Placing her right hand out, palm up, she waited a brief moment for one of the two instruments, the flute that had been flitting around her head, to land in it. With it now ready, she brought the instrument to her lips, a soft melody beginning to emanate from it as she began to play. The music flowed through the air, filling the surrounding area with a feeling that could be described as a gentle breeze on the mind. It held no magical effects, not yet. To someone that knew her, this was simply her means of holding a weapon, being ready in case her hope that they were friendly was misplaced. Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.

Soahc came upon a city amidst the mountain ranges and requested its demise. For a semi-mechanical entity, dismantling architecture would be possible, though Kira’s swathes of flames would do greater damage, possibly before the paladins and other heroic sorts arrived on time, but only time would tell.

The DemiGod had his plans, his intents, none of which concerned Mechanical too much. His brain had regenerated just enough to get his senses back. Living two lives at the same time while in conflict with the other half of himself was his main issue, and he knew his other half would always know what he was thinking, forever trapped in a strange struggle. It was no surprise, then, that Newborn--now becoming Firstborn--awoken the Eight-Legged One for an alliance but only time would tell why, for not even Mechanical knew why he did that. It was as though his other self did not know what he was doing yet achieved unprecedented results anyways, though if Soahc were to simply slay Firstborn...

The Eight-Legged One reminded Mechanical of an old friend, also an eight-legged entity of mechanical nature, though she did not exist in this world, nor did she exist any more in her original world. Undoubtedly, reality was enigmatic with unknowable aspects, and Soahc was one of the few who knew how this all worked.

“Then to the Heartforge we shall go, beyond that lies all we wish to know.” Mechanical’s damaged framework sizzled and steamed of bubbling blood, though he would keep going until the very end. “Whatever you seek in the Godforge...you won’t find it.” Mechanical’s comment was mostly directed to his other half who probably hoped the Eight-Legged One would intervene with Soahc and make a total mess of things, grant the DemiGod the chaos he adored--and to unfurl a world of...weapons.

Mechanical looked afar, in the direction where Firstborn once stood overlooking Ogrin. And so, the hunted was also the hunter, and vice versa. The impending climax would be vicious and brutal for sure, but amidst the impending doom, an inevitable miracle, or total annihilation?

Into The Fire

The avian city of Ornithonas was perched precariously atop Inferos, Ignis-Apicem in the birdfolk's own tongue; a mountain of great width that rose slowly across miles and miles until finally, suddenly emerging towards a steep peak. The avians needed no walkways or stairs to go from the mountainside to their mountaintop city, however when trading substantial amounts of cargo they found need to have mundane ways of transporting items to their gates.

The cargo cages were house-sized vessels of iron bars attaching an upper and lower platform. The cage roof was affixed to a chain which dangled for two hundred feet, but was attached at its top to an automated winching system that allowed surface-made items to be shepherded in bulk to the sky citadel above.

Each cargo cage rose at once through open sky. A chain of officials had to approve of the raising and lowering of the cages which took a considerable amount of energy, and so avian guard questioned the fact that these elevators were ascending. There was too much bureaucracy involved for the system to ever be cheated.

One of these cages was carrying **Soahc the Deceiver**, DemiGod of Chaos, Father of Evil and Courter of Death. At his side was Cold Ethyl and her three hag sisters, who had each bewitched the chains of the cargo cages to lift the elevators of their own accord. Each one was filled with members of this army of the damned. Hagspawn, cultists, shades and mercenaries and monsters of all kinds. One cage was given entirely over to the herd of undead AchUbaid the Undying had courted these past months; the most recent additions being the avianfolk they'd found at the base of the mountain's peak.

"It is time to kill a people," Soahc announced joyfully. He glanced sideways at the Mechanical demonoid that had joined their foray. Was it a sign that his plan succeeds - or was it indicative of some greater calamity?

"Kira darling," he demurred to the fire priestess. "Don't get too lost. Have some fun, but it's the Heartforge where I need you. I could have the necromancer bring you back if you foolishly got yourself killed, of course, but I don't think he could quite recreate your raw talent."

The half-god spawn of evil turned next to Cold Ethyl. "Time to send your children out to die." The hag relayed the message to her spawn - and almost in those exact words too. There was no love lost between the hag and her progeny.

Soahc made a gesture as though to shrug off a cape, though he wore none. A plume of magic spread out from him, covering the cages in a radius about the deity. "When we're up there, best to grab a mask or stay near me. Otherwise you might get all choked up." The passengers in the elevators would have no doubt felt the thinning of the air at this stage.

Soon the cages came to a halt, having risen level with a grand platform that served as the entrance to the city of Ornithonas. The avians had enslaved the dwarves for centuries and forced them to build this mechanised city, and a second machine activated to gently move the cargo cages onto the platforms for disembarkment.

The cage doors opened and the Deceiver strolled out. His army followed at even pace. The demigod seemed almost confused by the fact that they were not meeting resistance. It made him giddy. He began to laugh, approaching a great steel-forged gate, some eighty feet tall. Avian guards could be seen at its top, peering down in confusion.

"Chaos," Soahc said wistfully. Then he stretched, and stretched, and his body grew, bones snapping and muscles bulging, until the once undersized human-passing being now stood at sixty feet, fully proportioned. Now giant, his eyes turned black and his ear-to-ear smile revealed rows of fangs as he looked back at his armada. "Let's go boys," he called, then turned and swung his arms into the gates. Their hinges snapped in an instant and jettisoned into the city.

At the Leprechaun's Foot tavern, a conversation was interrupted.

"Ah'm jus' sayin'," said Karstone Greatjohn, the aged adventurer's voice muffled behind the gasmask-like contraption he wore, "It meks nae sense t' 'ave this same bar in e'ry town 'n' village Ah see." The avians had helpfully provided him with the breathing apparatus - he would have died days ago without it. Karstone was thankful of that, though less thankful of the fact that none of the authorities had listened to his warning.

There was the sound of steel rending, and then a great force of weight careening down the city streets.

"Tha's our cue," said Karstone, hopping down from his barstool and retrieving the twin hammers from his belt.

"Finally," replied Decan Martha, though whether she was thankful at the start of battle or merely the cessation of banal conversation was unclear. She gestured to her platoon, and together they left the establishment.

They had arrived four days prior at Ornithonas. Its marvels were countless - the streets were wide, expansive, and empty. The avianfolk passed by overhead in sky-lanes dictated by the corridors created from buildings' roofs, with most buildings having their doors on their upper floors and no ground floor entrance at all. Every piece of wall was covered in metal pipes, as the lava flows beneath the city were pumped upwards to power every aspect of this city's workings. The avianfolk were first amongst the peoples of Engelain to harvest the power of the earth and to bring forth electricity.

But more marvellous than the unique architecture was the sixty-foot son of Tyrrus that had just battered down the city's front gates.

Already the masses charged in. Swords and spears, living and dead, magical and mundane, they swept into an unsuspecting and vulnerable city.

Decan Martha strode to the centre of the street. Ahead, the armies of evil advanced. Behind, a building collapsed from the impact of the steel gates crashing into them at max speed.

"Here is where we hold the line!" Decan Martha yelled, readying her weapon. They did not know, could not know, what the final intent of the demigod's plan was. But their experience on the ogre plains, of the misuse of magics by the kingdoms of Great Og and Greater Ogrin, had given them some insight. Here, in the city of Orithonas on the top of Ignis-Apicem, the fate of the world was to be decided.

Deep below the mountain, another force for good was moving.

"Keep up, wingless ones. Keep up!" Came the caw of their insistent guide, who they had met at the base of the mountain and who was now leading them down a secret path that led through the core of the mountain's structure. Built aeons ago by the dwarves, this path ran alongside lava flows and curved about magmafalls, designed for quick passage rather than safety.

"I do not understand," called Breymaire the Conciliator, the centaur guide of Cirion. He was near enough at full gallop.

"What's not to understand?" Responded Thorek II. At his heels, a young hellhound howled in anticipation. The two groups of independent adventurers had converged not too long ago, and were now hot on the trail of Soahc the Deceiver. "An evil god's brought a fire mage to a city that runs on firepower. You do the maths!"

"Not that," said Breymaire, looking ahead at their avian guide. The avian woman was armoured in the strange, plate-like designs of her people. A goggled mask covered her face and beak, for no avian could breathe at such a low altitude. "The Lord Arran spent months assessing my worth before deeming me worthy of Ascension. You'd never even heard of him!"

"Your lord Aaron has moved the timetable up," cawed the avian, half running and half flying. An aura of energy emanated from her. "He's now pumping out Avatars once every ten minutes or so. War is upon us! He is giving up his godly powers and returning to Engelain today . Give it an hour and you'll probably all get the upgrade!"

Suddenly, the group beneath the mountain came to a very rickety, rusted, hanging metallic platform. There was a single lever, and at the platform's centre was a great chain rising through a hole that had been drilled through the very centre of the mountain.

"It's a long way up folks," squawked their guide, pulling the lever when all the occupants had stood upon it. Rocketing up at what was most certainly unsafe speeds for the better part of three minutes, soon the platform came to a clattering halt directly beneath a tarp held up by storage crates all about them.

The avian removed the cover, revealing them to be in a warehouse. She hit a switch on the wall and a churning sound emanated as a large door, taking up almost an entire wall, was winched up and above their heads. Out in the city streets were screams of terror, and rivers of blood.

Meanwhile, on the mountainside, an elderly mage wheezed to a halt.

"We're too late," said Hecate, the grey-skinned, antlered hagspawn glancing skywards. The cargo cages that let people go from the mountain to the city had already ascended.

"Not-" the old man - Tempora Sage - master of temporal magic, was coughing up a storm. Their pursuit of The Deceiver had been long, hard, and non-stop. "Not too late." He turned towards Annie, his prized student. He had been training her all the way from Myrkvior to the Eyr Mountains, all those days and weeks they had spent crossing the Great Plains. She was ready.

"Annie, use your magic. We need to get to the city," he pointed up to the top of the mountain where the birdfolk city sat. "I know you can do this. Only you can. We must stop whatever is happening up there, before it's too late."

((Welcome to the finale of Into The Fire. Those who were previously here, feel free to jump back in. Those who have never been on this thread, but would like to join for the final showdown, welcome aboard! You are either on the side of good - having arrived in the city of the birdfolk to defend it against the unknown machinations of the trickster god Soahc - or on the side of evil, sacking the city of Ornithonas as part of some greater plan for which you do not have the full details.

As I want to actually complete this thread - seven years after it was created - I will be condensing a lot of storylines down into a grand spectacle of storytelling. Come one, come all! Come and see the final showdown for the fate of the world.

And happy roleplaying!))

Annie been training with Tempora Sage for a long time as they traveled. They came to a Mountain and saw the cages was gone. She heard Hecate and Tempora Sage Conversation about being too late or not.

That’s when Tempora Sage told her she needed to used her magic to get to the city to stop whoever is up there before it’s too late. He believed she can do it. She felt very nervous about this but said,”Ok. Let’s do it.” She used Earth launch to shoot the group up to the city and they landed softly by Annie using air bending to slowly landed them to the ground. She was shock she was able to that and didn’t feel tired.
