First of all, I want to put out there that I don't support the GE being added into OSRS. With that in mind, these are my reasons why:

It lessens player interaction
- People here argued that "Oh the only interactions are "'oh meet me here"' and "'my w"' but those aren't the only interactions that will be smothered by the GE. At the moment, people still have bank sales, they chat as they train skills like woodcutting, less experienced players ask for help inside banks (and surprisingly, a lot of the times I see nice people helping them out, giving them small items, sets etc.)

It changes the economy (how good or bad that change is cannot be established until after the change, if it occurs)
- As a student majoring in economics, I know how much this would affect the OSRS economy. The main part being a completely supply-and-demand-based economy, which would most likely inflate the prices of most individual items while bulk items drop relative to these individual items. This would make each gp worth less and make it harder for new players and the less experienced players from farming enough to get whatever they need. Most likely there will also be less skillers in the game because of the low profitability.

These two are my two main reasons for being against the GE and are the potential changes I want people to know about when they are voting. With that said though, after reading through about 20 pages of this thread I see that the main reason people want the GE would be for convenience. Based on that assumption, this is my proposed solution to this problem. If anyone has reasons against this idea which isn't along the lines of 'merchants will make less' or 'flipping items won't work', then please let me know.

I propose a GE system that is centered on convenience. Exactly the same as the GE system from 07rs but with a tax system implemented on a % of gp of the item sold. This tax system will only affect trades inside the

...Grand Exchange, and manual trades will still occur exactly the same with no tax.

Pros for this idea:

- people will still get convenience of buying small/bulk items which they need instantly such as seeds, herbs, random questing items while 'bigger' items like the Bandos Tassets or Armadyl Godsword would still be traded through manual trades to avoid the tax

- there will still be interactions in game such as bank sales and chatting while skilling <--- theres an economic reasoning behind why people would still skill more but I think my post is long enough as it is so I'll leave it out

- the economy won't take as big of a hit in changes as people would be able to adjust much more quickly

- there are a few more smaller pros but I'm sure the people that actually play OSRS will be able to see this by themselves

Cons:

I actually don't see any yet but that may be because I'm being too optimistic, so please reply and let me know if you can see any.

In my opinion, I think this solution covers players of both sides of the argument such as 'losing nostalgia', 'killing the economy', 'convenience' etc. And would keep players from quitting the game again because of update disagreements (which would be such a sad thing because I know we all love this version of the game that we fought and succeeded in bringing back)

Cheers!
- an optimistic, OSRS-loving player :)
PS. If this idea gets enough positive feedback and support, please poll it officially and announce it on the main page so other people will be aware and can voice their opinions as well.

I like the way the trading post is right now but that trade option would be very helpful. But something I think would be a great add to the trading post would be to add its own page to the old school homepage so we can search items for sellers while offline or busy in game to go to a bank.

Why dont you just model the Trading Post like Zyb but with an ingame ability to request trades. Zyb worked great the only downside was having to use an extra browser tab.

This isn't a complete solution, just a suggestion to IMPROVE the Trading Post.

NO AUTOMATIC TRADING

With every new big update OSRS moves a step closer to RS3. I play OSRS because I like the nostalgia of playing back when RS wasn't just a cakewalk. I like the idea of how you can see other player's offers, and contact them yourself and agree on a price. Automatic trading would just make the game less interactive and damaging to the market because of price manipulators and gold farmers. Keep Old School Runesscape Old school!

As for you kids begging for a grand exchange, go back to your RS3.

Honestly, the Grand Exchange should just be brought back. It was a GREAT update, and I don't see any reason to not implement it. Yes, it makes it easier to control the prices, but I didn't/don't see it causing any major issues in RS3. Allowing the availability to trade with people without needing to get to their world, find them, right click trade, and negotiate a price, brought a lot of friends of mine, who had quit RS3 before the GE, back.

I don't see too much of an issue with Automated trading either, and might just be better off than a full GE. This would make it much more difficult to control prices on certain items. Again, however, if someone DOES do it, it's going to be much more effective than if they try to do the same thing with a full GE. All said person would have to do is buy out all of the available stocks of whichever item he's focused on merchanting. Now there if there isn't anybody online to sell these items, he's controlling the market. With a full GE, stocks are usually too high for any one person to control an item. Not that they can't, but it's much more difficult than buying out all of the "currently available" stocks.

My honest opinion; Just bring back the GE. It improved the "Quality of life" of Runescape drastically.
