The priest gasped, but didn't speak, knowing that his god could already sense his discomfort.

“Yes, Zaros is aligned with the Void, even though he is also pledged to the cause of darkness,” said Erebos. “Your goal is to prop him up and keep him from wandering too far down the Void's path. For this, I shall grant you some gifts. First, this.”

The priest felt a staff materialize in his grip, and managed to quickly grab it before it fell to the floor.

“This staff belongs to Gielinor's god of justice, Armadyl,” said Erebos, “It is called Amnat, the judge's staff, and is itself, one of the keys to the ancient Celesta Gates. Guard it well. To prevent Amatsu and the gods of Gielinor from noticing what you bear, I shall shroud the staff's nature with my own darkness.”

The priest could feel power rush into the staff, which seemed to change its form as Erebos blessed it.

“This is not the only blessing I will give you, to further help your cause I grant you four of my personal servants.”

The priest felt his hairs stand on end as four more presences entered the darkness.

“I know I can trust you to handle this discreetly, my son,” said Erebos, *Use whatever means necessary to thwart the warlock king, but do not draw the other gods' attention to this. If things go as I predict, there will be those demanding aid from the other primordial gods as is. If my sister and the other two get involved, and end up fighting each other, we might soon find a cataclysm on our hands, Under no circumstances must the warlock king be allowed to play us against each other.”

The priest bowed, and without a word, vanished to carry out his master's will.

Back on Gielinor the warlocks in Zamorak's service had finally finished their ritual. Staring at the demon “statue” they waited for painful moments as the statue remained motionless. For those several long moments it seemed that they had failed, then the statue moved. It wasn't much, just a minor twitch of the arm, but it was enough to show that the spell was a success.

Immediately the cave was filled with cheers as the followers of Zamorak congratulated themselves on having gained such a powerful ally.

“I...” the demon said in a chorus of the mouths that covered its body. “I am free at last?”

“Yes, you are free,” said Zamorak, smirking to himself as he walked over to the demon, “And it was I, who freed you.”

“And you are?” questioned the demon.

“Zamorak, god of chaos and war!” replied Zamorak, “You will serve me now, demon, and wipe out the followers of Zaros!”

The demon remained silent while Zamorak spoke, then began laughing. “You, little “god” would dare try to control Terrethus, the demon of earth who itself ruled over mortals as a god? Cower, before true power!”

Spires of stone rose from the cavern floor, impaling most of Zamorak's followers, only the mahjarrat, managed to escape death. And, realizing this battle was too risky for them to fight, they were quick to flee. Zamorak himself stared wide-eyed at the demon, it had never occurred to him that he might be betrayed.

The demon itself didn't seem to care about the so-called “god” who stared at it in shock. Stretching its arms upward, in sent a surge of power into the cavern ceiling above it.

It was a fairly normal day in Falador. Citizens went about their business, buying and selling, all under the protection of Saradomin's benevolent white knights. To most of the civilians, the bickering of the gods was irrelevant. Something for priests and scholars to argue about, which rarely affected the lives of the people. For them, Zaros having his “foot in the door” meant pretty much nothing. What did it matter to them if another god had shown up and was gathering followers in the east? As far as they were concerned it was far more interesting that a peddler dressed in an unusual outfit had recently shown up outside the city gates to sell high quality toys and dolls for their children at bargain prices.

It may very well have been the hand of some god that caused the peddler to set up shop outside the gates instead of within. Thanks to this peddler and his fortuitous choice, many of Falador's citizens and their children were outside the city, gathered around the peddler while he exhibited his fares in amusing and clever ways. Thus, when the earthquake hit , the ground under the eastern part of the city gave way, and a massive demon who towered over even Tsutsaroth broke out of the ground, there were few casualties.

Staring in shock at the demon that had appeared in their city, many of the people spoke Saradomin's name, some as an oath, some in prayer. Of course, the shock didn't last long before giving way to panic. Parents scooped up their children in their arms and fled, screaming or praying. Many of the white knights who had been outside the gates joined them ostensibly to “protect them” no doubt thankful that their helmets hid their expressions of sheer terror.

It was no wonder that, in the confusion, no one noticed that the peddler didn't move. His eyes fixed upon the demon, he gathered some things from his cart, and slowly walked into Falador.

In the hall of the gods Sardomin, Armadyl, Guthix, Bandos, Seren, and the shadow of Zaros could only stare at Falador in silence.

“An ancient demon...” gasped Saradomin. Turning to Zaros, he bellowed, “How dare you awaken Terrethus!”

“Neither I nor my followers awoke him,” said Zaros, coldly, “We are well aware of the stupidity of doing such a thing. Only an IDIOT would actually release one of the ancient demons.”

Saradomin noted the emphasis on the word “idiot”, and his blue skin turned several shades paler.

Seeing Saradomin's expression, Guthix sighed and said, “It seems you are right, that fool is standing in the cavern, violating my edicts. I'll bring him here.”

Zamorak materialized on his throne with a bang.

“Zamorak!” shouted Saradomin, “What is the meaning of this?! I knew you were a fool, but I never thought you would actually awaken one of the ancient demons!”

Visibly shaken, Zamorak stuttered, “I th-th-thought he would help me. Besides, Zaros was going to resurrect him otherwise.”

Four sets of eyes turned to Zaros (Armadyl had his eyes shut, apparently in concentration.)

“You are mistaken, my friend,” said Zaros, “I know how stupid it would be to resurrect an ancient demon. Why, it require a lot of powerful spell-casters, almost all of whom would probably die, weakening their god considerably. Although, if there was a way to resurrect a demon like that, in Saradomin's territory, where it would wreck havoc, and DIDN'T cost me followers, I might consider it...”

“Especially given what we would have to do to stop it,” sighed Armadyl, his eyes opening.

“To stop it?” questioned Saradomin, “None of our followers are strong enough to stop Terrethus!”

“None of the followers we have in this age,” corrected Armadyl.

Saradomin and Bandos' eyes widened, as they stared at Armadyl in disbelief.

Finally, Bandos broke into a grin, “Sounds good to me!” he exclaimed, “A fight with an ancient demon, they're going to love it! This is a once-in-a-lifetime battle!”

“You do realize, old friend,” Saradomin muttered, “What will happen if we give this order?”

Armadyl glanced at Zaros and nodded sadly and said, “We will be ending one threat by releasing another. But I would prefer the threat that is under someone's control, even if that “someone” is an enemy, rather than a threat that is that is uncontrollable.”

Saradomin said nothing, but bowed his head in acquiescence, causing Zaros' image to smile. Meanwhile, Guthix found himself once again clueless as to what his brethren were up to, and rather unnerved by the whole incident.
