I've just been reading through the thread, from where I left off on Friday night. Thanks for your posts, everyone. While I won't be able to answer every question individually from the last 20-ish pages, I'll address some of the bigger topics:
Adamant bars:
Quite simply, we think it'd be bad for the game if we introduce such a big source of the bars. It's not okay to be able to camp there all day and return with a massive stack of adamant bars; miners ought to have a reasonable chance to find a market for the adamantite and the coal required to smelt it. So, if you vote to bring back the GWD, you're voting for it with a nerfed version of that feature.
I would hope between the other monsters, the bosses, the new weapons and armour, etc. there are enough other things in the GWD to make the dungeon remain desirable overall.
So what we're offering you in the poll is a version of the GWD, taken from 2007, with various launch bugs fixed, hopefully fewer server load issues, and no massive over-supply of adamant bars. You'll be free to vote Yes or No to this.
We're inviting you to customise various bits of the dungeon via additional polls, such as letting you decide whether or not you want the boss doors to be one-way, or letting you request additional weapons to counter-balance the melee focus of the dungeon's main weapons. However, the adamant bar drop was badly balanced in 2007, and it'd be badly balanced if we did it again; we made it clear as early as March that we'd have to address bugs and game integrity issues as they arose.
Damage soaking amulet:
The hitpoints scale goes up to 99; the max hits of weapons are creeping higher and higher, especially if we launch the GWD with high-end weapons in it. Good armour makes you less likely to take any damage at all, but sometimes you'll still take the brunt of a hitsplat that wipes off much of your total health. That's why the amulet was designed for protection, not for improving your offensive capabilities.
And, since various people have said they don't want the GWD because it'd devalue Barrows kit, the amulet was designed to fit alongside Barrows kit.
It's okay if you don't want it. If Barrows kit eventually does become seriously devalued, we'll be open to running future polls with alternative ideas for addressing the matter. If it's just a fuss over nothing, and Barrows kit continues to do just fine, we won't have to.
Staff of Light melee stats:
The SoL was a one-handed weapon before, and that's what we had in mind when we wrote in the blog about "
a magic weapon similar to the Staff of Light
". It had fairly high melee stats, hence the Attack requirement.
If it doesn't pass on this occasion, we can certainly offer a different version.
Just in general:
Even if you understand every aspect of combat...
... and know exactly how the game should be designed...
... and can propose a great solution to every problem...
... your ideas will still risk being lost if you post them in great big paragraphs with sentences that run on and on!
Try to structure your ideas clearly. No-one should be judging your ideas just by your English spelling and grammar, but you can still try to use clear formatting and a bit of structure to help make it all readable.
