With the launch of the Rejuvenating the Wilderness project last week, there has been loads of feedback from the community. Your feedback is essential to making every update to Old School as good as it can be. We have being going through your feedback and we will be making some changes based on it.
Some of these changes are minor balancing issues, so we won’t be polling those, while the others will be polled to you. We are really keen to keep the momentum going for the Wilderness update so we’ll be adding a poll which starts tomorrow and will last until Monday morning.
Balancing changes
-
Stop the level 129 rogues in the Rogues’ Castle from being lured into the castle and around the back of the castle, thus giving players easy access to the thieving chests.
-
The drop tables for Callisto, Vet’ion and Vemenatis will be buffed to offer a better return.
-
Some more chinchompas will spawn at the hunting ground in the Wilderness. Some scenery will also be placed to keep the chinchompas closer together which will make using 6 traps more worthwhile.
-
Dark fishing bait will be added to the level 18 Zombies in the Wilderness. Dark fishing bait will also be make a more common drop from those monsters that currently drop it.
-
Respawn rates in the Resource area will be increased.
-
We will review the drop rates of the Ecumenical key to make the drops more consistent.
- The drop table of the lava dragons will also receive a buff.
These changes should be ready for release on Thursday this week.
Wilderness Poll 2
We have received a lot of new ideas for tweaks to the Wilderness update and we would like to run these questions in a poll starting tomorrow.
Demi Bosses
There have been a lot of requests for some of the unique items that the demi bosses have and as such we thought we should add them to their respective drop tables. We want to add the crazed archaeologist’s fedora to his drop table as well as adding the chaos creature pet as a rare drop to the chaos fanatic and the chaos elemental’s drop table. The chaos creature pet will not replace any existing drops on the drop table, when the pet is following you it will not say anything or appear on the minimap.
Question: Should the crazed archaeologist have his fedora added to his drop table as a reward?
Question: Should the chaos fanatic and chaos elemental have the chaos creature pet added to their drop lists as a rare drop? This drop won’t replace any existing drops and when the pet is following you it will not talk or appear on the minimap.
Fountain of Rune
We have also had a whole load of ideas to upgrade the fountain of rune. One idea is to allow players to charge their amulet of glory on the fountain of rune so it receives 5 charges instead of the usual 4. You will still need to have completed Heroes Quest to do this and it won’t work on noted amulets of glory.
Another use for the fountain of rune is to allow the ring of wealth to be charged there so it gives you 5 charges to teleport to four new locations. These locations are Miscellania, Varrock town square, Falador Park and to Dondakan in the Keldagrim mine.
Question: Should you be able to recharge your amulet of glory at the fountain of rune and receive 5 charges rather than the usual 4?
Question: Should you be able to charge your ring of wealth at the fountain of rune and receive 5 charges to teleport to either Miscellania, Varrock town square, Falador Park or to Dondakan in the Keldagrim mine?
Bosses
We have received a lot of feedback about adding unique rewards to the three Wilderness bosses. We would like to add armour sets similar to ancient warrior armour sets of Morrigan, Statius and Zuriel to the bosses drop tables. We would only add the armour, we would not add the ancient warrior weapons as many of you consider these somewhat overpowered. We would add a different set to each boss which will add an incentive to visit all the bosses. The armour will require 78 defence to equip and will degrade after one hour of combat. Although we can create items with the correct stats, at present we are unable to make new models for these items so we will need to utilise existing models.
The stats of the ancient warrior armour are:
Question: Should we add ancient warrior armour sets (not the weapons) similar to the armour sets of Morrigan, Statius and Zuriel to the drop lists of the three Wilderness bosses?
Lava Dragons
We would like to add another drop the lava dragons in addition to the buff they are already receiving. We would like lava dragons to drop a lava dragon scale which can be used to make an extended antifire potion.
When you grind a lava dragon scale it will create some stackable fragments. You can use one fragment per dose on the anti dragonfire potion to turn it into an extended antifire potion. The extended antifire potion will work the same way as the antifire potion but will last for a total of 12 minutes. You will need level 84 herblore to make this potion and it will be tradable. To create the barbarian mix you will need level 91 herblore.
Question: Should the lava dragon drop a lava dragon scale which can be used to make extended antifire potions?
Resources & Rewards
Here are a number of questions which address the feedback many of you have given about the different resources in the Wilderness update.
Question: Should we add an npc inside the resource area who can note any item gained from the area for the cost of 50gp per item?
Question: While chopping the log left from a dead ent, should you have a chance of getting a birds nest?
Question: Should dark crabs heal 23 instead of 22?
Question: Should the red chinchompas in the Wilderness be changed to become black chinchompas with a hunting requirement of 73 and ranged requirement of 65? These will be slightly more powerful than red chinchompas.
Question: Should there be a chance to loot hard level clue scrolls from the chests in the Rogues’ Castle?
Question: Should we increase the limit for the Ecumenical keys to 5?
Queston: Should God dragonhide armour and God rune armour which are acquired from clue scrolls receive a prayer bonus of +1 per item?
Other Wilderness Changes
A number of players have asked to have the Kill/Death interface work in PvP worlds too. This will allow players to add to their KDR when killing on a PvP world. So this number cannot be farmed, a kill or death will only count towards it if you are within approximately 30 squares of the respawn points in Lumbridge, Falador, Seers Village and Edgeville. If you kill someone in any level of the Wilderness on a PvP world it will count to your KDR.
Question: Should we allow players to add to their Kill/Death count in PvP worlds in the vicinity of the repawn points?
Some feedback has suggested that we alter the dragon hatchet’s special attack to be in line with the dragon pickaxe special attack. We would like to poll that we change the dragon hatchet’s special attack to give you a +3 bonus to your woodcutting level temporarily.
Question: Should we replace the dragon hatchet’s special attack with an ability which will temporarily increase your woodcutting level by 3?
Slayer
Okay, so this isn’t strictly Wilderness related, but it is a question we want to poll to you urgently. We would like to add the dragon platebody as a reward from the new slayer monster, the smoke devil, and its boss equivalent.
Question: Should the new slayer monster and its boss drop the dragon platebody?
Other updates
Of course, we have not forgotten about the other updates that you are still waiting for. Alongside the balancing changes listed above we will be updating Thessalia and the hairdresser this week to offer a larger selection of clothes and haircuts to change your base model too. On top of that, work continues on the Easter update, the new slayer monster and bosses and the Motherlode Mine.
As usual tune in to our Q&A on Thursday at 5pm GMT on Twitch TV where will show you the latest updates we have been working on.
