If the poll for changing it had failed, that would likely have been the next thing to try. But a pretty substantial supermajority of players seemed happy to have the change applied directly without needing to introduce alternate forms of the items and a recolouring system.

I think there's a very wide gap between their current prices and "dirt cheap".

I don't remember him saying that; it has never been possible to hotfix new items into the game, so any such offer could not have been serious (or sincere).
