As a player who started runescape in 2003...Please don't bring the GE back...It was never really part of 07 and is not needed in this game! The reason I play 07 is because Rs' glory days were in 2003-2007.
It defeats so many objectives of playing the game in my opinion.
- Removes the spirit of p2p trading completely.
- Gaining instant access to any item you needs discourages p2p community, player interaction and an effort or challange to get a particular item.
- Caters to players looking for the easy option / new players (instant access to items)
- Merchanting clans and price manipulation on every day use items...
- 07 is largely based on nostalgia...and the GE is just an insult to that premise.

The reason I can't devote to OSRS, and will most likely unsubscribe, is because even if the GE doesn't pass, the OSRS-Team will expand the Trading Post. And as the Trading Post is at the moment is already barely acceptable.
I am all for the content-updates and understand that the OSRS-Team have to be occupied, but these "simplifying"-updates just aren't the way. Unfortunately, this is the direction the game is and will continue to go.
It's like something that isn't broken, is trying to be fixed.
...back to Azeroth I guess.
