Like I posted earlier in this thread, cancelling game updates would not help the sysadmins do what they're doing, so there's nothing to be gained from stopping updates.

We appreciate you're very frustrated that you can't log in to play reliably, but please understand that the sysadmins are already doing what they can to block the attacks that cause the problems. It's not that we're failing to pay attention to you - indeed, I've explained this elsewhere in this thread for another player who asked

I understand the audio team is able to edit sound effects in the OSRS format these days - something we couldn't do back in 2013 when we started out again with no dev tools available - though our access to their time is limited.

Lest one get the wrong impression, the OSRS servers are not getting more DDOS attacks than the RS3 ones because they're in some way cheap or inferior. It's up to the attacker which version of the game they wish to target. Though postponing the competition seems reasonable to me.
