This is great, finally Jagex isn't going to be held back by the people stuck in 2007 wishing to relive their childhood on a daily basis. Maybe now we can have a new skill... This is needed, it's obvious the community can't see past their own entitled elitist attitudes and never understood why a Multi million dollar company needed to follow the advice of a bunch of nostalgic virgins who have never ran a gaming company.

Jagex take this as a lesson learnt/an experiment and take back full of your game the community doesnt have the same goals as the company. It doesn't work and OSRS is proof of that tbh.

No to any new skills. If I wanted a new skill I would go back to playing RS3. I don’t mind seeing new quest, new continents, new bosses, new mini games, because that doesn’t change the fundamental mechanics of the game. But new skills killed RS3 for me (as well as EOC).

I understand that you need more users, just like any other business. But why not use RS3 for that and leave OSRS fundamentally untouched? OSRS is like owning a collectible car. You can add small modern enhancements into it. But any fundamental changes ruins the car and drops its value.

The thing is most people who are stuck in the 2007 ways are the ones who are still committed in actually playing the game lol. If Jagex wants to cater to new comers, maybe they can keep these new updates the OG's don't want in fresh start worlds or something. Far fetched but let's be honest, without the OG's, there wouldn't even be the player base that is live today. OSRS can easily die with a forced update or updates that players don't want. Just go back to when free trade was removed, moreso known as the day Runescape died.

As an OG player, my maxed main was forced into RS3 (no one had a decision or saying) and ultimately lead to me quitting RS. Old school was one of the best things to happen because I can play the game I have always did as a kid. I feel like Jagex is headed in the right direction for disaster. History repeats itself, eh? I'm no longer surprised as to how many times Jagex has tried to force something upon the community they never wanted.

This is just rigging the system so that they can pretend they are doing what players want, when they are clearly planning to do things players do not want.

No surprise that the first thing they're running out to poll is yet another poll for a new skill.

Jagex does not have a good record of coming up with good skills. The last good skill was slayer and possibly farming.

Disaster skills caused me to just quit RS3 years ago: Divination, Summoning, and Dungeoneering. Abysmal. So bad I can't even decide which was worse.

They fail to learn the lesson Jiminy Cricket sang about so many years ago: Leave well enough alone.

You speak of OG players like they're rare but forget to realize this community are majority people who played as children and the other half is bots. If "OG" players are "keeping the game together" then why are most of them leaving due to limited content? It's obvious that Raids aren't keeping this game together for Maxxed toons so why so object a new skill so much other than the reason of "Hur dur this isn't RS3".

OSRS can't die as easy as you think, you're just imposing your own insecurities onto the game but comparing the transition from RS2 to RS3 can't be compars in OSRS as it's a completely different game. The game you play now isn't the game you played in 2007 and adding a new skill isn't game breaking however if they turned around and said we are moving from OSRS to RS4 then i would understand your concerns but OSRS isn't made out of glass it, if it was going to die this game would of died within the first years of release.

In all honestly by giving the community all this power has ruined the game and wished they just did what they wanted. Stop trying to gate keep a game which is over 20 years old it's pathetic seeing so many Mid 20's to early 30 adults trying to hold onto their childhood thru a game.

Are we going to address that Jagex has been altering poll results since this happened?

Easily verifiable if you look at poll numbers before this change, and after.

The news post speaks like someone trying to gaslight the community.

It's great to see that the Old School RuneScape team recognizes the importance of player involvement in shaping the game while acknowledging the limitations and challenges of the existing polling system. The proposed improvements and goals are aimed at creating a better experience for the player community, and they seem quite promising. Here's a breakdown of the key points:

Exciting and Empowering Polling: The team wants to make sure that the polling system remains engaging and empowering for players. They aim to enhance the sense that your input matters and leads to meaningful changes in the game.

Impromptu and Opportunistic Content: The plan is to introduce content in a more spontaneous and opportunistic manner. This could help keep the game fresh and exciting for players, as they won't always know what to expect.

Earlier Polling in the Design Process: By allowing earlier polling in the development process, players can have a more substantial impact on the content. This can avoid situations where content is already in development before player input is considered.

Building Community Consensus: Instead of creating divisions within the player base, the team aims to build a stronger consensus among the community. This will help ensure that updates are well-received by a wider range of players.

Detailed Plans for the Future: The goal is to provide more detailed and long-term plans for the game. This can help players understand the direction the game is heading and what they can expect in the future.

Flexibility for Smaller Changes: Alongside larger updates, the team aims to have more flexibility for smaller changes. This can address issues and make improvements to the game without needing to go through an extensive polling process.

These improvements suggest a commitment to maintaining the core principles of community involvement and player-driven development in Old School RuneScape while addressing some of the challenges that have arisen over time.
