I created my account in 2003, and I played until EOC ruined the game. Having recently returned this year, I found that the game was in a good state. Thoughtful polls were added, new quests were being implemented, and slight changes for the betterment of the community and the game as a whole were being done with the COMMUNITY in mind.
The community is what created this game, and the community is what can end this game...again.
Make no mistake, every single player who has spent any meaningful amount of time in this game realizes that the unpolled changes were done in that way because they would NOT have passed polling with the community player base.
Make no mistake, every single player who experienced the shift from Oldschool RS2 into EOC/RS3 is very aware that you have been trying to implement changes that take the current OSRS model towards that new pay model.
You have had the exceptional luck to reignite a game that you, as a company, killed. It's understandable that you want to find new monetary aspects within it because of the team commitment and growth that it has had, but the way to that is not repeating the same mistakes in slow motion. If you want to grow your playerbase, as well as your ROI, then you need to start investing in the community rather than tinkering with something that has been working for years.
The golden age of Runescape was flush with clans, skillers, roleplayers, young, old, and so much more, and we had legends in the game. We had people that were something to rally around, and even JMods cared enough to come in game and share in those events. Invest in the people playing the game by creating community events, in game contests, special unique rewards that are worth chasing(think a partyhat, it was useless, but it was a goal for so many people).
I, like many other awake and aware players, will have no issue cancelling membership if you continue to release unpolled updates.
Don't kill the game.
We remember-As should you
