Saren and Kaisen sat with Kalda and Ronakal around the table to enjoy dwarven cooking. Kalda caught up with what had happened in the village, and Saren and Kaisen felt out of place. They were bearing a great burden, and they were being chased by evil forces. The last thing they wanted was for this village to be ravaged by Black Knights.

After dinner, Kaisen and Saren thanked Ronakal for his hospitality, and told him to tell Kalda goodbye, for she had gone away to see others in the village. "She would have wanted for you to say that in person," he told them.

"We have to leave. Please pass on the message," Kaisen pleaded. He knew Kalda would have insisted on coming, and he didn't want to get her in any more trouble.

Ronakal sighed. "I will. Go on and do your adventuring, and best of luck." Saren and Kaisen left out of the village and began the climb up Mount Trollweiss.

"She wouldn't have wanted to come," Kaisen reassured himself. "She was happy being home."

"I don't see why you care about her," Saren said. "We have to remain focused on the mission. Whatever you're feeling is a waste of time." He was oblivious to feelings, as a hardened White Knight.

"I don't like the look of the sky," said Kaisen, changing the subject. He didn't know just how right he was.

A storm was brewing in the high sky above. It was something that occurred every so often on the slopes of Mount Trollweiss, and the dwarves referred to it as "Blizzard of the Cold Death."

Saren and Kaisen climbed up the snowy slopes until the climb was almost vertical. Luckily, they had brought equipment from Darkashan. The ropes came in handy, but, as it started to snow, their hands froze. Kaisen had to use fire magic to warm not only the dragon egg but also his hands.

The storm only got worse. The sharp, biting wind whistled through the mountains, and the snow came down in spurts. The ice chapped at the side of the mountain, creating a maelstrom of freezing madness, the final obstacle of their search for the Sage of Trollweiss.

"Hold on!" Saren shouted to Kaisen. He was higher on the rope than Kaisen, so he was the first to see the light of the fire in the cave at the mountain's summit. "We're almost there!" he shouted, but his voice was lost in the wind. He pulled himself up to the ledge and looked down, but he could not see Kaisen through the snow.

Kaisen pulled his way up the rope. The wind blew him around, pulling him several feet from the wall and then throwing him back. His hands were frozen in layers of ice. It didn't seem like he would make it.

Then, the rope swung Kaisen into some sharp rocks, which cut open the rune pouch at his belt. The precious runes slipped out of the open pouch and fell into the blizzard to scatter around the mountain. Kaisen had no way of warming the dragon, so he began to feel its weakening effects again.

"Saren!" he shouted over the gusts of wind. "I'm not going to make it. Take the dragon egg, and finish this quest for me and Andarra."

Before Saren could object, Kaisen looked up and hurled the dragon egg into the air toward the cave. It hit the ground to Saren's left, and he picked it up. Kaisen, knowing the egg was safe, lost the strength to hold on to the rope, and he fell down the side of the mountain.

He suddenly stopped falling. But he couldn't have hit the ground yet, could he? He opened his eyes, and saw that he was still in the blizzard. Holding on to him was a dwarf girl, her brown hair waving frantically in the gales and frost forming on her face. It was Kalda.

"You didn't think I'd let you guys climb this mountain all by yourselves, did you?"

Kaisen didn't have the strength to answer. He blacked out, allowing Kalda to climb to the mountain's summit, with him in tow.

--------Chapter Ten: The Sage of Trollweiss----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kaisen awoke several hours later near a burning fire. The fire was in the center of a cave, and sitting on a steel frying pan on top of it was the dragon egg. Beside Kaisen sat Kalda.

"Saren," she called, "he's awake!"

Saren came into the room from an adjoining room. "Thank Saradomin. We thought you might never wake up."

A man came in behind him. He wore old, pale white robes and a bearskin hood. His gray hair ran down to his shoulders, and his blue eyes reflected great wisdom. "Greetings, guardian of the dragon," he said warmly. "I am Zharoun, the Sage of Trollweiss. I was beginning to wonder if my message would ever be heard."

"The egg was kept on the Blessed Isle for many years," Saren explained. "It just recently came to RuneScape."

"No matter. The point is that you are here now. I have already observed the dragon egg, and I recognize the curse."

"So you know what it takes to cure it?"

"That I do."

He continued, "But I have very little of what it takes. The rest you must go find. It will be difficult, and I know you have already been through much, but I must ask for more if you wish the dragon egg to be relieved of this curse."

Kaisen looked to Saren, and Saren nodded. "We will go find what you need," Kaisen resolved.

The sage nodded in approval. "The first thing I will need is an enhanced fire talisman." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a regular fire talisman. "The enhanced talisman will have the essence of this one, but its physical shape will be in obsidian."

Saren was puzzled. "Where can we find that?"

"The only place I know of is the TzHaar region, a system of caves underneath the Karamja Volcano. Go there and speak to Tz-Han-Kozr. He will give you what you need."

"We can do that. What else do you need?"

"One more thing: a sample of elf crystal. You can find this in the city of Lletya, in the elven forest of Isafdar. Speak to the Elf Lord of Lletya to get a piece."

"So the TzHaar region and then Isafdar, is that it?"

"Yes, if you are up to it."

"We are," said Kalda.

Kaisen looked at her. "You don't have to go. You can stay here, with your family."

"I couldn't stay here while the world is in jeopardy." Kalda smiled, her hazel eyes twinkling. "I will accompany you to the TzHaar, and in the end, we will heal this dragon egg and ensure safety for all of RuneScape from Agaben's evil once and for all."
