Let's not forget the reason we have polling - EOC. Also, things like Sailing failing demonstrates that polling works. I completely agree that work should not begin on items until they are polled and am pretty pissed that you were working on things assuming the poll would be approved. I also think it is sketchy to not publish the results of the poll as it is running because you could just change results you don't like.

It's seems to me that there isn't a lot of OSRS institutional knowledge left. Polling is important to discourage you from making an EOC level mistake. Yes, it is important to reach out to groups who get suppressed, (Skillers, Hardcore Ironmen, etc.) by organized interests, but we are better off with a poll guided game than a developer guided game.

I understand the the reasoning behind the polling changes. Spite voting in particular is a pathetic and detrimental tool used by those who wish to share their unhappiness with the majority. Lowering the total vote percentage required was a good judgement call and I believe it will deter some spite voters. I trust Mod Ash and the rest of the Development Team. Because of that trust I will go ahead and give the "Ok" to everything in this post. Godspeed.

Not sure why I see so much negativity. I greatly appreciate the attempt to reduce wasted dev time, and make sure that people who don't see anything put into the game for the way they play get some updates occasionally as well. Overall well done, only thing that makes no sense to me is that if it is true only 6% of the players actually vote, I don't see lowering the threshold actually making a difference in representation of the community because you can't really determine how the remainder of the players feel. I think there needs to be some brainstorming on how to get more people involved in the vote.
Perhaps the mobile app could have a push notification for the poll, and tapping it opens a link to the osrs website to vote on it... Or something of that nature. Maybe players could opt into emails about it or something. Just a few on the fly ideas... But engaging more players is crucial.

the polling system is perfect as it is,
all these changes are simply made to make it easier for the developers and not lose time, but this will impact the game in ways you cant imagine

1) new ppl at jagex 10 years from now will have no clue about what the original polling system was like and what the philosophy of the game is if we change the polling system,

2) yes maybe you lose developing time , but we ( the community ) dont care, if we dont want it in the game its not coming in !
if you are too lazy to work for osrs, go find a job for rs3 mr Pokedex

my rant message is over,

now onto some in deep analisys of what you are proposing dear jagex,

In 2013 the runescape game was going in a direction that a lot of players could not accept anymore

for people who were not there, a short refresher course ;

( rs player since 2004, yes im old )

- dungeoneering is released ; while many say the skill should be a minigame
also levels are buffed to 120 ,

- eoc , some grahpical changes come along with unnacceptable designs,

- combat system is completely reworked , without any input from players

- higher and higher tier weapons are released rendering old content completely absolete.

THE REASON WE VOTED FOR OSRS IS BECAUSE WE FELT WE LOST CONTROL OF THE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE GAME

Jagex, as 1 of the 450k players that voted to bring osrs to life,

I hope you hear us and you realise this is the wrong direction for the game

if you must, please go talk to the older team members , look up their phonenumbers and reach out for their opinions, and maybe they can talk some sense into your dangerous plan that will segway the game into oblivion,

I'll add two more things. Clearly it seems that 'polling' is now intended to be a paper exercise. A lot of your 'arguments' aren't really valid. Namely that you waste time developing things before polling because you have to release things quickly. But you'd presumably put the same amount of development time in: you'd just poll earlier in the development phase. If there are delays, that is likely to be due to other factors and might well occur anyway, so that as an argument isn't an argument: it's spin.

Stop trying to justify and make it seem like yall arent wrong for changing the polling % by 5%. Going off of a survey that probably 5% of your total playerbase doesnt even see because of the where yall post them. You all keep using the statistic that only 6% of the playerbase only votes like its wrong or that more people should be voting. Yall are snakes tryin to weave your way through this with a bunch of words when we all know yall are being super dirty here. Then you bring up the polls that barely failed. THANK GOD THEY FAILED there were multiple updates that would of been HORRIBLE if they got added, and they barely failed.

Yall are way to focused about getting shit right the first time or it taking too long. Most of the playerbase if you consistently gave us good quality updates, wouldnt even be upset or have gotten to this point in the first place. Its crazy how there are mods that play this game and still act like they dont know the community. Its getting quite bad, Your game can start trending downwards again, its not immune to failing do not forget that.

I feel like this is (yet another) step in the wrong direction, I rarely post on these forums but I feel inclined to say something. In recent years, Jagex seem to cater more to the outspoken minority of streamers creating the most noise but not speaking for the silent majority (In a recent interview ex Mod Mat K mentioned this).

The fact that reducing the pass threshold of polling from 75% to 70% was already polled some years back and was rejected speaks volumes.

As for claiming that 6% of active players voting in the polls, this is extremely misleading.

If you look at the graphs for voter participation it would seem that more people vote now than anytime in OSRS history. What constitutes an "active" player anyway? Does that player figure include bots/f2p and those with lower than 300 total level as they cant vote anyway.
