I also think that the game needs to be available on the Microsoft store, and steam to access a wider audience of potential players; a F2p MMORPG with nearly 2 decades of active development, with a fair business model has the capability to become really popular.

Unpopular opinion here:
I think RuneScape 3 should go F2p, and Jagex should 'double down' on the RunePass idea. By this I mean offering more inspiring rewards, as a result of investing more MTX development time into it, and making the Pass challenges more unique, instead of just gain one million experience points. I also don't think that it is essential for the RunePass to offer significant experience rewards either, as if the cosmetics are awesome - they will sell the RunePass without P2w experience gain.

If the revenue generated from the RunePass is considered 'good', then I think they should tone down the amount of Treasure Hunter promotions massively; I don't consider the base Treasure Hunter experience to be that P2w, as experience is granted to a much more minor degree.

What do you think?

Currently the aggressive monetization combined with membership is really unappealing. going f2p would help that in regards to new player, but would it help the longevity of the game? Also, you can't have both. Runescape going f2p would definitely mean more TH promotions.

Also, "going f2p" in this context means removing the membership subscription and letting everyone access formerly members content, before someone starts trying to argue semantics bullshit again.
Don't forget – RuneScape members get TWO free spins a day instead of the usual one!

I have played Runescape for over 15 years now and honestly I don't care about Treasure Hunter. Some people love it, some people hate it. I fear that it's removal could cause Jagex significant enough financial detriment to need to cut costs, and possibly even close Runescape down.

Sure, some people spend a lot of real money chasing keys, as is their prerogative. I choose not to. Is it at times frustrating to see players with ridiculously high stats or large amounts of in-game wealth that has apparently been paid for rather than played for? Sure, I'm poor and could use that money for things I consider as more worthwhile. I have a lot of free time, though, and I enjoy spending that time playing Runescape. If people spending their real-world money on this game ensures my ability to continue playing this wonderful game, surely it is a good thing.

When you see people crying a river about not getting continuous anti-MTX support from the most players and beg for help in Reddit and such, you know the community is telling you the truth - either they don't care about TH and other MTX, or they know it won't matter at all no matter how many pillows they wet.

This is like Larry, Moe and Curly going to McDonald and trying to order Cabbage Burger Super Value meals but the person taking their orders will just say "Next on line"... and the next on line will say "Big Mac Super Value Meals, super size, add an extra order of fries". :D :D :D

I don't think catering exclusively to windows 10 users will help reduce any of the MTX.

Now that RS3 playerbase is tanking how hard it is to see the root cause of this?

"RuneScape launched all the way back in 2001 and it’s Jagex’s best known title, even after all of this time. Does this put Jagex in a unique position in the industry?" - MCV Magazine

"Yes, for sure.
RuneScape is one of the longest standing MMORPGs, and the fact the community is still growing says a lot for the investment our players have made in the RuneScape universe and the community.
" Jagex's CEO Mr. Phil Mansell

Sorry to disappoint some people, but RS3 is still growing. Perhaps many people love TH and MTX. :D :D :D

From 40k to 24k active players in a couple of years is not "growing"

Rs3 gets 28-29k players a day on weekdays 30k a day on saturdays and 32k a day on sundays. Players per day does not mean those are the only active players. They don't play runescape 8 hours a day. I would say double xp weekends give us more incite on the active rs3 playerbase, which is 60k in peak hours. However as more players get 5.4b xp th will become useless to them, allowing them to quit faster. All those players at 5.4b may not have used to for 5.4b but the fact it becomes useless for them will make less incentive to use th.

Correct that average gamers don't play online games 8 hours a day. For instance, Statista shows in 2017, USA gamers spent way less than an hour a day on video games.

The player online counter on top of the website doesn't show the total game population. Jmod Rowley already addressed it.
