We used to have Jagex Moderators who were responsible for this forum as part of their duties, so they would host contests. Then we had two Jagex Moderators who, though it wasn't explicitly in their job description, were kind enough to host regular contests. Mod Tron and Mod Craddock are, perhaps, the two most renown of the hosts, and each held them frequently over the course of a respective year.
Mod Kathy has since been kind enough to host two or three contests, but since Mod Tron left Jagex and Mod Craddock was transferred in departments it hasn't been as regular. It is disappointing, as I quite enjoy them. Mod Mark H hosted the contests in 2006 and 2007, but they were only annual. They were quite well received, though.

Oops, I forgot to re-visit this thread.
The fact that JMods put in effort into this forum was really good but it's a shame they cease to anymore, from what I have seen. At least this thread still gets regular forumers aswell as the occassional newcomer, albeit it not so regularly.
Consider this a free bump. ;)

We could create a collaborative thread? I'm remember what I did with Alex on TGP, and I really like what I was writing in only a few minutes each day.
Guidelines would be a simple 400 words/day and if you miss a day 3k words/week. You would select first theme I would select second.
Stories can be related or not, I don't care.
Your thoughts?

Oooh, 3k words a week. That's more than I was expecting. Think we could shave it down to 2k words per week or 300/day? Doesn't have to be set in stone there, but I think I need a lower goal, at least until I get back into the habit of daily writing.
And I have no ideas for a theme at the moment. So if you have an idea, you could take first go. Though I'll also be trying to think of something.
Then I'm not entirely sure what you mean by stories being related or not? I assume there's some relation in that they should have the same theme/basic idea, but I'm unclear just how related you're talking, I suppose, so I don't know how to answer that very well.

I don't mind shifting the word limit down. ;) I too need to get back into the swing of things. It would be, then, 2100 words per week or 200 words per day? I want to give a benefit to true daily writing.
I'll probably just end up randomly opening the dictionary, blindly picking a word and attributing a theme to it, honestly. So I wouldn't worry.
And in terms of the relation, I meant your 200 words/day 2100 words/week all used to craft the same narrative or not. Or in the same world, even. Do we want 7 unique stories or one continued one with odd little themes?

2100 = 300/day? Or is the daily goal meant to come out a little lower if added up, since it has the benefit of the daily habit?
And in relation, I would say whatever you feel like that week, or some combination of it. One 1500 word story and then three 200 word stories would be fine, or just one 2100 word story written across seven days, whatever feels right with the topic. I don't particularly want to limit myself to a low word count too regularly, but sometimes a real simple piece would be good to shake things up.
Do you want to go ahead and make the thread when you see this, as it looks like we've pretty much got stuff worked out? And then have the week start on Sunday 0:00 forum time?

Yrolg directed me here after he saw me asking the community if anyone wanted to write a collaborative story with me. After looking through the several posts here I wouldn't mind getting involved with this. It seems pretty neat, and I like the word count limit per week.
Various-theme writing like this should surely improve my writing abilities. I like the idea Yrolg and iChuk. :) I look forward to writing with you guys.
