TL;DR: Allow players to send trade offers without actually having to be in the same location. Possibly add a market in-game with trade data and forum-like sale offers to facilitate trading. Trades are the same as always, but one doesn't have to seek out the other player physically.
I'm not going to name a particular website, but a commonly used site for facilitating trades is easily found by Googling "2007 Price Guide". The reason it's successful is that it provides
current
sell offers, buy offers, and the average of the two. So, rather than giving a range of prices as per the Grand Exchange, players are given a rough estimate of what an item is worth, just like if one browsed World 1 for a bit.
How can OSRS mimic this functionality?
Imagine a hybrid of the Grand Exchange, a trading forum, and a live trade window all in one:
- Players access
a central market
(doesn't have to be in one location, maybe even a tab in one's inventory) where they can
search items to find data
such as average trade prices and buy/sell offers.
- Players can
post an offer remotely
into the market, which lists the player name, sell offer, and how long ago the offer was made.
- By clicking on a listed offer, a
trade request is sent like normal to the other player
. Only works if the other player is online. The trade plays out like normal, just as in World 301; the only difference is that the players are not standing next to each other.
-
After the trade is complete, the listed offer is automatically removed
or reduced by the quantity traded.
Let me know what you think.
