To the people who keep saying "voting no because lack of information". A JMod said on reddit that they will release another dev blog packed with new information and details this friday. Hold your horses and stop jumping the gun.

Jumpin' the gun?

The FIRST dev blog said:

"We will be releasing another developer blog early next week with more specific information and reacting to any and all feedback we receive."

That didn't happen. They LIED.

There is no reason to believe the claim of more information this Friday is true and it's NOT jumpin' the gun.

I held those flippin' horses til this dev blog on the statement that more information would be in it (not that they would finally share info on the RSOF for OSRS that reddit and twitter BOTH already had!).

You do realize this is the 2nd dev blog reacting to their feedback......how the.... i don't even know what to say to this.....

These were answers to many many many of the questions people posted on the first dev blog.

What info does this devblog provide that hasn't already been offered on reddit AND twitter?

If anything, this update makes me more scared than before.

You've basically promised it's going to have a huge impact on the OSRS we know today. I obviously can't speak for everyone but I think you're going the wrong direction for this specific version of the game.

I really don't trust the current team to make these kinds of changes, nor do I necessarily want them in the first place.

100% support for sailing

From 2008 to now I've been waiting for this skill. Now it seems so close I can almost touch it. I really hope the community doesn't throw what i consider an amazing opportunity away. Keep up the good work guys and I look forward to reading the next dev blog.

As for the matter of players voting no on this concept i personally see no value in voting no. If you are not interested in the skill in any way nothing forces you to participate in it. But you would rather have it removed for all than just ignore it when its implemented? Yes it will have a effect on the game but so does every single update both big and small and the community evolves around it. I don't see this as anything different than other moderate updates to the game such as God wars or the numerous slayer expansions and we all know how dead set against the idea of God wars the community was originally.
In order to move forward in life you sometimes need to take a step back.

This isn't a Dev Blog it's just a crappy Q&A that answers questions that could've already been answered if Jagex would simply communicate with players in their own Official Forums.

Though it should be noted, it seems some hidden questions were answered:

Will we ever see skills added to Old School that RS3 doesn't have? No, the only possible skills this community will support are Dungeoneering and Summoning.

Will this game be taken in a different direction than RS3? No, the developers can't be bothered to put enough effort into informing players about any original ideas (or even ideas stolen from players) to convince players to vote.

We got way more information about "Deadman Mode" in the first Dev Blog regarding it, let alone the 2nd Dev Blog. It's apparent that Jagex would rather just keep adding more pvp content than actual content and won't even discuss ideas with players (at least not in these forums)

When the first Sailing Dev Blog went up, I thought "Hey, maybe they've taken the time to actually read San's thread finally." With this Q&A though it's lost that feeling, the hype is over and any potential support has already faded.

All we're left with is another topic that has divided the community, more animosity towards Sailing and more demand for Dungeoneering (because players can't get past the idea that Sailing could be different while using the words "resource areas" and "exploring&quot ;) . The majority of players left playing this game don't want anything but Pre-EoC, same skills, same quests, toolbelts and even Vet Capes brought over.

This could've been a great addition to Old School, something original that made it abundantly clear that Old School is not just RS3 before the updates, set on the same path to update exactly the same way, adding in exactly the same content and suffering exactly the same fate, and doomed to simply be "revived" again and again.

This dev blog just panders to some common complaints against sailing and doesn't explain the fundamentals of how the act of sailing itself will work to actually vote on it.

Everything that sailing brings to the table already has an established way of entering the game. The selling points of sailing are just stuff we could have already.

There's still no valid reason I can see you making for sailing being a skill because its already overlapping with construction with shipbuilding and the act of sailing itself doesn't seem to be workable from my perspective inside the OSRS engine. The draw distance is just too small and the ships would have to be too small as well, how it could be made interesting and fun to control maneuvering around other people populating the seas especially in PvP.

You can still bribe us with rewards not related to sailing at all (riguour, new training places for other skills, permanent islands unlocked and so on) but its just not a selling point or covering up for how the fundamentals of the skill are weak.

"originally"...yea, then players quit. Originally this server wasn't supposed to get updates at all, it was supposed to be the awesome game from back in 2007, that's what we all voted for, but Jagex couldn't let it stay stagnant and bring in more players than RS3, that wouldn't look good on their part...

"community evolves around it"...you mean shrinks, as those who didn't want certain updates are told to "ignore it or quit" because the "majority" wanted it and that's how the game is going to be from now on..You'll notice there's never any polls to "remove" content, only to "add" as if to say, even Jmods don't want any content removed, never even stopping to ask the community..

"just ignore it"...or quit, right? because people who oppose any update you want should just leave so you can have the game updated how you want it..

Let me ask this, since you're "100% support"...what pushed you to 100%? What about this skill sounds so amazing that you're 100% in favor of it?

I'm glad to hear that you guys aren't going to push Summoning/Dungeoneering. I think that adding new unique content to Oldschool is the way to go instead of doing the same thing as we did earlier pre-eoc. It is better to learn from our mistakes than to do them again.
