I do not understand why Jagex cant creat some sort of program that tracks abot as soon as its turned on......its really simple they all follow the same patern and almost only have 1 skill raised. They neve respond when we talk to em. I myself can tell who is a bot and who is not but Jagex can't?????????? Let me see......oh yeah bottter pay for membership, nevermind it makes sens now. JAgex mind: (money over consumer satifasction)

Fantastic job and fantastic read as always, Reach. (If you only posted a little more you'd be tied with Ash as my favourite!)

What I'd like to know -- I totally understand if you can't answer this -- is exactly how does BotWatch work? Namely the "fine tunes" term that was thrown about in the previous status update. How would it do that?

I had an idea on how it could do it, it's not very good, just a passing thought, but if you could correct it that would be great! My idea is that BotWatch searches for patterns within bot behaviour, if the prerequisites match then BotWatch would proceed with the banhammer. That's all well and good but what if a new type of bot emerged, would BotWatch 'adapt' and recognise the new system? Would reporting a suspected bot alert the system to those new patterns? Was the "fine tune" lark a simple bit of PR jargon? Or is it something completely different?

I'm not looking for an answer which would reveal Jagex's secrets, as lifting the curtain on that one helps the cheaters avoid their punishment more than it does help the non-cheaters. More 'if I reported someone, what information does Jagex extract and use from the report?'

Thanks!

Instead of requiring people to report bots, can you not simply follow the same procedure that you would on an account reported for macroing, to every account? In other words treat every account as if its been reported for macroing to determine who is guilty or not.

This would catch more bots and if you're already banning 200k+ bots, it shouldn't be that much of an increase in volume to make this infeasible.

Mod Reach

You were very helpful to me and my friend in the past months. What I would like to address is a remaining concern of mine.

How does the programme tell the difference between someone who is botting and, for instance, someone who is standing in a bank alching, fletching etc., for a long time, quite legititmately?

I'd really like to know that it is safe now to raise these repetitive skills without being anxious about being accused of botting.

Many thanks

Rav3n :-)

I hope that you stop the rare collecting bots, please. I have not been able to get one single rare except a scythe(and I have tried, until I finally gave up) because of them hopping in all spots. It has made me not even want to play any more, and I rarely even log into Runescape any more because of this. Please fix this. Logging in less due to bots! I do not even play EOC anymore, so if I can not have any fun in OSRS due to bots, then there will not be any more reason for me to continue to pay for any membership. PLEASE help the legit players to be able to get rares also.

this is what i want to know myself,
just training any skills gives me theses feelings that anyone walking past or just standing near me is just watching me thinking i may be a bot, i remember getting 99 agility on my eoc account few years back the amount of people i had calling me a bot just puts you down on the achievements you gain LEGIT makes you want to rage at them! lol

Same here, Warrior Lady

I never got one rare, not one - and it was not for want of trying, but everywhere there were level 3's and 4's hopping around, leaving the rest of us no chance at all.

I agree, the number of bots hopping rare spawns Just made me give up on hunting for rares, I could not compete. Yes there were legitimate players hopping worlds too, and I tried hopping worlds some myself, but there were some obvious bots who were not getting banned. I reported a few that I could tell were definitely bots. The way I knew was they would get stuck on one world and log in and out on the same world every 2 seconds or so. I hope Jagex will look at accounts who collected a lot of rares from one spot and check them for botting, and hope they can tell the difference from a legit player and a bot.

I managed to find only one tradeable rare. Only the untradeable rares are not botted heavily. I think the method rares are being distributed makes it too easy for bots and too hard for real players to compete to find them and should be changed. I'd like random events to hand out rares to players, which would be more fair to real players, and maybe could catch bots so they could be banned since random events could possibly catch unsuspecting bots.

Agreed, Transcendent - a much fairer system, for sure.
