It isn't jagex's 'mistake' that so many players blindly believed that the supermajority of the community would support what they wanted.
The greatest mistake I've seen in this 'rares' issue is that so many people didn't take the time to think about POSSIBLE outcomes, before voting 'yes' on that very first question about these items... well that, and the fact that so many hold these paper hats in a higher regard than they do the old game.
Debatable, the fact the polls were such a flop shows that there have been mistakes. You say people didn't think, as though you expected everyone to. You're too logical and tunnel visioned about facts and statements. It's been obvious from the start, to the end, what the majority want, and the fact that the outcome is so far away from what people what, to me, shows there has certainly been mistakes.
Also the way the polls were worded was supposedly to do with what the community was talking about (great logic), yet now around 90% of things to do with rares are talking about how messed up the polls have ended up.
They've been consistent in certain ways (which you love) but not so much in others. I know you'll revert to your same phrase you repeat to everyone. But even you must face up to this outcome being the wrong one (based on what people want), even if it's the right one technically (based on their rules).
How silly of me to believe everyone capable of thinking? rofl
It's not about what the majority want. It's about what the supermajority want (or in this case, didn't support).
Yes, plenty are claiming how 'messed up' the polls were now.. but IMO that's nothing more than cries of those who didn't get what they wanted... and now want that nobody should enjoy these cosmetic items simply because they didn't get what they wanted.
