I feel like an offer shouldn't remain up if a player is offline. One huge issue I have currently with the ***** trading page is that people post offers and then they're offline. I had to try about 15 different people for lockpicks yesterday because 14/15 were offline. But I also feel like world hopping shouldn't cancel your post out. I was originally very against changing the trading system but this will be great once we get the kinks worked out. Thanks guys!

I have not found the RS forums to be fast or efficient, unless they have changed since I used them last. My problem would be that I would start out in the OSRS section of the forums, but a search would land me in the RS3 section. If they could be totally separate, that would be fine.

For example, some seeds and potions are rarely traded (like mushroom spores, ale yeast, and hunter pots). You either have to wade through page after page of commonly traded items to find them or do a search, and searches do not tell you which section of the forums you have landed in.

So I repeat, if people cannot SEE offers if the other person is offline, how are they to know anyone is interested in buying or selling them? The offer should be greyed out, but visible. And if the player names are included on the trade screen (as they were not with the GE), they can be added to your friend list so that you can contact them directly when both parties are online. Is it possible to have the trading post give a box to check to see offline offers? What about the ability to sort offers by price/number of items for sale/online status?

My main concern is that the size of the screen will limit how many offers can be viewed per page, and without the ability to sort the offers (being forced to view them by posting date only) will potentially require large chunks of time to wade through all of the offers to find one that you agree with. If you can choose to only view offers with X number of items (or more) it would weed out all the offers of only 1 or 2 when you want 2000.

Jmods, thank you for addressing so many questions/concerns and listening to people's opinions before making concrete decisions. I appreciate that greatly.

I like every aspect about this new trading system, at least this way we will still be in control of the trading prices. Also I like the overall idea of the, "list your item", for other players to see and then going to meet them in their world as you do now! :)

I love this idea and I cannot wait for the update!
Thank you, Jagex!

Maybe, but this is JUST like the G.E on EOC... all its going to really do either way you look at it, drop prices on items that would be label such as "odd and ends" like your examples. If trades can be made infinitely with nearly infinite supply, then where would the demand come in?

I appreciate the OSRS team choosing to poll the trading solution.

We should vote on the following options:

1) Auction House in a unique location (Falador)
2) Grand Exchange, with the main central Exchange spot (as it was in 2007)
3) No change to the current trading system

Offering these three options would simplify things, because each option represents a non-existent, up to a fully automated trading system.

Honestly, the GE in November of 2007 was perfectly social, and very convenient.

That's my opinion, but I feel like a lot of people just want to get their items quickly, so they can focus on the most important part of RuneScape: the gameplay.

And by the way, the players who are against the Grand Exchange , really have to make an exception for Godwars .

Why?

Because OSRS as it was released, didn't have Godwars. But we eventually allowed it.

3 months later, and an easier trading system?

Seems reasonable.

Original Release:

God Wars Dungeon : August 28, 2007
The Grand Exchange : November 26, 2007

"This system is what we will offer first. If this system doesn’t achieve 75% approval, there will be no additional trading system added to the game."

I am confused.

This system is what we will offer first.
Implies you might have completely different ideas on different systems and this is just the first you are offering.

But then next sentence you pretty much say, this is all we will offer. Take it or leave it and get nothing?
:P

I have some ideas for the problem of offer disappearing when hopping worlds.
The ideas are separate.

- The offer should tell whether the players is online or not.
- The offer disappears when logged out and reappears when logged in.
- The player must manually enable the offer again from the trading post, or an item similar to Enchanted Gem

Also, I think there should be somekind of a limit how many offers of the same item one can have to control excessive spam. For example, while trying to put another offer of the same item, you'd get a message saying

"You cannot have two buy (sell) offers at the same item of the same time."

Here are some ideas that went through my head while reading this thread.
I didn't read the whole thread so many of my ideas may have already been said :V

Edit: My opinion is that Grand Exchange made merching too easy, which allowed even more gold selling. It also made trading rare and took a big slice of the old school feel away. I really am a bit scared of this, but we already have this **be which kind of ruins the trading, so this new system is not a big game-changer. Just leave the trading original, do not make it so the player can be training skills while merching at the same time.
Also when the Grand Exchange came out, I feel all the NPC shops went dead.
This is something what really made me sad. General stores once were full of player-made items, and they even had some value. I remember how cool it was to learn to make a crossbow. Varrock only sold a basic one, so I had to mine some ore, smelt it, make limbs, burn some meat into sinew, etc. It was exciting and fun. Don't make a system which allows Imp Catcher to be completed in 5 minutes.

These are the thoughts of a Runescape player since 2005.
Thank you for all the effort to make this happen again. Now don't ruin it.
