Well, at least now people have a chance to go to Old School RuneScape and play the quest that inspired it for themselves.

I wrote this story after re-playing the quest several times on my 'holiday newbs' in 2010, and couldn't help noticing that it was pretty weird. So of course in addition to coming up with explanations as to what happened to the characters, I also came up with multiple explanations for some of the weirder elements.

All things considered, I could see why some people at Jagex didn't like that quest. In addition to the player doing very little other than just deliver stuff (and yet get 5 quest points for it), it has what critics refer to as an Idiot Plot. The plot depends on the characters acting like idiots in order for the quest to end the way it does. Romeo, obviously, is the biggest idiot, with Father Lawrence and Draul Leptoc tied for second (Father Lawrence for not realizing the potion plan wouldn't work because of Romeo's problems, and Draul Leptoc for being oblivious to everything).

So of course I wrote stuff that might explain all that.

Im sorry i didnt get a chance to see this thread back when you wrote it all those years back.

I do hope you will still accept my feedback :)

It was a great read, and i must say i am highly impressed. I have not read a good story like that in a long time.

You have a knack for writting a good story. Keep it up. It may come in handy one day :)

Always love a well researched and written story.

Well, it was fun to write. I wonder if any Jagex mods have seen it. They'd probably be impressed by how their tossing aside certain characters inspired me to take them in all sorts of crazy directions.

Six and a half years later and the explanations still make sense. Excellent story Darelzel!

Thanks! As I said, this was a lot of fun to write.

Of course since I wrote this story, Romeo has turned up along with other removed or reworked content in the 'Behind the Scenes' area in Gower Quest. He has a good bit of dialogue about references and what the best kinds of references are.

And while I'm on the subject of references, I think it's a fun activity for readers to read this story and see how many references to various RuneScape quests and to the original Shakespeare play that I make in this story. Some are more obvious than others.
