I fail to see how a company making money is a bad thing?

I mean its not like they are breaking any IRL laws so as long as they don't, they are free to do so however they plz.

A company making money isn't a bad thing when the company tries to make a genuinely good product or service, but a company using scummy tactics that prey on its customers' psyche to rip them off their money is a bad thing
(in Jagex's case making the gameplay fun enough that people don't quit but also boring enough that they're psychologically forced to buy into the MTX, aka "the golden middleway")
. :P

And yea sure, Jagex isn't breaking the law in the current period of time, but just like all the other scummy business practices people have come up with in other industries, the law will catch up to Jagex sooner or later. Just because something isn't against the law now, doesn't mean it's fine to exist, especially when changing regulations takes time. It speaks volumes of Jagex that they concealed information like the ARPPU from the UK parliament, or how they tried to hide Treasure Hunter from them and focused on cosmetic MTX only, trying to imply that people spend much more money on that, when Jagex's very own financial statements have shown that runecoin revenue is practically nothing compared to TH keys and bonds. If Jagex considered its business honest, it wouldn't have to hide those things, as honest businesses can be open about their business and nothing would happen to them. > )

Yet they aren't "preying" on anyones psyche.

Loot boxes and the like exist in all sorts of games and in most nobody seems to care.

Yet they are: Jagex is a business, not a charity. For a business to be able to sell MTX, it has to make them worth buying. If the MTX in a game isn't worth buying, then why would anyone buy them? If they are worth buying, then the base game experience is intentionally designed to be boring enough that people buy them, or else they wouldn't be worth buying.

And as I said, changing regulations takes time; they may exist now, but in the future, they'll either be outright banned or regulated such that it probably won't be worth it for most companies to have them in their games. Belgium already forced even a company as big as EA to ban its loot boxes in their country, and several other countries have began looking into doing the same or taking other action against them. It's a matter of time, not a matter of if something will happen. :P

You know EA makes even more money from Ultimate Team Packs and launched new games with even more loot boxes like Apex Legends since then, right? Who cares about just one country when there are numerous others in the world?

If Belgium has no problem with Jagex, why does it have to care about other countries? :D

I agree wth Blackwing, Jagex in the UK parliament was a joke and just because Jagex 'can' do what they want doesnt mean they should.

Similar to the case that just because people can kill others doesnt mean it is ethical to do so.

Well you always have a choice if you don't like what company is doing.

That is why I'm speaking up on it. I want legislators and/or politicians to see others speaking up so they are aware of the problem and can make the action illegal.

LOL they would try that, although it was originally IVP that started it.
