I was merely using that as an example where nothing gets done at what I feel should be one of those 'obvious' spots Reach mentioned. Since it's been botted so long and all. After bots went on hiatus in 08 I actually cut yews there quite a lot, using my house to bank. It's not a bad little spot to woodcut if you can get a tree out from under the bots.
In answer to the question, no I really don't feel any of the yews around Varrock constitute an obscure location. But then I could just be biased having spent a lot of time in 06-07 as f2p and remembering the armies of bald green dudes on all those trees.
As for the bot bust events, I went along with some of those in 2011 when they were tried with players. That's the first I'm aware of attempts by Jagex to hold these 'community events'. And it was actually started, spearheaded, and organized by players to begin with. After Jagex finally responded to those players who wanted them involved, they turned the events into a farcical publicity stunt (youtube videos and all!) in an attempt to make themselves look proactive. I doubt this is much different, I question the effectiveness of these stunts, and I will never go again.
