Every time the devs discuss the M/S rework, I can't help but think about how the new update ignores the lore of Dragon and Dragon smithing For most of the game, we see in many quests that the Dragonkin are supposedly amazing master smiths, and the requirement to even repair dragon gear matched this lore. In addition, Dragon smithing has long been present as this amazing, nigh inaccessible craft of the Kin. Due to the fact that now players can smith Dragon with lower smithing, and without any kind of difficult quest requirement, it pretty much gives a big finger to the lore of Dragon smithing.

I understand that they want the requirements for making gear to match the requirements for using them, but as a diehard lorehound I only care about the story. So if they really must change the skill, I want them to change all the talk of Dragon in quests to something new, to preserve the rapport of these amazing smiths

What is everyone's thoughts?

The works of the past are bound to be surpassed sooner or later. The "legendary" difficulty is all relative, it's also entirely possible that necronium, invictium, and aetherium are all both stronger AND easier to work with.

Wasn't it gonna be that we would be smithing Orikalkum rather than Dragon?
Orikalkum is weaker than Dragon without the Dragonkins superior ways of smithing.

You could say that, but then why would Dragon be so sought after? So rare? So legendary? Even assuming that they retcon all of that saying "Ah, we just discovered these, and they beat the snot out of dragon, pft." (Which would be terrible writing) they would need some reason why Dragon had been so sought after

Orichalcum is the ore, and you mix it with Dragons blood (high tier coal) to get dragon bars. They constantly say dragon smithing. They need to raise the stats of dragon and/or tier to keep the lore consistent. Or have it so the Dragonkin also make those high tiers of metal

Sometimes gameplay is just more important than narrative. Many would argue it's always more important.

Narratively, there's no reason we can't discover new information about better smithing methods than what we've heard about the dragonkin.

Dragon is so sought after because it has both the mystique of being an ancient artifact and being an uncommon metal. It's entirely possible that the ways to smith the stronger metals have been lost to the ages, remembered only by the gods or other long-lived beings.

It's like with the introduction of the Runespan and the EoC reducing the cost in runes for magic. The Runespan explained how they'd save magic and the other was explained as a new advance is combat magic that reduced the runes required drastically. Though the Runespan could be considered Magic's Industrial Revolution. If I was going to come up with an explanation for why the sudden advance in cpabilities, then build off what has come before. The Runespan opened the doors for new advances and tool development. Never forget Divination and Invention.

While Guthix Death introduce the beginning of the 6th age, I would say the Runespan marked the end of the 5th Age and probably its biggest accomplishment. So those metals that were once beyond the ken of man, would then be well within their scope.

The last 5 years in Gielinor time has see some huge advances in Tech and capapbility.
The purpose of adventure is to shine light into dark places,
Poke monsters with a sharp stick, Then steal anything that isn't nailed down!
