The Smithing perk is a travesty, and I believe that issue has been beaten to death so far.

I will, however, suggest a revision to the perk which could act as a valuable alternative.

Suggestion: When worn, the Smithing cape increases the gold reduction when repairing barrows armor on an armour stand from 50% to 65%

Currently, 99 smithing grants a 50% reduction in cost. Increasing this reduction would save 99 smithers a small amount of cash in repairing barrows armor.

To repair a full set of armor the cost is a total of: 166,650gp with 99 smithing. If the reduction while wearing the smithing cape were increased to 65%, the total amount of gold required would be: 114,923gp.

The perk saves the 99 smither 51,727 gp. Saving 51k whenever barrows armor needs to be repaired is a small and relevant reward. This reward could be scaled if one wished.

Great update, think more people will get grinding now because of the skillcapes' usability now! :) They were kinda useless in the past, but I always thought they were the coolest type of capes in the game. Get grinding 'scapers! JUST DO IT! :D

The skillcape perks were intended to have "practical" uses/advantages, not to make it have a huge impact on the game.

Finally skill capes are made useful again! EXCEPT the smithing skill cape. I dont really think anyone at lvl 99 smithing cares about the uses of goldsmithing gauntles. How about they act as a permanent ring of forging? never wasting iron ore should be a bonus at lvl 99 smithing anyway.
