his throat, gurgling blood and struggling to breath. He started to quiver like he was having some kind of fit, the blood now flowing freely from his neck, small parts starting to squirt now and then.
In a flash he grabbed at his maul, and with what must have been the only strength left in his body, launched it towards Justin. He managed to move enough to avoid substantial damage, but was still knocked over.
"WHY WON'T YOU DIE?" Justin screamed as he got to his feet, now clutching the arm that very nearly had been broken. Narayan had fallen to his side, with his right arm limply grasping at his throat. Justin stood over him and punched at Narayan's face. Again and again and again Justin landed attacks. Myself and Kzahar looked at each other, Justin's anger surprising us both. Eventually Lydia calmly walked over to Justin and touched him on the shoulder.
"Come, brother, we have other matters to attend to."
Justin had punched away even after the sound of clashing bone and sinew had turned to a dull squelching noise, but his sister's touch calmed him in a second.

"Okay, lets go." He wiped his bloody hands onto his trousers.

This was all in a day's work for Justin and Lydia. I wondered who had managed to capture these two, and how they came across the Veritus Vos Liberit in the first place.
None of this mattered at the moment though, the most important thing was taking down this cult's leader, and getting out alive. At least, that was everyone else's objective. I, on the other hand, wanted, or needed maybe, to make sure Rose was safe.
"Lets keep moving," Kzahar said quietly, and once again led the way. I took one last look at the bloated corpse of Narayan, and wondered what cause could have made a man so willing to die for it. Perhaps Rose was right in her initial assumption in that Jonathan had been brainwashed, perhaps Narayan was just insane. In either case I was sure that these questions would be answered soon enough.
I caught up with the others as they began to traverse another massive corridor. The end of this one had a large staircase, leading up to a massive set of double doors.
"We are getting closer," breathed Kzahar, and sheathed his elven blades. He once again withdrew Drakthor. He looked nervous, beads of sweat forming on his brow, and he started to breath a little heavier.
"The Protagonist is mine," declared Kzahar. Lydia turned her head slightly and nodded in his direction, Justin simply kept walking.
I noticed Kzahar looking in my direction, and I glanced back, locking eyes for a second.
"Rose can be found on the third floor. She is being kept in Jonathan’s quarters. The only reason she is being treated with that much respect is because Jonathan is a high ranker here. As I said earlier, The Protagonist may very well want her dead."
"He'll have to get by me first," I replied, and Kzahar nodded.
"When The Protagonist is dead, I shall help you find her and escape this place."
We reached the end of the flight of stairs, and Justin pressed his ear to the door.
