I feel Zulrah needed a nerf, but this is probably too much. The serpentine helm should at least inflict poison. These are two really confusing updates.
Perhaps a lot of this backlash is due to people judging the changed content before playing it and drawing the conclusion that it's a lot worse than it is. The void changes might not be too much of a detriment to the void pures, perhaps.
I will say that this is pretty bad for iron men, but you could also argue that the iron man mode is supposed to be a challenge. I am happy to take the position that OSRS is supposed to be the slow grind, more challenging version of Runescape. A lot of us are forgetting we came here because RS3 was too different or too easy. Well, OSRS is difficult and slow and that's the type of Runescape I am happy to play.
When it comes to balancing content, take a leaf out of the MOBAs book. Be prepared to nudge it forward and backward as much as you need to in order to find a balance within the game. If it turns out that Zulrah is now not worth doing, you may need to nudge the drops back up again.
Perhaps make it clear to everyone that these changes don't have to be permanent, as there's no reason they should be. Make everyone aware you're willing to keep going until you find a balanced spot for Zulrah (or other content) that doesn't make it simply too good for money making but also doesn't upset the players. If the players understand that you're willing to nerf
and
buff things over time to keep them in balance with the current state of the game, there may not be quite the resistance to seemingly controversial changes.
