Only my mom was there, all bruised and scraped up, the house looked like a big fight had taken place while I was away. The appearance of my face brought tears of joy to my mom, but tears of sadness to mine. The lack of others...The bruises and scrapes...the wrecked house...

She just kept saying the words “don't leave me” over and over again.

Amascut wasn't lying...

Menaphites had discovered where our family resided in Pollniveach, and raided the house with armed men. Aleck was out on a hunting trip at the time. Only my mom and dad were there. Dad was no fighter, and didn't stand a chance against them...They killed him on the spot with no effort. Mom tried to fight back but was overpowered by the amount of them, only using kitchen knives to fight. The only reason she survived is because she fell unconscious and the menaphites had felt their job was done and left.

Aleck had returned later, just as I did and found the destruction, and upon hearing that it was menaphites who raided the house he instantly left to avenge the destruction and left for Menaphos. It's been days since, and he hasn't returned.

Mom was smart, though, and didn't think the menaphites to blame...They would have no reason to come in and kill them and leave without taking anything. She knew it was Osman's doing, and that the menaphites were not menaphites at all, only disguised to give the impression they were behind it. Aleck heading to Menaphos for revenge would not only be suicidal, but wrong, but he wouldn't listen to her. Only Osman would have the reason to do something like this.

Regardless, I feel only Amascut is to blame. I told her everything that happened in Nardah, and what happened to Olivia and Zakera...It was to the point of unbearable suffering for us to handle.

No words were spoken, only tears shed for the next couple days until we were able to recover from the emotional pain.

I said I was going to save Aleck before he gets himself killed in Menaphos, and was all ready to leave, but my mom just kept shouting at me to not leave her, not to leave her like the rest of the family has. She threatened she would kill herself from grief if I left her, she didn't want to lose me like she lost everyone else she loved.

Aleck was the only one who was unconfirmed to be dead, so there was still hope he might be alive...

...But I couldn't bring myself to leave her by herself. She was right. Our family had enough casualties already. I promised her I would never leave her side again, that I would always be there for her.

And I have been here since. Never leaving her side, never leaving the house. We moved into a recently constructed house portal in town with the money I had gotten from Nardah, should the 'menaphites' ever return to finish us off, we wouldn't be found so easily.

Mom's started taking in cats as well, since she believes the rumors of how cats keep away the devourer. I can't say I blame her...Anything to feel safe.

But she's just not the same...I'm not the same... Nothing is...

So I say once more...If anyone finds this...If anyone reads it to the end...If anyone puts themselves in my place, maybe you'll understand. Maybe you can change something.

Because I can't.

Chosen by the gods or not, I will not leave my mother's side. I will not leave her like the others. I won't let anything like this happen again.

Amascut the devourer destroyed my life. Everyone I loved dearly is gone, and everyone that's left are only pale reflections of our past selves.

And only she is to blame...and myself.
