This thread is an assessment of the fansite program and the ongoing problems fansites have faced while being a part of this program. I am an administrator from the “Unofficial” RuneScape Wiki and I have been part of the fansite staff since December 2011. I have always been watching the forum, though I have rarely interacted (not that there is much to interact with). There have been periods of major interaction and support, and periods of minimal interaction and support. We have been in this period of nonexistent communication for several years now. I have grown tired of constantly reaching out only to grasp thin air. I believe many of you share my sentiments, so my question is, is it truly worth staying here?
Interactions with Jagex on this forum are nonexistent. The small number of J-mods assigned to fansite staff have other responsibilities and tend to put us on the back burner, and it has always been that way. I had a thread about giving fansites maps that I religiously bumped for nearly a year before a J-mod commented on it (it might have been over a year, I can’t remember). I have seen others go through the same torment of having unanswered questions or ignored ideas. Recently, it has taken weeks and even months to get a post out of any of them. I have seen many others complain about the amount of time it takes for a J-mod to answer emails as well.
We are no longer sent concept art, and it doesn’t appear that the platinum fansites get exclusive concept art anymore. The monthly fansite conference calls were axed. Attempts at communication, such as the Skype channel, have been lost and forgotten. The dropbox was only used for the Battle of Lumbridge, never to be used again. The relationship between fansites and Jagex is completely one-sided.
So why bother staying here?
