I swung my sword at the first zombie who got in range. This one was one of the adventurers who had died in the wilderness, and unfortunately for me, he was still wearing his armour. My sword smashed into his chest plate, the rust breaking away as I struck. I quickly pulled away and swung again, this time aiming at something a little more substantial, namely his head. The upper half fell to the floor, making a rather sick wet splashy sound as it landed.
I then heard a scream come from behind me, and my fear of a surprise attack from our flanks was realised. One of the poor dwarves, Meroki, had been taken down and was quickly ripped apart by a group of zombies. Dark blood and entrails spewed onto the floor as the life was taken from our short comrade. The others gave a battle cry and charged in, leaving our right flank exposed.
I quickly moved into place to try and stop the zombies from surrounding us. I suddenly noticed a dark figure on the roof of one of the houses. He was draped in a cloak, and a hood covered his head. A scarf covered his face, and only his eyes could be seen. He extended his right arm, and a long coiled length of material fell down. I had seen this weapon before. A whip, taken from the Abyss itself. I had heard that these weapons possessed incredible power. I had often thought of seeking one out or maybe purchasing one, but I had been trained in the way of the blade. Using a whip just wouldn't feel right.
The figure suddenly leapt from the roof and landed on his feet amongst the undead. He disappeared from sight, the zombies turning upon him. I could hear the sound of the Abyssal Whip being twirled around. The sound was piercing and shrill, and was often interrupted by the sound of flesh being torn.

I caught a glimpse of our unknown hero, he was using the whip as an incredibly effective weapon. In his left hand lay a Dragon Dagger, coated in a strange blue toxin. He used both in unison, a deadly dance ripping apart our foes. He suddenly twirled the whip and caught a zombie behind him. The coil wrapped itself around the neck of his enemy, and the whip quickly tightened. This removed the head. What was most astounding about this move was the fact that the strange man used his dagger to impale the temple of another. The blue toxin quickly took effect. It was apparently some kind of acid, as the skin started smoking and bubbling away.
His deadly display continued until only one zombie remained. It suddenly turned on me, and the dark figure watched as it charged at me. I side stepped and tripped the zombie. As he fell I ran my sword along the midriff, and pulled my blade skywards. The body fell in two halves, and I quickly stamped on the head to finish off the foe.
I then turned my attention to the man who had effortlessly torn apart around two dozen of undead.
"I guess I owe you a debt of gratitude." I said.
"You guessed right. But now is not the time to collect upon that debt. You must head to the wilderness border north of here. The battle is all but won thanks to the unexpected help of dragons, but there is still work to be done." He replied.
"Where are you going? Your help will be useful to us."
"I must head to Edgeville. That place is the closest thing I have to a home, and I must defend it."
"Very well, good luck. Tell me though, what is your name?"
He looked at me, and I could tell he was smiling, despite the cloth across his mouth.
"Some call me Crow. You may call me as you wish."

With that he ran off, producing a crossbow. Attached was a mithril grappling hook. He fired it over the eastern wall and ascended the rope like a monkey up a tree. He then disappeared from view, his fate unknown. A familiar voice spoke out, and I turned around to see Justin surveying the corpses.
"Woah, what happened here? They've been cleanly ripped apart! Your blade couldn't do this!"
"Don't worry about it, we still have work to do, lets go!"
Justin nodded, and once again we all set off, this time to hopefully put an end to the fighting once and for all.
We passed through the northern Falador gate and headed towards the wilderness border. The rain had stopped for now, but the skies were still very overcast. It was now also late afternoon. Soon it will be early evening, and our efforts will be hindered by gradually diminishing light.
The sounds of metal tearing into flesh and angry shouting could be heard as we approached our destination. It seemed like the battle was far from over, but at least the dragons had been kind enough to do some of the work for us; I could smell the pungent aroma of charred flesh.
We finally caught sight of our destination and I stopped to look around and see what needed to be done. A few dragons were still circling overhead a mass pile of blackened corpses. It appeared as though they had done most of the legwork for us, but could do little more as the rest of the undead were mingling amongst our own forces fighting.
The others had continued on without me and had charged into battle. I was about to do the same when Tuoni's voice spoke out from behind me.
"Accursed dragons. If only they knew what rotten future their actions will bring upon them. I will make them all suffer for this. As for the Tzhaar, they know too much. I spared them in the past, but not now. They will perish."
I didn't even bother to turn around and face this worthless scum.

"You're delusional Tuoni. Your forces are all but destroyed. Once we've finished here, I'm coming for you. I'm gonna take you down."
I heard him laugh softly, but I could tell I had caught him off guard. Perfect.

I quickly spun around with my blade prepared in an offensive strike position, aimed at the chest of my nemesis. I also allowed my mind to merge with the Dragon Longsword and I called forth a special attack. The blade blurred as it cut through the air. I caught a shocked look in Tuoni's eyes as I did this, he did not expect this at all. He tried to step back and for the most part succeeded, unfortunately for him however, I managed to strike him. My blade tore across his chest with a satisfying shrill sound and he fell over. I quickly examined the wound as I followed up, shifting the grip so the blade became a stabbing weapon held between both hands. The sword thudded with the soft ground as Tuoni teleported away. Coward. The damage done to his chest wasn't very great, a flesh wound. I was more happy about the psychological victory. Until now, Tuoni held all the cards in that field. I now had an edge over him; if luck was with me I'd go as far to say that Tuoni was intimidated by me now.
I pulled my sword out of the mud and started heading towards the battlefield. My mind was flooded with the words of my master.
"Technical prowess is only half of the teaching I offer you. To completely beat your opponent, you must win the battle of the mind as well. Dominating someone's mind is difficult at the best of times, but worth the effort. A demoralised opponent is as good as dead. Unless he's a fast runner."
I still found these words humorous to me now. He once told me of a fight he won in his early days of training without even drawing his blade. He managed to convince his opponent that he was a grand master of offensive arts. The hapless idiot believed him and ran away, leaving a purse full of gold coins.

My master called this the 'Art of Fighting Without Knowing How to Fight.'
Ironically he actually became a grand master himself and eventually turned to teaching.
This was lucky for me, I was nothing more than a vagrant before he found me. I was living on the streets of Varrock at the age of fifteen; earning a living through picking pockets and generally being on the wrong side of the law. I left home at thirteen, much to the chagrin of my mother. My father couldn't care less, he was too drunk to care. I eventually found Varrock and turned to a life of crime, living there for nearly two years in and out of jail cells.
One day I was loitering about as per usual, looking for easy pickings. I then spotted a warrior wearing a Cape of Legends and some other expensive looking items. I quickly crept up to him and made my move. He had spun around and floored me before I knew what was happening. I prepared myself for a good kicking, but instead he held out his hand.
"Take it." He told me. "I know your sort. In fact, you're exactly the kind of person I'm looking for. I've just opened up an Academy of Offensive Arts, and I need recruits. I shall train you in the arts of nobility and swordplay, all for free. Do you accept ruffian?"
I took his hand and he pulled me up.
"What's in it for you?" I asked.
"The sense of achievement." He replied. "Follow me. By the way, my name is Remus."
He took me to a training compound near Falador. Word was these days it had actually been demolished, and a Guild for Warriors put up in it's place. I didn't mind too much, my memories of the place were still fresh in my mind.
We got to training almost immediately, firstly in swordplay, then mental conditioning.
Remus always said my change in character was nothing less than extraordinary. I was quickly turned from a lazy vagabond into a noble young man.

During one particularly tough training session, in this case carrying sacks full of rocks through a mountain range, he asked me a question.
"Tell me son, what is your name?"
The question came as a shock to me. I hadn't been asked this in a long time. No one had ever cared enough to ask.
It had been so long, I had a hard time remembering. I told him, and he smiled.
"Good man. Tell me, what do you wish to do with your life?"
"I'm not sure." I replied. "The life of an adventurer seems noble enough."
Remus laughed. "You're right. It is noble, good answer. There may be times where you may have to be dishonest in that line of work, however."
"What do you mean?" I asked. "You have taught me that dishonesty is not the way forward, and I have accepted that."
"True enough, but no one can be a saint can they? Well, except for saints of course...anyway, what I mean is expect to tell a lie now and then. Maybe even be a little underhand. Your life may one day depend on it. Or even worse, someone else's life. You wouldn't want blood on your hands just because you've had a crisis of morals do you?"
"I suppose so."
"I'm glad you understand. Now move your hide, it's your turn to cook dinner. I quite fancy shark tonight."
He knew full well that I would burn the shark. Just another excuse to moan at me I guessed.
I shook myself from my thoughts with a smile on my face and started to continue on, it was then I noticed something on the ground where Tuoni had lay; it seemed to be a very small pendant. I stopped to pick it up and opened it. There were was an inscription underneath two pictures, one on each half. I recognised the one person, it was Yamabushi. The other was a young woman, it must have been his daughter. I quickly read the inscription.
"With love, from Your Father."
I felt saddened by this, and closed the pendant shut. As I did so, I felt something on the back, a scratch. I examined it closely.

It was a strange symbol that had been hastily scrawled on. I decided that I will show this to Yamabushi later on. He deserved to see it, even if it would upset him.
I put the pendant in my pocket and continued on.
Something was not right though. The battle had suddenly gotten very quiet. A thought then hit me as I broke into a sprint. Tuoni had control over the undead. And I had just injured him.
I reached the battlefield and looked around. The undead had stopped fighting, they were just standing there as if their purpose had been fulfilled. They all had a rather nonchalant look in their rotting eyes, and a blank expression. They suddenly all turned to north, and began heading back into the wilderness.
Justin turned around and looked at me with a confused look on his face.
“What the heck’s going on?”
I was about to answer when the dragons circling the battlefield roared back into action. They now had clear targets, and began incinerating the ambling undead.
"Tuoni just paid me a visit." I said.
Kzahaar had joined us, and had heard what I said.
"What did he want this time?"
"The usual gloating. I managed to hit him this time though. I'm guessing that's why the undead have stopped, he is probably too weak to control them now."
I looked to the east, similar scenes were occurring all the way along the border. Hundreds of undead had turned away from the fight and were heading back into the wilderness. Not that they would ever get there. It seemed like the dragons were enjoying the target practice.
I looked at Justin and Kzahaar.
"Gather the others." I said. "We have much to discuss."

Three days had passed since the events along the wilderness border and Karamja.
I was in the middle of my preparations to battle Tuoni and was receiving combat practice from Yamabushi. During the mass battle Rose had passed out much like I did. She was also contacted by the Listeners and was given the knowledge required to transport me right onto Tuoni's doorstep.
I was anxious about the battle ahead. Despite injuring him, he still possessed great magical power. If he so much as wanted, he could wave his hand and end my life. At least that's what I thought. If luck was on my side he would be too weak. I was preparing just in case he had any further bodyguards or followers.
Yamabushi swung his blade at me and nearly took my head off.
"Concentrate!" He yelled.
I snapped back from my thoughts and readied my blade once again. My Obsidian Cape rattled in the wind as I moved.
We were in the back garden of the house. Everyone was here, watching anxiously as I sparred. I had to remain focused. I had several goals to accomplish when I arrived at Tuoni's island.
The first, destroy Tuoni.
The second, destroy whatever construction Tuoni dwelled within. If I managed to kill him, it would also be advantageous to destroy any evidence of his plans and any magical artifacts he may possess. The Temple Knights had granted me access to enough explosives to blow Varrock off the map. It should be enough to achieve my goal.
The third objective, find and rescue Yamabushi's daughter, Ikuna. I had given Yamabushi the pendant I had found, and his reaction was very emotional. He then noticed the scrawling on the back. It was a marking that Ikuna had put there. The symbol meant 'Help' in their native tongue. The pendant also contained a small amount of magical power, which would explain why Tuoni had confiscated it. We had to assume Ikuna was still alive. And seeing as I was the only one who could be teleported to where Tuoni was, it was up to me to rescue her.

The final goal, simply get back home safely. I was to take some teleport runes, so that shouldn't be too hard to achieve.
"Okay, that's it. We're finished for the day. You've lost your concentration." Yamabushi's voice pierced my thoughts.
"I'm sorry." I grumbled.
Yamabushi smiled. He done this a lot more since he heard that his daughter may be alive.
"Don't worry. Remember it was you that defeated me. I'm only passing on what I know."
"Didn't feel like a victory!" I said, pointing at the scar across my chest.
"Well, I felt defeated!" He replied, pointing to his nose.
Yamabushi sheathed his sword and sat down, leaning against the wall. I sheathed my own blade, unclipping my cape and dropping it to the ground. It landed with a loud clatter. The protection it offered was indeed most excellent, though it was rather heavy.
"Any idea when you want to set off?" Reanna said suddenly. I had also been sparring with her earlier. She was a talented fighter and had a knack for dual wielding, much like Kzahaar.
"Two days maybe. I need some more practice. Can't seem to focus though." I replied. I sat myself down next to Rose. She was busy washing some potatoes for dinner. She flashed me a quick smile as I sat down.
"My turn tomorrow!" Justin said. Jess was curled up on his lap purring away. She had been lucky enough to escape the wrath of the undead.
"I just think you want to hurt me." I replied.
"Well, now I've no use for that stupid axe, I can get back to what I do best!" He beamed.
"That 'stupid' axe cost me 200k!" I said, feigning disdain.
"I'll pay you back with expert training!"
I looked to the sky and thought of what had transpired over the last few days.
Varrock was relatively unharmed. Only a few zombies had managed to get into the city itself, but they were taken down. Unfortunately Varrock had suffered the most damage to it's militia. Over a hundred men lost their lives that day.

King Roald had survived, though he had suffered an injury to his leg. He was on the road to recovery, however.
Falador had also been lucky when it came to structural damage. The only incursion onto their land was taken care of by myself and the others, along with a powerful fighter who called himself Crow. Again, the most casualties were suffered throughout the people.
Karamja's volcano had pretty much decimated the northern part of the island. Brimhaven is a town that is far too aware of the dangers presented by a volcano, so they were prepared for an evacuation. Regrettably, the entire town was destroyed, along with the banana plantation and most of the jungle surrounding the volcano.
The town was well on the way to being rebuilt however, it seemed that the pirates there were pretty handy at building things.
Lydia suddenly stood up and walked back into the house, with Kzahaar following. The two of them had become a lot closer since the attack.
They weren't the only ones. It seemed the whole of Runescape had become closer with each other. It was like people had realised that despite the size of our world and the different cultures that inhabit it, we were alone. We had to co exist, lest we meet our doom. Be it with an undead army or by killing each other.
People actually said hello to each other in the streets. A small gesture, yet it seemed to mean so much. Adventurers started to take the time to help out others, rather than just kill things. And there just seemed to be a nicer atmosphere in the air. There just remained one more thing to make it all complete. The world needed to be rid of Tuoni. And it was apparently up to me to do it.
I realised that once again I was day dreaming. Everyone but Rose had headed back into the house. She had finished washing the potatoes and was drying her hands on an old cloth.
"How you feeling?" She asked, without looking up.
