Dev Blog: Roof Top Agility

The winner of the Player Designed Content competition was Bigredjapan with his idea called Roof-leaping: Agility reborn! A big congratulations for Bigredjapan, here is how we see the update working.

Each agility course will be a course that runs around the rooftops of a city. You will need to cross numerous agility obstacles to complete the course. Each obstacle you complete will give you agility xp. If you complete the whole course, you will receive a bonus amount of xp. If you fail an obstacle you will fall to the streets below and have to start the course again.

Giving XP rates now is a very difficult thing to do as we need to do a lot of testing to see how quickly each course can be done... for that we need to have the courses built. The aim of the XP rates is that it shouldn't replace the need to use the existing Agility Courses, although at some levels it may be more beneficial to use the Roof Top Courses.

Along the agility courses you may also be lucky enough to find a Mark of Grace, collect enough of these to trade them at Rogues Den for a new agility outfit.

Throughout the world you may also find some hidden shortcuts that take you to some rooftops of famous landmarks. Will you be able to find them all?

Agility courses

Draynor Village – level 10

Al Kharid – level 20

Varrock – level 30

Canifis – level 40

Falador – level 50

Seers – level 60

Pollnivneach – level 70

Rellekka – level 80

Ardougne – level 90

Agility suit

Individual items in the agility suit will not be as good as the existing weight reduction items, however the suit will be designed to look together which is a consideration for many of you. The tokens needed to collect these items will not be tradeable and to own a complete set will be something which will highlight you as a high level agility player.

  • Graceful hood -3 Kg weight reduction
  • Graceful cape -4 Kg weight reduction
  • Graceful body -5 Kg weight reduction
  • Graceful legs -6 Kg weight reduction
  • Graceful gloves -3 Kg weight reduction
  • Graceful boots -4 Kg weight reduction

Nice, I like the Idea of new agile gear, I posted a thread in feedback and suggestions about improving the Rogues Den maze with Rogues gear getting something similar to this gear, What about adding a set affect for the full set?

Perhaps wearing the full set will increase the rate of energy recovery by just a small amount, not enough to make it overpowered, but enough to make thecompleted set give a little extra bonus?

I loved the looks of my Rogues gear back in the old days, you didn't perchance use it as the model for this new set and if not, please do!

Woah, never thought I'd be able to say this but ....

WOOT! first post ;P
Ha ha, made you look ;)

That sounds really cool :)
Everything stated here is forwarded from a major corporation. Nothing here is my opinion. Enjoy your salad.

Awesome! (From a 99 Agiler)

Can't wait to see some rewards and great content out of this!

I hope the rewards have no defence requirement so that all account builds can use them! It'd be unfair to put rewards on them which only require Agility then add another random requirement. You could make them have pretty useful stats like it was pre-eoc also.

I assume you will have a higher token rate at higher agility/higher tier courses? Or do you guys think it'd be completely random? I liked it having a 85 Agility requirement pre-eoc.

The Al Kharid & Pollnivneach courses look really fun & graphically pleasing, the Ardy one doesn't look so enticing based on the description of animations :P Could deal with it but those funner "Zip Line" and "Running Jump" sound pretty sweet.

This!

I never did understand why we had to train hunting to wear agility related capes or have def levels to wear agile gear from the advanced courses, not that I object to training hunter or defense when I get around to it, but agility should be the requirement to wear agile gear rather than a second unrelated skill.
Ha ha, made you look ;)

My thoughts:

Courses look well set out, and it will potentially give high level training options.

Concerns:

Could kill off already existing methods of training until, or if it doesn't at least match the exp rates be dead content itself, this is a possibility given the ability to fail courses. The ability to fail courses also leads me to believe that the level 80 course for instance will be better exp than the level 90 course. This I believe was one of the problems with the high level agility courses in rs3.

The rewards aren't new or unique and high level agility courses being rewarded with weight reducing gear is just rehashing rs3 content, something Jagex supposedly wished to avoid, this could avoided if for instance this update was mixed with some thieving, at a few sections of the lap there are chests, these chests can only be attempted once per lap, succeeding gives rewards that scale up with the higher level courses and require the same thieving level as the course requires in agility. Failing the chests does damage, succeeding has the potential to earn loot (some being common, some things being rare) and thieving exp. Alternatively ignoring the chests gives better agility exp as you're not distracted by these chests.

Cheers

Chris

There are no plans to add any requirements to the new outfit, so agility pures can purchase them and wear them. As for the other ideas in the competition, we want to use as many as possible as there were some awesome ideas.
