I'd love to talk to you about some things, if you'd be willing

Ayumu shivered. He hated this, hated it with all his being. The feeling of nothing wrapped around him. Such a thing was hard to describe to someone who had never felt it... it wasn't like having air on all sides... air one could feel, although they might not often notice it, there was always the feel of open space when one was exposed to air. But now, Ayumu could not feel the open space, it was as if every inch of his body had gone entirely numb.

Worse than the feeling, though was what he saw if he opened his eyes. Nothing. Once again, not what people normally meant when they said nothing. For many to say you saw nothing meant you saw only darkness, which Ayumu had decided was far preferable to viewing his surroundings, and thus had shut his eyes. When he had them opened his brain had been confronted with a view of absolutely nothing, which, not making sense, had immediately resulted in a large headache and intense nausea. Bemusedly, Ayumu what would happen if he vomited into the Void, into nothingness itself.

He sighed to himself, and in doing so made no sound. After all, nothing could penetrate the absolute silence of the Void. How long had they been in here? A pointless question, he knew. The Void was outside of time and space, any perception of time he had was just a trick of his brain trying to deal with the absence of time. So, while it felt like hours, it could've been mere seconds since entering the Void, and Ayumu would never know. He mentally cursed himself for letting Setkul talk him into this. He should've known something was up when the child of the Void told him to put Liam asleep, and when Gaudete had excused himself, saying he would take another route to their destination. But, in Ayumu's defence, he had never expected Setkul to be crazy enough to use Voidal teleportation. After all, Gielinor was surrounded by a dimensional lining known as “the abyss” which was far more easy to teleport via. In fact, there was little reason to ever use Voidal teleportation unless you were traversing between worlds, and why...

Ayumu stopped. Certainly Setkul wasn't planning something like that? Traversing worlds? Why would he do such a thing?

Unfortunately, his line of thought was disrupted as light struck his eyes and a humid heat simultaneously wrapped around him. Ecstatic with the sensation, Ayumu opened his eyes and found himself in a lush forest, with bright sunlight shining upon him. As pleased as he was to get out of the Void, it took him a few seconds to realize something was amiss; there were almost no shadows in the forest. Puzzled, he looked up and found that the sky was brighter than he was used to, and that there were two suns on the horizon.

His eyes widened and an uneasy feeling settled over him. Nervously, he allowed himself to look around at the sky, and as he feared found that there were a total of twelve suns in a ring at the horizon.

“Muspellheim?!” he shouted at Setkul, “What in the names of the six primordials made you think that was a good idea?!”

“There's something I have to retrieve here,” replied Setkul, “And I wasn't going to leave Liam back in Gielinor while I went to get it.”

“Setkul, you're crazy,” groaned Ayumu.

“I thought you knew that already?” said Setkul, “Regardless, let's hurry on. I don't want to stick around in Muspellheim's jungles for long.”

“Noted, although, for us, the cities are just as dangerous,” muttered Ayumu, “How are you going to explain an incubus with us?*

*That's easy, I have 'adopted' him,” answered Setkul.

“Ah, using Tenzoku society against itself, clever,” said Ayumu.

“Well, it is me,” replied Setkul, picking up Liam, “Anyway, let's go.”

“Right,” sighed Ayumu, following.

“That's our commander?” gasped one of the Zarosians.

“Apparently, I hear the Great Lord has a high opinion of this one,” replied another.

“I can see why,” said the first, “Dang... is that person a woman?”

“What a foolish question,” said Orcris, walking up behind the soldiers, and getting a salute. “Why does it matter what gender you're officers are?”

“It doesn't sir!” exclaimed one of the soldiers.

*That's better,” replied Orcris, “Now, if you'll excuse me...”

Walking in front of the new commander, Orcris bowed and said, “I am Orcris, head of the fourth division of the Zarosian Knights. Our lord has commanded me to act as your subordinate in this mission.”

“Excellent, a pleasure to meet you, Sir Orcris, as Zaros may have told you, I am Amatsu Mikaboshi,” Orcris nearly gasped at the sound of this new commander's voice. It was breathtakingly beautifu;, the only way to describe it that might do it justice would be to say that it was as if the essence of the sunset itself had been transformed into song... Of course, this might have been expected; the new commander was clearly not human, at least as far as Orcris was concerned... the commander's body looked like it had literally been sculpted from marble, it was a flawless expression of an androgynous human, and as pale as marble. Combined with the dazzling white and gold robes this commander wore, its cascading blond hair, and its emerald-like eyes, it possessed the characteristics one would expect of a god or goddess, but nothing of flesh and blood.

“As soon as the other two commanders arrive, we may leave,” said Orcris.

“Ah, then we may leave shortly,” said Amatsu, “As I am providing the other commanders.”

“You are... providing them?” asked Orcris.

“Yes,” replied Amatsu, “I am a powerful warlock, and as such have many beings, and even other powerful magic-users holding allegiance to me... two of those will be your co-commanders. Speaking of which, here comes the first.”

At this, a voice commented, “Only, my “allegiance” is but a simple partnership for mutual benefit.” With these words, thousands of crimson insects swarmed into sight, and gathered in a single place. When they had thus gathered, they vanished all at once, and left behind a young man with black hair and eyes such as dark shade of brown, they could easily be mistaken for black. He was clad in black and red robes, complete with a blood red cape.

“This is Thomas Pliknip, also known as the warlock of despair,” said Amatsu, “He is a warlock of the fourth realm... the rank right below that of an endless witch, not that you'd know what that is. But suffice to say, he is immensely powerful.”

“A pleasure to meet you,” said Orcris, extending his hand.

Thomas looked at Orcris' hand like it was diseased, then said in a muffled tone, “Likewise.” but did not offer his own hand.

Amatsu rolled his eyes at this and said, “Now... for the other of my commanders, I call one of the Seventy-Two Demons, come forth, Dantalion!”

The land shook and split, fissures which seemed to run down to the world's center spiderwebbed across the terrain. And, as all this was happening, a strange marking appeared in front of Amatsu, and from it rose a being.

To Orcris' surprise it looked nothing like what the half-elf thought a demon would; it did not possessed horns, nor hooves, nor fangs. For all the world, he looked like a human, except for its face, and that made it all the more disturbing... it face seemed to shift between millions of faces, some of which Orcris recognized.

“Dantalion of the book, at your service,” said the demon, bowing to Amatsu. Like its face, its voice did not seem to be anything constant, instead shifting with the faces, sometimes the voice of a child, other times, that of the elderly, sometimes male, sometimes female.

“Take a static form at once,” groaned Amatsu.

“As the one who summoned me wishes,” said Dantalion. Orcris gasped as Dantalion's form shifted to one he recognized as belonging to Aquaregis. Likewise, its voice seemed to be that of Aquaregis as well.

“Now, that we are all here,” said Amatsu, “Let us go, there is a Tenzoku lord who has promised us the sword Lord Zaros seeks in exchange for military aid. Now, Thomas, if you would.”

“Already done,” said Thomas, pointing to a large portal.

“Alright then,” said Amatsu, “We march now, through this portal, and into Muspellheim. We will soon be fighting a war in a foreign land... for the glory of Zaros!”

“For the glory of Zaros!” repeated the army gathered behind him. And with that, the Zarosian troops marched onto Muspellheim.

@I Had Sanity: I'm always happy to talk with my readers, hopefully you can catch me on game some time, I also play War of Legends on the Immortal Shrine Server. (WoL, unlike Runescape has an internal mail service, so you can mail me there.) I would give out my e(c)mail address, but it's against the rules. (Honestly, that seems Draconian, I understand how revealing phone numbers and street addresses, etc. Is a threat to security, but e(c)mail?)
