From my point of view most fansites here run on paid hosts
and fallow strict fansite rules in order to maintain a badge,
And , in return we get event promotions as far as i know
which that's the essence of it. As fansite we want to make
a stand in let our members know that jagex approves us and
if we(fansite staff) doubt it how will our members fell that?
Now, that's a hard question . as fansite staff we come to this
forum in hopes to get more knowledge or our events promoted,
and the only thing we find are event promotions which by the
way is quicker to get them promoted trough email. which makes
this forum pointless in that sense.
You(jagex) are forgetting one crucial point we run a website
as well not just a community in general.

Ideas to Fix all of this.

.1 - Add a jmod that does website maintenance to teach us
how to pull certain data from the website without resorting to
html scrapping for example.

.2 - pin the api links and whatnot from the runescape official wiki
to one topic. so we dont have to spend hours to find them ourselfs

example : services.runescape.com/m=avatar-rs/ USERNAME /ownclan.png
if you change the username to a runescape user it displays his/hers
clan flag.

.3 - Interactive chat, as posted before skye is a good option
and has the ability of creating groups with roles for users.
but if we cant reach that an official in-game fansite FC would
do and only jmods and staff members would be able to join.

.4 - I had the idea of an in-game item that could be only earned
trough official runescape events and fansite events every now and then.
this not only will bring more people to jagex events will bring more
active people to us as well. this would work by jagex starting
by making the said item and giving us Diango codes for it so that
we can give them away on events and so as jagex could.

my idea for this item would be a pet owl holding a crown.
why? because jagex likes to do stuff based on history so here it is
the owl symbolizes sacred to the Greek goddess of learning and
fansites are knowledge. the crown on the owl would mean glory
opon inspecting the ownl it could say something related to the
fansite it was earned from.
im sure that if this gets either to mod mark or mod osbone's eyes
it will be made.

that's all my suggestions.i hope i made some clear points to you all

p.s: this is not a april fools joke.

I think at the moment something really important is Jagex interaction with us. Mod Infinity, if I recall correctly, will be stopping by certain Clan Chats/FCs and chat a little bit? That's always good because then our users can clearly see the support Jagex gives.

Also, I think giving us exclusive information and such to share is always good so that way people want to return to our fansites and become more involved in the community. Getting an active community in a niche that is already containing larger fansites is hard sometimes so a push here and there from Jagex would definitely be welcome.

Hi,

I'm not sure what each individual site gets out of the program as the only site that I see promoted almost on a bi-weekly basis is RuneZone. I don't mind that. At this point, there no longer seems to be a difference between the different tiers of sites outside of sticking a JPG badge on a random segment of a site.

Something that many users of the RuneScape Wiki want to know is what would happen should we left the program, should it happen we arrive at that conclusion. I know during the time Mod Lods was curator, it definitely felt that way.

Alongside the restarting of the podcasts, it appears the only site getting anything the others do not on a bi-weekly basis is RuneZone. Eventually the product ends up on Podbean for others to link to, but I'd like to see other fansites get something the day before since this exists at the very least with podcasts. Does it have to be the RSW? No, but I'd like to see something change.

As for the Skype calls, the only one that I can remember that had significant value was when Mod Jane (and maybe Vince) talked with Mod Mark with us. The calls in general were a hassle for everyone. You'd either run into Skype going bonkers over having too many on the call and the audio quality deteriorating, more than 25 people were attempting to be on the call, or the opposite with only Jagex and less than seven others.

I figured it was best when Mod Mike suggested we use the Teamspeak server that the Audio Team utilized at some point during his time at Jagex. This would have been superior to the calls at that point in time, but as they are discontinued, the point is now mute.

As for the site, RuneScape Wiki, it's an odd relationship only due to the Jagex Wiki. I know it was made clear back in July and at least once by Mod Pips during RuneFest. However, it still feels odd knowing that it has been said by curators now and gone that you can't trust a silver site. Odd when the Wiki is all I hear about on forums and in-game.

Sincerely,
Ryan M

@Mexk - Are you suggesting an alternative website/system for fansites to come together and get support/discussion? Or just something on the RsoF?

Simply putting this forum to actual use - cooperate and interact more in-between using the already existing platform we have in shape of these forums. I mean, could be all from tips on database-building, guides, events, livestreams, prizes.. etc. :) .

I'm with Runeaid here. I've had great response times with Infinity in email. And it's also worth mentioning that just because there's no reply, doesn't mean it hasn't been looked at.

However, overall, I would argue that it would be nice to see some more involvement and this forum develop a little bit more.

+1 here as well.

Perhaps we as fansite leaders could organize more things like this? Competitions across fansites or something with a large pool of prizes? We could also offer up resources and guides on things for others. But this falls more on us rather than the Jmods.

Also, I don't really see a reason to leave the program at the momeny. There's always room for improvement and you don't gain too much by leaving, if I am not mistaking?

Hey everyone, let me start of with a saying:
Feedback is a gift
.

Attitude & approach: First of the problems we are facing here is the attitude and approach towards fansite staff. Why is Jagex so passive here? Why don't you Lead the fansites? I am sure that 9 of 10 fansites here would be happy to receive some feedback from you and simple directions, what to focus on. For example "If you guys from XXX fansite could create more guides for newcomers that would be awesome! / Try more hosting events... / Go with... " Currently the situations is that you are there, and we can come up to you if there is something concerning us you will share it, maybe look at it and if it's comfortable for you give some statement on it. Why? Be pro-active. You guys need to understand that every single fansite means 3-30 people working for you . If it's english or language fansites, without them Jagex would face some real trouble. We create guides, host events, develop tools, make people enjoy the game, and keep them active. I can't already count how many times I've heard a player thankinng us, stating that without our existance he would have already left the game. That's a fact. Act, don't be passive. Take the lead!

Virtual meetings & calls: Every single month Jagex representative should have 1 on 1 meeting with fansite manager. Focus on individual problems, share new information, resovle issues. 10-30 mins, depending on the needs of each side. Every month there should be a big meeting for all fansite staff with multiple Jagex employees . Share new informations, give out some behind the scenes info, do some planning, cooperate. 30-60 mins. What form this should take? Doesn't matter... Skype, Teamspeak, any other VoIP. Or you can give us tollfree number for a call, I attend work teleconference meetings from home on regular basis... So where's the trouble?
