I just switched to a slightly older Nvidia card the client won't even load the login screen. I have no idea at this point. I've literally done everything I can think of including reinstall my entire system.

Thanks, I just spent a couple hours or so reinstalling my system again. I discovered that the system was using the os driver for the nvidia card and when I chose for it to install proprietyary drivers, it failed and wrecked my kernel. I didn't realize until I rebooted and was stuck at command line and didn't know how to get the driver fixed from there. So I'm not sure if that would have worked or not.

I'm just really surprised that suddenly, just after dxp started, I began having an incredible number of freezes or client closes. I've swapped out memory....anything I can do. No idea. Guess I'll just be waiting until something updates. No other games are crashing so I really don't think it's failing hardware.

Thanks for the help.

I can confirm the official Ubuntu version dont crash much. i dont know how to make app images but if some know how too that would be the best image to use so more people can play on other distros.we as a community need to fix our own problem. we are a redheaded stepchild that jagex does not care about

I am on Ubuntu 20.04.4 and the RuneScape client is missing the icon on the tray. There is an icon briefly when the splash screen is present, however once it gets to the login screen, the icon is gone.

It seems like the client loads a sub-process called rs2client that doesn't have an icon associated with it.

Hi Sly.

Do you have the Runescape launcher pinned to the launcher? (Favourited)

Does the game client show as a generic application icon on the launcher bar when it is running?

I have the launcher pinned, and I have a file called:
~/.local/share/applications/runescape-launcher.desktop

Containing:
[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Name=RuneScape
GenericName=RuneScape
Comment=RuneScape - A Free MMORPG from Jagex Ltd.
Icon=runescape
Terminal=false
Exec=/usr/bin/runescape-launcher %u
Categories=Game;
MimeType=x-scheme-handler/rs-launch;x-scheme-handler/rs-launchs
StartupWMClass=RuneScape

The above file makes the window manager group the game client with the launcher, so when you click the launcher icon, the client will appear as a dot on the launcher icon.
Glad to be of service :) (Powered by GPP™ - Share and Enjoy!)

Hi, i cant get Runescape to install on Ubuntu 22.04 and see that some people advise to install it through snap

Is it 100% safe and is Jagex ok with this method? As with many of us I have invested a huge amount of time in this game and dont want to risk my bank or being banned.

I'm probably being over cautious but better safe than sorry

The snap is mentioned by jagex themselves .

They do mention to use it at your own risk but as far as I know, that's more about covering themselves legally in case something goes wrong.

I know it means little but I've personally installed and used the client through various means (flatpak, snap, other distribution-specific repositories) over the last few years and have never had any issues. (Other than technical issues due to linux being a more niche platform for jagex, which means some bugs tend not to be fixed as quick as we'd hope)
