I just think 10,000 hits is somewhat ridiculously low.
While I can see destroying whips has the potential to make high level slayer more profitable, and as an avid slayer, I am all in favour of that, a quick bit of maths:
Whip attacks every 2.4 seconds.
10,000 hits equates to 24,000 seconds of non stop combat.
24,00 seconds is 400 minutes.
400 minutes is 6 hours and 40 minutes of combat.
So you're adding an item that IRREVERSIBLY DESTROYS your weapon for the sake of 1 extra damage, and a minor accuracy increase...for less than 7 hours. Even chaotics (not that I'm advocating adding them!) lasted for longer than that.
At the very least, I think making them last for 10 hours of combat to bring them in line with barrows equipment would be a suitable course of action.
While the idea of buffing one of the most commonly used weapons in OSRS isn't at all a bad idea, buffing it in such a way as to increase stats by such a minor amount, at the cost of destroying the weapon is, I don't personally feel, a good way to go about it.
Perhaps the possibility of being left with a 'damaged' whip where the tentacle has 'corroded' it, requiring reparation at a POH stand, or at Bob in Lumbridge for a fee would be better. Or a 'ritual of subjugation' whereby you pay an individual a gold fee to 'subdue' your tentacle so that it's not capable of damaging the whip. This could act as a money sink. Alternatively, as some people have suggested, a one-off payment of multiple whips to forever sate the appetite of the tentacle.
Either way, I feel that the stats need considerable improvement to warrant total destruction of a weapon.
